  19. Slam Alley- Punk Polluted Zoo
  20. Maxx Exxplosion- Forever

Nice list, didn't expect for you to have so much love for the new Crashdiet. Sure it's good but thought it's out of top 20

Never heard of Madman's Lullaby and The Jokers, will check em out

The songs are so strong on Playground that I am able to overlook the rough production. I just find myself continually spinning this one. Great album IMO.

Production isn't as bad as people make it out to be, BUT not as good as it should/could have been. I also like it, even with the not so "perfect"production. In my top 15

Actually they purposefully went this production. Unbelievably. Thought a rougher sound would better suit their image. What a flawed plan.

I don't know why a band would purposely want their disc to sound terrible. It was "rough" alright!

I get the 'want-to-sound-raw' idea but they didn't expect that most people didn't favor it. Maybe the criticism will make them think twice and went back to the 'Generation Wild' style production in the next album.

One would hope. You can say the same for Gotthard. I am hoping for better results on their 2nd disc with Maeder.

What worries me is that when u go on their facebook page most of the kids are raving about it. I fear its only us select few who crave for the polished sound of Generation Wild. We can but hope

That Santa Cruz disc is just Godly...I put that one up there with Crashdiet's Rest In Sleez.

:omg:

Incredible that I find the songs so poor, while others are creaming themselves over them! Opinions will always differ, I just find this one really surprising.

  • 2 weeks later...

Trying to post my list but looks like all internet options on my computer are stuffed. :( How frustrating... I have no editing options or quick reply options available/working. Anyone know why that'd be?

Okay kids, here it is. The most complete and annoying list you'll see for 2013. I figured I could post a top 20 and be nice and popular, but a few kids commented last year that my long annoying list was a cool reference for stuff they may have missed, so here it is, unedited and unattractive. 2013 as I saw it:

2013 in Summary:
An interesting year in music. Throughout the whole year I felt that it wasn't quite measuring up to recent years, and I still kind of feel that way, despite some really strong releases and really great tunes. The disappointment of the year was probably Waltham not releasing their new album as promised, but I couldn't let those 4 gems they released via their website pass unnoticed, so I kind of created my own EP to house them. On EPs, the side project from Hit The Lights vocalist, Thief Club was a brilliant surprise for me, as was another solid offering from Simple Plan, all at the end of 2013. Tigertailz also offered a very exciting return sound, and The Veer Union continued a downward spiral into averageness, as sadly, did Lansdowne.
For the albums, I heard the Vega disc in 2012 and sadly it never really got threatened at all in 2013, imo, of course. Surprised to see it rated so poorly for everyone else, because as far as I'm concerned, most the songs on this were untouchable in 2013, despite the few weaker songs around it. I will always favour an album with 7 killer tunes and 3 good songs, compared to 10/10 good songs. And the highlights on Vega, imo, are immense.
Find Me and Faith Circus were nice unexpected surprises, whilst WET, 7th Heaven, Wild Rose, Reckless Love, Place Vendome, Adriangale, Pretty Maids, Bai Bang and Hardcore Superstar all performed well, as expected.
Surprise of the year has to go to Eden's Curse, releasing - by far, imo - their best CD to date, with a much better new vocalist.
Amaze Me were a wonderful band to see back amongst it, but the disc could have been better. And Crashdiet were basically a disaster, sadly, and unexpectedly. Daughtry also disappointed and a lot of the modern rock bands seemed to offer up released which did not match the quality of old.
Stand outs in modern rock were Kids In Glass Houses, releasing a ridiculously catchy disc not dissimilar to their excellent 'Dirt' album a few years ago, and the new A Day To Remember disc offered nothing but pure class, much more accessible now due to less screaming. Mest were an amazing surprise return package, and Escape The Fate also offered up arguably their best album so far. Sleeping With Sirens also offered up a winner.
Overall, I felt 2013 offered up a lot of very good discs, but a too few real stand outs. And to add to that, there were also a hell of a lot of 70%-ish discs, which failed to really just take off. All in all, a good year with a lot of good music to take away from it, but probably not on par with recent years.

Yeah, Glen, The Bastards CD was terrible, as was that one from the Vixen lass.

And I just want to state, that sadly, everything I listen to, I do honestly try out believing it could be a good one. Hence why I did not listen to anything in the above list ; sorry, nyoilers, I don't think any of them would be my thang. But yeah, I don't listen to stuff I know I'll hate, so it is a bit of a downer when stuff I have faith in ends up being utterly terrible, like Bastards and Vixen lass.

I did want to add in my comments above a little spiel about Tonight Alive. Aussie female fronted rock band which I discovered this year when I went to see the Warped tour. Very, very good band, kind of like early Paramore, when they were still good. Much, much more "rockier" than current Paramore. But there's some really great tunes, especially on the start of that disc. Killer, in fact. I really recommend people giving that one a go.

Tonight Alive, and The Amity Affliction were the revelations of the Warped tour. Both Aussie bands. The Amity Affliction are screamo-heavy, but some amazingly melodic choruses to lighten the load. Didn't release anything in 2013, but the 2012 album is a gem, if you like the heavy screamo stuff with killer melodic choruses.

OK, its time to make some minor adjustments (& well deserved) to my 2013 best of list

The main shifter is Degreed taking its well earned spot in the top 10. Ive been listening to this a lot over the last weeks and its a pretty special album chock full of quality tunes.

Find Me I had to move up one spot - excellent album which Im coming back to more than the WET album.

Stryper Im afraid is on the decline.........I do really like this album, but the diction is killing me (I just cant hear half the lyrics!) and the production is tinny I find...........compared to say Find Me which is sonically awesome imo.

well, here you go -

1. Pretty Maids - Motherland

2. De La Cruz - Street Level

3. Find Me - Wings Of Love

4. WET - Rise Up

5. Degreed - We Don't Belong

6. Adriangale - Suckerpunch!

7. Edens Curse - Symphony of Sin

8. Heavens Basement - Filthy Empire
9. Vega - What The Hell

10. Hardcore Superstar - C'Mon Take On Me

11. Reckless Love - Spirit

12. Stryper - No More Hell To Pay

13. Lavalle - Dear Sanity

14. Rage of Angels - s/t

15. James Labrie - Impermanent Resonance

16. Tainted Nation - FEAR

17. Santa Cruz - Screamin For Adrenaline

18. The Theander Expression - Strange Nostalgia

19. Faith Circus - Turn Up The Band

20. Place Vendome - Thunder In The Distance.
