``Ghosts Of My Old Friends`` has to be one of the oddest song titles for an up beat melodic rock song ever.

These guys also remind me of Loud & Clear.

To make this one stand out even more they needed some flashier lead guitar to fill in the sound and to have more memorable guitar solos. A Reb Beach / Andy Timmons / Rob Marcello styled player would have greatly added to this one.

yeah Ghosts is a pretty depressing song really when you read the lyrics. I wonder what inspired that song and who in the band it relates to ??

I saw something that said Rob Wylde wrote the song about him.  Apparently he moved to the US for awhile at one point and then went back to the UK after a number of years and everything had changed.  He said that was the inspiration for the song.

Great tune.  Probably my favorite song on the album.

So much new stuff around at the moment it’s taken me a while to get to this one. Been lost in the excellent Robert Plant Album the last week.

Read the comments after hearing it a few times . Good job as I may have passed it by with the White Widdow comparisons.

Really good album , that’s for sure. Reminds me of the last Trixter album.

This isn't bad, although as commented on before, very samey in places and probably THE most generic disc I have heard in many a year. Doesn't really get my pulse going if i'm honest

The stand-outs for me are 'Ghosts of My Old Friends,' 'Summer of Our Lives,' 'Nothing's Like Losing You' and 'Think About You.'

Next would be 'Everything You Meant to Me' and 'Can't Wait for the Nights.'

If you were that way inclined, you could pick the album apart about the sameyness, genericness, the vocals aren't perfect, the production is good but could be punchier or whatever you want.

Or you could just glass half full it and enjoy it for the joyous ride it is. Every time I catch myself thinking that maybe it isn't as great as I thought it was, one of those chorus hooks kick in and I'm in love again.

Over-analysing a simple album like this isn't worth the hassle. It's just a damn good album and yes, very generic, but very, very catchy songs.

I still dispute this hooks / very catchy songs claim.

Look, don't get me wrong I like the album, but when I am finished listening I can't remember a damned thing about it?? That can't surely be the mark of the best album of 2017.

If I think back to similar styled albums like One Desire, Degreed, HEAT etc I can recall every song, instantly in my head (not that they are necessarily my favs of 2017).

I think it might be the sameness which is the issue for me.....nothing differentiates the songs.

It may well make my top 10 and I'd jump at the opportunity to see them live, but it's no world beater.

Maybe you just haven't heard it enough. ;) Yeah, I dunno... I can remember it fine. As good as, or better than most albums this year. I seriously find it immensely catchy. I've agreed from the start it's no world beater, but taken as it is, I think it's awesome.

It is a very simple/basic Rock album. but it's still very good, so I agree with Geoff here.

I like it.
Kind of like Joey Tempest solo and bands like Electrik where the album is great but best listened to as a whole rather than having clear stand out songs.

I'm huge on making compilations, so half this album made it on to my Melodic Rock compilation.

Agree also.

I do see the "sameness" comment but it's just not bothering me at all and I'm finding enough in each song to differentiate them.  And even though it may be a bit "samey", I pretty much love every song on it.  There isn't a single other release this year I can honestly say that about and can pick a song or two off H.e.a.t, OD, Eclipse, Crazy Lixx , etc that doesn't do much for me.

Yeah, it's a simple album but just really seems to hit my tastes perfectly.

To each their own but i'd take all 4 of them over this.

guess I just prefer a bit more style, variety and production.

all those albums have better hooks and more memorable songs as well. IMHO.

But hey it's all good.

just glad that this year keeps giving :)

Saw a post on FB saying that album #2 could be out by the end of 2018.  Seems pretty quick but I know I heard in an interview with Rob Wylde awhile ago saying he had a bucket of songs ready to work with so maybe it'll be possible.

Rob Wylde Next year is gonna be a very busy one promoting this album with shows EVERYWHERE! But album 2 will be released late 2018.

I'd still be surprised if the album makes it out that soon but at least good to hear they're thinking about it

Well that's exciting. Whenever I am at a loss for something to play, this one always fits the slot. It really is an excellent album. I am vaguely bothered by the muddy production as time progresses, but there's no mistaking the songs are outstanding.

    • So finally got around to listening to the album (still waiting for CD to arrive but at least a digital version came with the order). This is defo the best album he has released since leaving Skid Row, and is better than anything released by his former band (even the Erik fronted album). I liked his solo stuff, but he was always trying too hard to be modern and heavy, so there were very few actual stand out tracks. On here though it really is more of a throwback. While not quite classic Skid Row, it is probably as close as we will ever get, kinda sitting somewhere sonically between the first two albums. The only downside for me is the fact there is only one ballad and it doesn't even come close to the two that featured on Angel Down. Seb took a long break between this and his previous album, and I think in that time he has taken time to reevaluate what he wants to do musically. As stated earlier, even the album cover is a throwback with it being a painting his father started decades ago. Hopefully any future releases will stick to this style, and not return to the style used on his last few albums.
    • Not sure, but sounds like christian lyrics to me. And could'nt find it on HH yet. 25 years ago I would have loved this, today I'm atheist and do not listen anymore to such... explicit lyrics.
    • Spider of Destiny-Frank Zappa
    • I got it for free when I bought the Dirty Americans album. It's a cool little sampler.
    • Ha, I remember them. Good stuff.
    • Better than I expected, honestly, as GUN was never my thing.
    • Agree. Have been a fan of Halestorm and Lzzy....she's fantastic. That said though, this Skid Row thing just feels "off" to me.  She sounds fine but I think it's simply that hearing a female voice do the songs just doesn't seem right after listening to the originals for so long.   I much prefer hearing Lzzy in Halestorm.  I'd rather see her concentrate on that and also concentrate on doing new music that's more in line with their first 2 albums!
    • From memory it was recorded after the original pledge release of Beautiful things and was added as a bonus song when it became available to the general public.
