21 essential albums

Recommended Posts

Check it out. I own a total of 2. I'm willing to bet that will be a high number for this board.

I have 1 song off the Miranda Lambert album. That's it. Makes you realize that one person's idea of "essential" is another person's idea of "excrement."

You can mark me down as owning ZERO of those.

Do I dare ask which two are in your collection..?

Don't own a single one of 'em, although I will admit to SERIOUSLY considering picking up 21 by Adele.

Everything I've heard off of it has been excellent IMO....

I have the O Brother Where Out Thou soundtrack...I think.

Man Of Constant Sorrow is a trip of a song...maybe I just have the mp3. No matter, I'd still like to take the writer of this list and bounce his head off my knee a few times. Not because it does not contain our genre of music but because he or she had the gall to think they could write an all encompassing list covering all genres, keep it to 21 because they are so witty (the 21st century, oh what genius)and then include stuff like Lil Wayne, MIA, etc? Who the f*ck are those artists?

Those are actually the two I thought you might own. If I had to own two of them I would probably pick those also. I'm proud of you though for not blaming the wife for owning those. Are you sure SHE actually owns the Justin Timberlake CD though?

Slightly embarrassed to admit I own 2 of these, 'Stankonia' and 'Marshall Mathers'. I went through a foolish (but mercifully brief) hip hop phase, from which about 10 albums remain. Very rarely listen to them any more, but they are pretty good in their genre. I'd certainly much rather listen to them than the White feckin' Stripes!

It's hardly a balanced list though. Most of it is hip hop, female solo artists or country-type stuff. What happened to the rock?

BTW, by posting this link, you made me look at a picture of Amy Winehouse. :puke:

What a festering pile of mainstream CRAP!!!!!!!! Note to the idiot who compiled this moronic list: Justin Timberlake and his snot-clogged, nasal whimpering is not even in the same ballpark as anything "essential". Anyone buying into these stupid lists are merely brain-dead disciples of mainstream media and the suits and ties that promote and publicize these aimed-at-the-lowest-common-denominator performers. Radio is a wasteland of force-fed garbage, foisted upon the public to rake in as many bucks as possible through the gullibility of those unable or unwilling to make up their own mind. The concept is to tell you what you MUST listen to; the foolish buy into it; the intelligent see through the charade and seek out things the media doesn't ram down everyone's throat. If contrived, manufactured pop floats your boat, that's your business; but no record company executive or radio programmer is going to tell me what I should or shouldn't listen to. To base your decision regarding music upon their agenda only makes you a sheep. Mainstream media is a boil upon the ass of humanity.

I like lists and couldn't be bothered to look through all that, but I'd assume I don't own any. I have no ill feelings towards Taylor Swift, though, and find her songs harmless on the radio.

I made it all the way through 2 albums on the list before I realized I was wasting my time and nothing would probably be on there that I would own or want to own. I do have the Man Of Constant Sorrow song from the O Brother soundtrack on mp3 along with several Taylor swift songs from her new album, she's ok in my book.

  • 2024 HH Donation Drive

Please support Heavy Harmonies! The donations goal is the out-of-pocket expenses to run the main site and this board for calendar year 2024.

    • Sorry my donation is small, but you know my circumstances Done It will be under name Andrew Sharp
    • Well... I mean... it's true.   Time once again to nag/beg/plead/insult (wait, what?) to help out covering Heavy Harmonies' expenses. Costs for the site run roughly US$195 a month, roughly the same as last several years.  So when I say "costs", what do I mean? It's the out-of-pocket expenses to keep Heavy Harmonies running: server lease, bandwidth, hosting support, and the subscription for this forum software, domain registration. The 2023 drive did pretty well, reaching 83% of goal of covering the annual costs. Let's see if we can meet, or better yet, beat that goal! The donation drive will run through Halloween, October 31.   Anyone who makes a single donation of $20 or more and has a board username will be added to the group "2024 Donors". This gets you the following benefits: A nice shiny icon in your profile showing that you are an HH Donor for 2024:  An increase in the size of your PM storage from 200 to 500 messages An increase in image attachment/upload storage from 20MB to 50MB Exempt from the search flood control (normally if you try and do a search more than every 10 seconds, you get an annoying little "please wait" message) No time limit on editing your own posts! This will especially be useful for those with trade/sale lists as you'll be able to edit them rather than posting revised versions. A warm fuzzy feeling inside that you are helping support Heavy Harmonies! If you donate $50 during the drive, either as a single donation or across multiple donations, you will be added to the group "2024 Gold Donors". This gets you the following in addition to the above: A bigger, shiny badge:  All your posts will be highlighted, because if you show this much dedication to HH, what you have to say is obviously more more important! (just kidding, but your posts will be accentuated). The ability to create a forum "signature" that will be added to all of your posts. If you donate using buttons on the main site, please put your board username in the notes section, and if you donate from here on the forum, please PM me the email address that you sent the donation from! Otherwise I have no way to tie your donation to your membership here on the board. If you are currently in the 2023 donor groups but don't wish to donate this year (or can't), at the beginning of the donation drive, your group membership features will revert to the regular non-donator membership group. Membership in the 2024 Donors group will last until the beginning of next year's donation drive, at which point you can donate again to remain in the Donors group with the same benefits, or revert back to your current member group. PayPal donation buttons are found at the top of all the pages on the main site and here on the forum on the right side at the top, or if you'd prefer to send a money order, check, or cash (not recommended, but I know some people prefer to do so), you can make payable to Dan Harding and send to: Heavy Harmonies P.O. Box 17021 Urbana, IL 61803 USA If you can't give $20, give $10... if you can't give $10, give $5... it's just once a year. (And if you happen to be fortunate enough to be earning gobs of money, please feel free to give bunches! I'm not opposed to having a sugar daddy... or seven.) As always, your support is greatly appreciated! -Dan
