"Krampus: The Christmas Devil" (2013)

A cop who narrowly escaped the clutches of the Yuletide demon 30 years ago when he was a kid must prepare to face the creature again when local children begin disappearing.

...do NOT confuse this movie with the unrelated and far superior "Krampus" flick I reviewed above. This one is a zero budget, shot on video amateur-night piece of sh*t that may be the worst movie I've seen all year.

AVOID.

HA that is too funny as I was going to mention this in my retort to the 2015 review.

This one does take the angle of Santa and the Krampus being evil and perverted, there is some nudity and implied naughty behavior from Santa...

Yea but even the perversion/nudity angle wasn't enough to make it watchable! :rofl2:

There have been a shit-ton of low budget Krampus movies made over the past few years (including a sequel to the 2013 turd I just reviewed above, which I will be sure to avoid like the plague!) ... he also figures in a "Creepshow" style anthology flick that's on Netflix right now called "A Christmas Horror Story," which I'm prob gonna check out next... it's got William Shatner in it, how can I pass that up? :D

"Sharkansas Women's Prison Massacre"

A group of escapees from an Arkansas women's prison work program try to elude pursuit by hiding out deep in a swamp. Unfortunately, the pistol packin' gals soon learn that the swamp waters are infested by monstrous prehistoric sharks, freed from deep underground by natural-gas "fracking." Traci Lords (aging gracefully) is a federal marshal on their trail. I bet you can pretty much write the rest yourself.

As you might expect, this all-too-obvious "Sharknado" variant from cheapo jiggle-exploitation kingpin Jim "I Never Saw Cleavage I Didn't Like" Wynorski is dumb as a box of rocks, but the eye candy is outstanding and the well-endowed cast resists the urge to camp it up. Playing it straight, makes the whole thing funnier.

Keeping with the "shark" theme...

"Sharknado: Feeding Frenzy" (2015)

A documentary that traces the history of the "Sharknado" film series from its humble beginnings as a ridiculous script that nobody wanted to touch, to the full-blown star studded pop culture and social media phenomenon that it's become today. Fans of the series will get a kick out of all the behind the scenes scoop but if you're not already down with the 'nado there's nothing here that will change your mind.

Finding Dory (2016) - damn this was irritating...I can see little kids liking it though...

Yuuup! My friends loved it. I thought it was boring, and, as you said, irritating.

With the young'ins tonight:

"The Angry Birds Movie" (2016)

On an island populated by flightless, clueless, perpetually perky birds, one red misfit with a bad temper stands out from the rest...until they're invaded by a horde of egg-stealing hillbilly pigs, and Red's anger management issues suddenly make him an asset.

Based (of course) on the mega-hit game franchise, this flick is beautifully animated, action packed, frequently funny and way better than I expected.

"A Christmas Horror Story" (2015)

This nifty little anthology flick features four tales of Yuletide terror - film students investigate a Christmas eve murder, trespassers bring home something evil along with their fresh cut Christmas tree, a dysfunctional family meets Krampus, and a buffed out, badass Santa deals with a zombie outbreak amongst his elves. Added bonus: William Shatner ties it all together as a drunken radio DJ (in an ugly Christmas sweater!) who serves as host/narrator.

I thoroughly enjoyed this - the production values were better than I expected for a straight to DVD flick, it's got lotsa cool/spooky/wintry atmosphere and a way bigger mean streak than "Krampus." Highly recommended!

"Home Alone" (1990)

Inadvertently left behind when his family heads off on a holiday trip to Paris, 8 year old Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) must defend his home from a pair of bumbling burglars (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern) in John Hughes and Chris Columbus' enduring holiday classic. I hadn't seen this one in quite a few years and my 9 year old had never seen it before, we both laughed all the way through it.

"Violent Naples" (1976)

Umberto "Nightmare City" Lenzi directed this Italian "Dirty Harry" wanna-be about a tough police inspector who gets transferred to Naples to help put an end to the city's organized crime problem. Yup, that's the whole plot. In other words, a bunch of guys with rad '70s mustaches and wide lapels get into fistfights, car chases and gun battles for 90 minutes. Poorly dubbed but strangely entertaining action nonsense.

Well, it finally happened. I watched a movie again! And then another one... Been a long time, and here's my thoughts;

The Shallows ; loved the location and the surfing cinematics, but this was flawed on so many levels it was hard to enjoy at all. Obviously the surfing scenes were not shot at the beach in the movie... which happens, but how obvious could they make it?! It was ridiculous. And she catches (a pretty sizeable) wave, gets bumped off onto a rock and then a wave doesn't come for the next two days? Really? You serious? You wrote this movie and neglected to see that issue? It was so stupid on so many levels, but hey, I loved the surf scenes, the scenery, and this scenery was well pleasant too:

Paper Towns; really thought I'd love this one, but jeez it was poor. Just "gay" for lack of a better word. Really pouncy storyline, but the thing that killed this so hard for me was how ugly his love interest was. I found her to be hideous. If she was a stunner, I could have worked with this movie, but she was so ugly it really turned me off. On the flipside, her friend was a proper looker. But it was just a really weak, tame storyline with poor characters.

In case you haven't seen the movie, this is what I was dealing with. This is the hideous "lead" character:

But on the flipside, this was her friend, who was probably in more of the movie;

"Religulous" (2008)

Comedian, commentator, and avowed skeptic Bill Maher travels the globe to investigate the world's major religions, hoping to unravel the mystery of why Humanity can't all just can't get along. In a nutshell, the message of "Religulous" is pretty much "All religions are completely insane!" That might piss some viewers off, but if you've ever experienced the slightest bit of doubt about religion, you may find this snarky pseudo-documentary flick enlightening, hilarious, and possibly a bit frightening (Bill interviews a couple of seriously weird/scary mofo's in this thing!). This movie will spark conversation, no matter what side of the religious fence you fall on.

Yeah, used to be that if you had no religion you kept that to yourself because saying so wasn't the thing to do.

Nowadays if you're religious, you're the one who keeps it quiet, because people are a lot more happy to debate the issue (and religion's argument pretty much starts and ends with the word "faith")

I find it extraordinary that we live in a Christian society and abide by it's 'laws' to some degree (here in Australia)

I've seen parliament sitting and witnesses the lord's prayer being recited at the start of the day.

I used to wonder that if one day there was a definitive answer that disproved a higher power how the world would react.

ie: would many people who were devout followers of a god suddenly not be able to cope with life, having never considered that there was nothing after life?

Would the suicide rate jump? Would 'sin' become more prevalent?

Best snippet I've seen on religion is below...
