Woman must pay 1.5 million for downloading 24 songs

Recommended Posts

Owes 1.5. million

Am I missing something or is it simply outrageous to peg one woman for all the illegal downloading that went on in the early/mid 2000's....even today. We've all at one point or another downloaded something that we shouldn't have......and I'm not talking about Geoff and the all midget porn incident......I'm talking about music.

Sick people get away with internet bulling, internet hatered (that psycho Church group, Westboro or something from Kansas comes to mind) and of course the abuse of children. However we find the need to make public examples and create misery for those who downloaded songs. I think the music industry is mostly to blame for it in the first place, years of producing crap at outrageus prices, yet the little people are the ones paying for it.

1.5 mil? Daaaaaamn. :yikes:

The recording industry is obviously trying to make an example out of this woman in hopes that other people will see the story and go "Holy sh*t! I better stop all that downloading!" ... time will tell if they're successful at it... I'd say not.

Y'know, it's funny, but ten years ago everybody was sh*tting all over Metallica for being "spoiled rock stars" over the Napster controversy, but when you look back they kinda were right all along. They were the first major band to say "Look, if you let this genie out of the bottle, it's never going to get back in..." but nobody in the industry wanted to listen to'em. Now they're resorting to suing housewives for downloading a few dozen Britney Spears songs. Desperate much?

:rofl2: Midget porn is so two years ago, it's all about amputee barnyard porn now.

Maybe some of you have already read this somewhere but if not have a look at these links, i credit Demonoid with the following info:

COICA

In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced last week, and there will be a hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee this Thursday.

If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media companies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed from the internet and not just in the US.

Please see the following article from the Huffington Post for more information.

Stop The Internet Blacklist

And if you are a US citizen, please take the time to sign this petition

LINK

Update: Also for US citizens, you can email your Senator from the following link and tell him or her your concerns about this bill

LINK

Update, from EFF's website: the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed the scheduled markup of the Internet censorship bill — a fantastic outcome, given that the entertainment industry and their allies in Congress had hoped this bill would be quickly approved before the Senators went home for the October recess. Massive thanks to all who used the EFF Action Center to write to your Senators to oppose this bill.

Why not a billion dollars.....it's all bullshit anyway, the woman will never pay it as she doesn't have the means... I'd be surprised if she pays out $1....

No kidding...absolutely ridiculous. Trying to make an example of this lady is going to do exactly squat when it comes to stopping illegal downloading. I wouldn't pay those idiot vampires either.

I hope the stuff she downloaded was decent!

yeah, i heard it was the new Poison greatest hits box set.

Apparently she got caught out cos she rang the record company to complain that she didn't get the free bandana in the download file.

:rofl2: That's funny shit.

Seriously I swore I read it was Green Day and Richard Marx, and if that's the case maybe the extra $ for the fine is due to bad taste.

At least we can rule out Justin Beiber, 'cause the prepubescent bitch was unknown, at the time. Those were the days...
