Midnite City

The production is really weak imo - despite Pete Newdeck saying he spent ages on the production and it couldn't be better lol.

Its a top 20 for me but not top 10.

What does excite me is their comment recently of many live dates coming soon - being a UK band I guess that means lots of UK dates :)

Love the whole album, but this is one of my favorites on it.

From Pete Nudeck on Facebook:

So I started pre production on the first 3 songs for the Midnite City album #2. We're winning already. Already loving the shape of these. All.killer no polyfiller.

Rob Wylde also mentioned in the same thread that the new album is targeted to be out in October of this year.

Definitely looking forward to that one :)

Yep, that's where I ended up with it.
All songs are too similar and don't vary enough

Yeah, I'd be agreeing with that. That would be incredible if they did actually pull off two albums of the year two years in a row.

Goes without saying that I'm dying to hear this.

This album was my surprise album of the year as did not expect much, yet got quite possibly the top album of the year spot (although I do go back and forwards on that with a couple of other albums). Just hope recording an new album so quickly won't hurt them.

Obviously, I would expect some of the songs on the new album to have been written at the same time as the debut anyway, which could go either way on quality.

I'm pretty sure I heard Rob say in an interview he had like 30-40 songs written for the debut album which might be one reason why they can turn another around quick.

Will be interesting to see what they come up with but I'm expecting more of the sane which will be just fine with me.

I was in that thread and was asking for a sample, even if it was just a demo. Rob basically said that it will fall in line with the debut.

The final product will be a demo lol. Production on the debut sucked.

yep.

that since they wrote 30 songs for the debut I'm expecting the second album to suffer from the same issue.

I liked the debut but the lack of variety, pacing and production kept it out of my top 10.

still looking forward to hearing more from them and still looking out for a live date ??

Easily solved by throwing a few different sounding songs in the mix to break it up a bit.
Probably could also be fixed up a lot just with different production.

One of my favorite recent albums is Foo Fighters - Sonic Highways
They recorded each song in a different place in a different city.
Sometimes a church, sometimes a studio etc
Each song has a different feel and sound to it.

I am more than happy to have 10 songs from the same sessions as the debut. Considering it was without filler, who's to say that it wouldn't be extremely likely that out of 20-30 remaining songs, it'd be pretty easy to pick another 10 killers?

The only thing I hope changes at all is the production. I definitely wouldn't say it sucked, or was that bad. But no doubt at all that a first class production job would take these guys to another level.

I agree with the production comments. Didn't suck, but could have been better.
Perfect example of this is the Gun phone number album, where apparently the demos sounded more like the tradition songs until some INXS dude got to them and killed them and the band.

I still do not get all this talk about production. The album sounded absolutely fine to me.

Sounded absolutely nothing like demos.

not demos no, but play it after something like One Desire or Eclipse or HEAT and it sounds flat and muddy

No excuse for a shit production these days

From Facebook today:

So today marks the day that all recordings for the 2nd MIDNITE CITY album are done!
It's been 5 months in the making and a hell of a lot of hard work but we feel the results really do speak for themselves...
We raised the bar pretty high with our debut and many have questioned whether we could follow it up.
We believe we have and then some!
The album will be released in October via AOR HEAVEN.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the album title, track listing and tons more info on the build up to the release.

I can't remember if I had any idea that this was due so soon, but that's the best thing I've ever heard in my life. Wow, very exciting. Just what this year needs to give us at least one truly killer album. Can't wait.

    • Yes this one's not bad. Have added to my playlist.
    • Another Robert Mason post, but this time I really do feel a connection with it. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but my name is Dustin.  Everybody calls me Dusty, so when I saw the new Warrant album (Rockaholic) featured not only one of my favourite vocalists, but also included a track called Dusty's Revenge, I couldn't believe it. I then find out that it's a concept album about a "Rockaholic" called Dusty. For obvious reasons, I love this album. Here's a couple of tracks.
    • Harpsichord.    I thought of it and it was random, so there you go.
    • From their FB page: Alcatrazz wish to make the following announcement: Back in late 2020 the brilliant Doogie White came in to help us out with our then already booked live dates after the departure of the previous vocalist (those dates were ultimately postponed to late 2021 due to the Covid lockdowns). We all had a GREAT time...and thus, one thing led to another and before we knew it we had made two fantastic albums and toured considerably in a nearly 4 year period. Now our schedule is getting busier and busier, as is Doogie's with his very fine solo work... and with that, the inevitable clashing of dates in our respective diaries, and needless to say, the impossibility of him being able to be in two places at one time. We remain on very very good terms with Doogie and cannot thank him enough for his contributions to the band, he is very welcome on our stage anytime, as are all past Alcatrazz alumni. Current Warlord vocalist and someone already known to many Alcatrazz fans (as co-producer and also contributing songwriter for Alcatrazz's past 3 albums) Giles Lavery will be stepping up for the 2024 live dates - and with that we will be reintroducing many songs from the Alcatrazz past, including some not played in many years. Giles's first show is 22nd of March in New Orleans, lets all make him feel welcome and please lets also give a massive thank you to our dear friend Doogie White for everything he gave to this band since 2020, he is a true pro and a great person! Doogie has a video message to the fans that we will share later today as well. Jimmy, Gary, Joe, Larry.
    • Maybe it's because I've heard GnR a couple thousand times by now, but I much prefer "Fall to Pieces" by Velvet Revolver over "Sweet Child o Mine" at this point in my life.
    • I'll have to investigate that Durbin. I'd count Striker and Mick Mars among the best metal releases as well now that I think about it.
    • Haven't picked up Saxon yet, but as far as metal goes, I love the new Durbin album as well.
    • I wasn’t thrilled with the singles as they came out, other than “The Serpent and the King”, but I’ll be damned if they haven’t grown on me while listening to them as part of the cohesive package that is “Invincible Shield”. I broke down and picked up the Target exclusive to get the three bonus tracks, and I enjoy them too. Overall, a damn fine addition to the JP discography. Is it better than “Firepower“? I’m not there yet, but time will tell. 🤔 This one and Saxon have set the bar pretty high for metal this year. 👍
    • Agree with this. Though I think you should check out Firepower. You can get it real cheap new everywhere. It is molten. I'm also enjoying Invincible very much and 2024 new music as a whole.
