The Twisted Christmas Film Festival continues with...

"Saint Nick" (2010)

Also known as "Saint" or "Sint," this Dutch holiday-horror import is like a Euro twist on "Silent Night, Deadly Night." Shortly before Christmas, the city of Amsterdam comes under siege by the pissed off spirit of Saint Nicholas, who's not nearly as jolly as his American counterpart, Santa Claus. It's up to a disgraced cop and a kid to stop him before he massacres the whole city.

Note: the version of this flick that's available on Netflix has one of the worst English dubbings I've seen/heard since the Italian horror flicks of the 80s....but the stilted, awkward English translations only add to the film's overall surreal vibe.

"Saint" is much more mean spirited than Finland's similarly themed "Rare Exports," with lots of improbable action and some sweet-ass violence and gore, so I certainly wasn't bored. Worth a look if you're in the mood for something out of the ordinary.

"Silent Night, Deadly Night" (1984)

On Christmas Eve in 1971, lIttle Billy witnesses the murder of his parents by a guy in a Santa suit. Naturally this instills some, shall we say, issues regarding Santa Claus. Spending the rest of his formative years in an orphanage under the thumb of an abusive Mother Superior doesn't help. You can barely blame the guy when he grows up for snapping on Christmas Eve and going on a killing spree of his own while wearing a Santa suit. Am I right? Am I right?

But seriously...this controversial little slasher sickie got run out of theaters by angry parents and PTA groups back in the day, thus cementing its rep as a cult classic. As slasher flicks go, it's a delightfully sleazy piece of work that will make you feel like you need a shower when it's over. This flick is a perfect antidote to all the holly-jolly Christmas movies that clog up the airwaves at this time of year!!

My all-time favorite Christmas movie. Nasty, mean-spirited, bleak, sleazy ... just what a growing boy needs during the holidays!! The remake was good too, but lacked the sleazy charm of the original. Then again, the remake did give us a topless chick in the woodchipper scene, which is always fun times.

Oh yeah, "Sleazy" is definitely the right word for this flick... I remember when I first saw it back in the day, I felt like I needed to take a shower when it was over. Haha. It's just so freakin' wrong all around. It's anti-Christmas, anti-children, anti-Catholic, you name it!! Hahaha

The "Silent Night" remake was just OK. The ending kinda sucked, but yeah, the kills were fabulous, esp. that woodchipper scene.... :rofl2:

"Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2" (1987)

"Ricky," younger brother of the killer Santa "Billy" from the previous "SN,DN" film, pours out his tragic story to a jail psychiatrist before escaping and embarking on a Santa-suited killing spree of his very own.

This cheap-as-hell sequel is infamous for its liberal recycling of footage from the first film (which takes up most of the first half of the movie) and the terrible over-acting of the dude playing "Ricky" (two words: "GARBAGE DAAAAAAYYYY!").

Make no mistake, this movie totally sucks, but it sucks in an awesome sort of way.

Life of Pi

Much better than I'd expected - good film with a great ending. Like it.

Serious Mr.Eagle? I saw that shit in the theater, fuck it might have been exactly a year ago today? I was extremely bored, and thought it was trying way to hard to bend a gigantic twist to end it, and I just kind of felt like it was boring, there was NO!! Nudity, strike 1, absolutely zero good violence, strike 2, and to nail that wooden nail into the coffin, I cant even explain how absolutely brain zappingly slow and mundane I thought it was, strike 3, needles to say, I for whatever reason stayed for the entire movie, oh yeah, cause the bitch I was at it with was fucking smokin hot, but if you found it entertaining that says volumes about you, because I try to find something entertaining in any movie, generally I can, but I seem to be the ONLY person on the face of the planet, who felt this way about the movie, or at least the only one ive ever heard of thats said it publicly, and admitted it? so I guess im the moron here. AND I FUCKING LOVE IT!

I heard that one wasn't as good as Part 8, but was vastly superior to #10.

    • Added Framing the Red over on the main site recently: Framing the Red discography reference list of music CDs. Heavy Harmonies Their website: Framing The Red Their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/framingtheredband Their YouTube channel: (23) Framing the Red Official Page - YouTube They have four releases, and all are quite good in my opinion. If I had to describe them, I'd say this is what Gunshine would sound like if they went in a more southern rock direction.  Here are some of my favorite tracks... Crossroads   Whiskey & Weed   Holy Water   Mississippi Hippie   Heroes   Bonnie & Clyde   Rockin' Into the Night (38 Special cover)   "Crossroads" and "Heroes" are probably my two faves.  *I will give a word of warning:  if you decide to purchase any of their discs, they are barebones releases with just the CD in a cardboard slipcase. I enjoy the music enough that that's not an issue for me though.  @lettard @KarpetRydOFunk @tts42572 @AlphaMale @Dead Planet @Mr.AOR @tobi is an animal I think all of you gentlemen should give these guys a listen and see what you think.
    • H.E.A.T - 1000 Miles Vega - Hands In The Air The Defiants - Stay Issa - River of Love I'm at work right now so that's all I know off the top of my head but I'll look through my library for more when I get a chance.
    • Maybe anything by the Darkness
    • Wig wam - hard to be a rock n roller
    • Saw these guys first time a couple of years ago, when they were 16-17 years old, they are absolutely awesome. They have been touring for a few years now, performing their own songs, yet haven't released anything, until now. I have tickets to see them this saturday, opening for Mercenary. First single and video:
    • I want to compile quite an extensive playlist of hard rock songs that has a key change in the end. Why? Cause I think it sounds awesome Some well known exambles are: Bon Jovi - Living On a Prayer Wig Wam - In My Dreams Danger Danger - Don't Blame it on Love H.E.A.T - Beg Beg Beg
    • My Japan copy showed up today. I was critical of the Part I album as that one just did very little for me.  Basically, I just didn't think the songs were all that catchy and/or memorable.  I played that album a handful of times trying to get into it and gave up rather quickly which was disappointing as I loved Wired.  Maybe I just had too high of expectations or something.  I know many liked that album but for me at least, that Megalomanium I album would be ranked toward the bottom of their discography. Well, after hearing this new one, I'm feeling the opposite....Here I feel like they nailed it and I'm digging this one after the first listen.  I basically couldn't wait to start it over and listen again. The first 5 songs just come out guns a blazing with catchy, hook filled songs.  Yeah, we've heard 4 of those songs as singles but I almost purposely haven't listened to those songs much so they'd still sound fresh when the album dropped.  Then the one song we hadn't heard, All I Want, is just another upbeat, catchy tune. The 2nd half though is where things probably get more interesting.  Songs like Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye are the kinds of varied balladish/mid-tempo type songs I've been wanting Eclipse to mix things up with and there's 2 of those songs here, both very well done IMO.  Then there's a couple heavier tunes like Divide & Conquer and One In A Million that sound like stuff that could've been on Bleed & Scream.  And then a couple other melodic rockers with Until the War is Over and Pieces. I also feel like this has some of the better lyrics that Eclipse has had in awhile.  I think a lot of their material recently has been just been sort of lighter subject matter, 3 minute "simplistic" romps.  I felt Part I had a lot of that which kind of contributed to it being less interesting.  Here though, it seems like some of these songs get a bit deeper and can feel more emotion in songs like Still My Hero, Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye for example.   Anyways, where Part I is among my least favorite Eclipse albums, I'd say my early impression of Part II is that it'll be among my favorite Eclipse albums.
    • New song 'Unbreakable'.
    • Solid hard rock album. Nothing really stood out to me, but it’s solid.
