I had this song playing while my wife was in the room. I was laughing so hard I couldn't even talk. She, on the other hand, did not find it very amusing.

A lot of good songs on Balls Out, I love the sound and style 100%. BUT, the lyrics SUCK!!! I don't mind 1 or 2 songs on a cd with sexual overtones but this is stupid. This band could be SO good just the way they play, just write better lyrics! Now don't get me wrong, I will still listen to this because the music itself and the melodies are so good.

Lyrics aside (as this will always be a discussion point) a lot of bands could learn a thing or two from this band about how to write an awesome song.....check out 'Let Me Cum In' for example....the whole thing sounds awesome.....verses, chorus, solo.

 That is so wrong, and I need it. Would also love to know how that one will be available. Sounds like a killer tune.

Enjoying this after one spin, and although most seem to disagree i think this is equally if not better than the debut...some really catchy tunes. As for the lyrics..either you love or hate it, I'm kind of in the middle...it's entertaining and funny but sometimes you just think of how good this band could be if they did a "serious" album lyrically. Would be cool to hear someday but i guess this is their thing...

Not sure why people keep bitchin about the lyrics. Take it or leave it, don't harp on it. These guys were doing this, like it or not, for 10+ years as a live act to entertain those who loved the 80s cheese. I for one would prefer to see them than a bunch of old, stiff, boring dudes playing covers.

Now that they are a recording artst also why would that change?

'Cause they're a bunch of pussies. ;)

I kid.

Or do I?

I've tried to distance myself from this bored argument (and have succeeded until today, just because I have a few minutes) because the only logical and sensible comments were coming from the people who don't have any issue with the lyrics. The negative comments are contradictory (who are these great lyricists that Steel Panther are meant to be writing songs like??) and everyone who does says they should not be so rude and change their lyrics is saying - just as loudly in silence - that they wish Steel Panther were like everyone else, all 10 billion other bands in the world. They're saying they wish Steel Panther wrote generic lyrics about love and girls and rock and fighting for your dreams, or Jesus or whatever all the other bands sing about. Funny, I thought that's what we already had from 99% of the other releases in 2011, and 2010, and 2009... and so on. Why is it such a crime for one band to do something different?

Hopefully these are my final words on the subject; but I just hope the skirt wearers one day accept that these guys are doing what they do and they're doing it very successfully, plus they seem to be thoroughly enjoying themselves. On what planet does it make sense for them to change into exactly what everyone else is doing, thus becoming a bored and generic face in the crowd before fading into obscurity?

As I say, the arguments against what these guys are doing are just plain and simply silly, not well thought out and entirely illogical. :)

Rant ended.

The only track which doesn't cut it for me' so far is the lead Supersonic Sex Machine - although musically you can't fault it - it's just that as soon as Tiger Woods starts it's so much better & more in the vein of the debut. From Tomorrow Night this matches the debut IMO - all the second half songs are awesome.

Well put mate, can't disagree. As I'm sure has been debated before, this about is more than just lyrics, some people don't like the fact that SP are taking the piss out of eighties hair metal. Surely there is no question about that - you only have to watch the live performances to see that they are parodying the hair metal scene (and doing it well, with humorous results). I presume the band does like this music though, to be so good at playing it...?

As you say a bit of variety is a good thing, I'm all for it, so fair play to SP. Plus they are f**kin' funny.

The only complaint I've got is that if I get hold of one of their CDs, I can't play it in the car or leave it lying around the house as I can't risk the kids hearing/seeing it. Right, that's it, I'm joining the PMRC!

I agree, Hopefully those were your last words on the subject! lol! I don't really have a problem with them being different, as I stated I like them and will continue to listen to them"mainly because of the music". All I meant out of it is that I'm 42 and have 2 little kids in the house and sometimes more, as well as family and friends over and ALWAYS have music playing in the background and don't want or need them hearing COCK, FUCK ,PUSSY or what have you that is all.

One more thing to add! Your comment about us being PUSSIES, well that would be a good song theme for their next cd, YOU CAN CALL ME A PUSSY, CAUSE I AM WHAT I EAT!!!

But is it any different to films? I mean, I am sure you dont only watch PG rated films all the time.

While the likes of Stryper, Journey and Bon Jovi etc are there for peoples PG needs, everyone needs their 18 rated bands for their own guilty pleasure moments.

Yes, but music can be played anywhere anytime. my rated R movies are only played at night after the kids go to bed on lower volume. I like my music "not cranked " but at a good volume! I am also one for singing out loud, I use to sing in bands when I was younger so I love to sing along all the time ' so I have to watch myself lol!

I'm not going to get into anymore discussions about the lyrics, as I have made my points known before and will stick by them. What I will say though is that after 3 spins so far,(yes I did buy it to give it a fair chance) I don't think 'Balls Out' is anywhere near as good songwise/musically as the debut. It's all very well played etc as before, but I'm not hearing the huge hooks some others seem to be hearing.

    • I posed him that exact question on his discord page as to what his future plans are.... He said he plans to relax for a bit, do his You Tube thing, keep writing new music and then will decide how to release that music.  He said as of now he's thinking he'll either do a solo thing or form his own band.  He didn't say this but I'd sort of envision a Daughtry type "band" where he kind of puts a band behind his name. So essentially, I think you're right on with his plans.  Ultimately, I think like you say, the control is a big part of it.  I think he wants to be able to operate on his own schedule to maintain his health and family obligations. It'll be interesting to see what sound the new material takes on.  It would seem logical to think it would be rock/melodic rock of some sort since that's really the type of music he's built his following with but he certainly has shown he can dabble anywhere from AOR to metal.
    • Glad I got to see them with Erik in front. All the best to him, definitely looking forward to his future outings when he is fully recovered. Would be cool to see him form his own band, where he could take control, and play around in different genres, from full on metal, to soothing AOR, the guy is so versatile.
    • Remedy - Crying Heart. One I've just seen thanks to the Iridium channel.  From the upcoming album. It's a Killer.
    • Let's not forget Benny Hill. What a Magnificent show that was.
    • Yeah... I dunno about that. It would be too cringe. Who knows? If I'm high enough, I might submit a video.
    • Yep great track and if you fancy being in the video for "The Feeling" nows your chance.
    • I'm proud to say that I had this single when I was a mere 8 years old. KISS were big down here then. Norman Gunston is Iconic for Aussies of my vintage.  The face ln the bottom left says it all. Hilarious.
    • All in all, this is a great story. Erik played a brilliant, well received, albeit short cameo with one of our favourite bands.  It was a win, win, win. A win for us, a win for Skid Row (the album certainly put them back on the map) and a win for Erik, adding this to his already impressive resume. The fact that it was so amicable with both parties is also great to see.
    • I really like this album - not every song on it but there are some surprisingly catchy melodies all over. Personally I think the singer adds great energy to the mix. It reminds me of the earlier Bai Bang ("closer to you")
