lettard
First match a bit of a pludder tbh It feels so strange to be staging a world cup in November...hopefully as the better sides play the excitement/enjoyment factor goes up...still it'll help pass these winter nights til the Prem comes back

2023 Gold Donors Darkstone Posted November 21, 2022 2023 Gold Donors Report Share Posted November 21, 2022 (edited) I'm guessing the non Aussies here aren't familiar with our win over Peru to get us into the World Cup. It came down to a penalty shoot out. Just prior to the shoot out, we substituted our goal keeper for Andrew Redmayne, a penalty specialist with a unique style. He did the job and became an instant Aussie icon. Not just for his style of keeping penalties, but his now legendary celebration. He was anointed as the "Grey Wiggle". It doesn't get better than. I will be going for our socceroos until we go out in the group stage, then in the knock-out rounds I will be cheering for the Dutch.

Geoff
lol about Netherlands. My parents are both Dutch and they've always been my second nation in any world event, such at the World Cup. Don't have any plans to follow any of the soccer, but I'm sure I'll hear updates here and there and who knows? Even if I was interested I think the time difference makes it impossible for an Aussie to follow anyway, innit?

I've seen some pundits having the Danes in the semis.

It's only the sixth time we are a part of the World Cup.
