From Frontiers:

Respected vocalist and guitarist Mike Tramp has announced the upcoming release of "The Songs Of White Lion," via Frontiers Music Srl on April14, 2023. As the title implies, the album sees Tramp re-imagining select cuts from his former band White Lion's catalog. Additionally, Tramp will be embarking on a 'Songs of White Lion' U.S. tour in May 2023. Dates can be seen below and on Tramp's website. https://miketramp.dk/

"For me, the period of 1983-1991 was a once in a lifetime experience. Everything I did back then was for the first time, and even though it was beyond exciting and adventurous, when it came to an end, it was more than just the end of a band, it was also the end of a very specific time in my life that I had lived and been part of. Over the next 20 years, I would revisit that time in my life in small parts, but never felt 100% comfortable with it. I simply could not force myself to recreate what I once was," says Tramp.

"Now, here I am again, the year is 2023 and I have recorded an album of the 'big' White Lion songs as close to the originals as possible, but exploring small new parts that today I feel should be that way. I am not 26 anymore, I don't sing like I am 26, and I wouldn't be doing justice to the songs or myself if I tried to sing like I am 26. Today, I sing the songs that I wrote with Vito Bratta over 40 years ago exactly the way I am today. This is the only way I can embrace them and feel at home and be honest to myself and the songs," he concludes.
Tramp first came to prominence in the music world with White Lion, who formed in 1983. After signing to Atlantic Records, the band enjoyed great success with the release of their second album, "Pride" in 1987, which included the hits 'Wait' and 'When the Children Cry'. The band's third album, "Big Game" (1991) and fourth album, "Mane Attraction" (1992) continued the band's winning streak, but ultimately White Lion disbanded in 1992.

After White Lion, Tramp formed the hard rock band Freak Of Nature, who had a decidedly darker and harder vibe than White Lion. Freak Of Nature would release three studio albums before disbanding in 1996.

In 1998, Tramp initially started his solo career. His debut solo album, "Capricorn" came out in 1998 and in 2002, his second solo album, "Recovering The Wasted Years" was released. Tramp would then take a break from his solo career from 2004-2008 to tour and record under the name Mike Tramp's White Lion and eventually under the name White Lion, releasing the album "Return Of The Pride" in 2008.

Since 2009, Tramp has been writing and recording as a solo artist releasing nine studio albums, including his most recent, 2022's "For Første Gang". He has also been a consistent presence on the road, both as an acoustic solo artist and with a backing band, with no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

What? Who the fuck wants this?

I don't think frontiers puts much stock into that particular question with the majority of their releases.  It would seem, that any record label that has a quota of 500 songs per annum, penned by the same individual;  couldn't care less what people might actually want.

Yeah, but surely they care about money.

Go listen to Enuff z' Nuff release called Diamond Boy . With Chip singing it's got to be one of the worst CD's put out by Frontiers.

My guess is this has to be about Tramp recovering rights for some of these songs or something by re-recording them and putting them out.  Can't see any other reason why somebody would want to bother with this or why somebody would think it's a good idea.

I think I'd be surprised if this makes enough money to even cover the costs.

To be fair, the dude has to earn a living.
WL are up there with Skid Row and the like as far as fans who want a reunion, so maybe he will make a few $$$
So good on him, gotta do what he needs to do to put bread on the table.

But not for me. Love WL as it was, and now it pales.
Sounds a lot lkike Mike's solo stuff vibe, and I love a lot of his solo stuff as well.
If I went to see him, I'd wanna hear pretty much all solo stuff that suits his voice better now, with a couple of WL tracks thrown in for fun.
Live no problems, but a live album... nope.
That said, it's pretty rare for me to be interested in live albums.

They peaked with Live After Death and World Wide Live. Been all downhill since then.

ADV's main band is Edge Of Forever. He writes produces everything as always, but you also get his breath-taking lead vocals as a bonus. Well according to the write up by adv on spotify they're breath-taking.

Love White Lion, love Mike Tramp also but fuck me this sounds awful. I didn't think WL songs could sound worse than what he did on the Rembering WL album but there you go.

    • So finally got around to listening to the album (still waiting for CD to arrive but at least a digital version came with the order). This is defo the best album he has released since leaving Skid Row, and is better than anything released by his former band (even the Erik fronted album). I liked his solo stuff, but he was always trying too hard to be modern and heavy, so there were very few actual stand out tracks. On here though it really is more of a throwback. While not quite classic Skid Row, it is probably as close as we will ever get, kinda sitting somewhere sonically between the first two albums. The only downside for me is the fact there is only one ballad and it doesn't even come close to the two that featured on Angel Down. Seb took a long break between this and his previous album, and I think in that time he has taken time to reevaluate what he wants to do musically. As stated earlier, even the album cover is a throwback with it being a painting his father started decades ago. Hopefully any future releases will stick to this style, and not return to the style used on his last few albums.
    • Not sure, but sounds like christian lyrics to me. And could'nt find it on HH yet. 25 years ago I would have loved this, today I'm atheist and do not listen anymore to such... explicit lyrics.
    • Spider of Destiny-Frank Zappa
    • I got it for free when I bought the Dirty Americans album. It's a cool little sampler.
    • Ha, I remember them. Good stuff.
    • Better than I expected, honestly, as GUN was never my thing.
    • Agree. Have been a fan of Halestorm and Lzzy....she's fantastic. That said though, this Skid Row thing just feels "off" to me.  She sounds fine but I think it's simply that hearing a female voice do the songs just doesn't seem right after listening to the originals for so long.   I much prefer hearing Lzzy in Halestorm.  I'd rather see her concentrate on that and also concentrate on doing new music that's more in line with their first 2 albums!
    • From memory it was recorded after the original pledge release of Beautiful things and was added as a bonus song when it became available to the general public.
