Full track...while it's still up

Reminds me of Dr. Feelgood.

Something tells me, after hearing this one, that the lyrics while still very crude and rude, might actually be a little more subtle and not so obvious in your face as on the debut.

Even if the band is a comedy act, they still have one of the greatest vocalists and guitarists on the scene. KILLER!!!

From where I'm sitting they've already done that, and it sounds like they'll do it again.

New track sounds killer - man, what a vibe, and what a sound. Backed on the 'Dr Feelgood' comments. And if you're still offended by lyrics that tame... wowser. Motley Crue and Danger Danger recorded stuff as "crude" back in 1989 and 1991 ('She goes down' or 'Horny SOB' for example).

I know I've said it a billion times, but I really just think people need to toughen up when it comes to these guys and just submit to how awesome they are.

see all the boring gits over at Melrock.com are getting on their high horses again about this not being funny / joke wearing thin / this song being shite / etc etc.

Yeah whatever.

Based just on the 2 songs ive heard so far Id take SP over virtually 95% of releases so far this year!

& this has been a pretty damned good year.

I know I'm a broken record on these guys, but I just don't understand when and how so many guys turned into skirt-wearers precisely at the time these guys hit the scene. Whether or not they're a little more blatant than bands in the past, this kind of subject matter has always been a huge part of the music we love without people weeping into their hankies about it. But what do you do? Just roll with it, I guess. I agree that this sounds as exciting to me as anything else the year has already produced, which is some great stuff.

Its like the constant complaints that the lyrics are obvious as well. Well if that is a reason to slate them, then slate 90% of the rock, glam and metal scene, cause lyrically most songs are unoriginal and obvious, and you know exactly what words they are going to rhyme the words rock, love and hell with etc.

Its fucking rock music, just a blown up version of what we all love, and maybe thats what some people dont like. They dont like the fact that what Steel Panther is doing is exposing how smutty so many rock lyrics are.

Like the samples from this one, good, fun rock 'n' roll tunes. There's no doubt that these guys are funny as well as talented. Only slight negative is that I don't think any of their songs would ever be a favourite that I'd want to play again and again. Good for a laugh, but maybe not a keeper is how I'd probably see an album by them. Still look forward to hearing more though.

Their lyrics are not smutty, they're juvenile/teenage-porn nonsense that is funny once and embarrassing afterwards. Reckless Love etc might follow the 80's cheese, but they try and keep it subtle enough so the quality music does the talking. SP don't keep it subtle, and so their (otherwise pretty good) music gets lost in the smutty and mostly pathetic jokes. Sure it's fun on first listen, but they are not a band to be taken seriously as a top-act nor one that makes albums with any longevity at all. A novelty band.

Oh God, here we go again! I thought yesterday you & Jez advised me in no uncertain terms that this whole argument was wearing a bit thin ??!

Yeah but you need to tell Geoff that as he can't help himself! Let's be honest, we'll never agree so we should probably let it rest. One thing I will say, I will give their new disc a chance. I always do, and always will do. I never liked stuff like Hinder but their latest disc changed my mind, so I'm always prepared to give bands a chance. And some of those SP titles are pretty funny...

In your opinion. My opinion, and a lot of other peoples opinions differ vastly.

I couldnt give two shits about how "mature" the lyrics are, all I want to be is entertained, and quite frankly I wouldnt bother with 90% of the music thats raved about on here because when I listen to it, its the same old dull cliched stuff that I have heard for years, and the hooks are just nowhere near as evident.

The point I was making, which you seem to have missed, is that at least one argument on here has been that their lyrics are predictable, and what I was saying is that most of the bands that we all listen to are predictable.

Who really cares if the lyrics are predictable if you enjoy the song? If you dont enjoy the song, dont listen to it ... simple.

But the song is more than just the tune, it's about the lyrics too. Sometimes a tune may not do much for you but it could have great/personal lyrics, or vice-versa. I don't care about predictability, and I enjoy the music SP make. In fact for a night of entertainment then there's little better than their shows. My point is there is zero longevity in it, and the songs are so full of mostly pathetic juvenile jokes that they wear thin after one gig/spin (unless you have amnesia) and after a while it's just cringeworthy. Most 80's bands wrote garbage lyrics about the same thing, but it was less overt so as not to detract from their music or playing.

Ya know what, I listen to a lot of christian rock bands and am a confirmed atheist, but ya know what, as much as I think the lyrics are shit, I dont see why I should deprive myself of some great songs.

With Steel Panther, I love the lyrics, I love the music and I love the shows. I dont see them as any cringeworthy, but then again I grew up on humour like The Young Ones and later Bottom, so lyrically they appeal to that side of me.

At the end of the day, while they may very well musically be a hair metal band, they are no different to someone like Weird Al Yankovic. He may record songs by the likes of Nirvana, Joan Jett and Michael Jackson etc, but his genre is humour. Just as Spinal Tap, Bad News and Skrapp Mettle were humour. And just like comedy shows and films, there are different types of humour. Some people for instance love Celebrity Juice, and others find it to be nothing but filth. Some people love Red Dwarf, other people just dont get it.
