Olu deniz is a beauty spot - like an idyllic cove - not much to do there except relax etc.

You can still travel in land of course.

Sounds like my type of place. I like to avoid humans on my holidays. I like beautiful places with as few humans as possible and as much nature as possible. :) $3,500 for 10 days for 2 people sounds like a good deal, but that's without airfares amirite? Doesn't sounds like a realistic price, sadly. :(

That includes the airfares so I think that's a wonderful price because if you backpack alone from our place, the two-ways flight alone should probably cost you around $2000 for 2 people, and even if you stay at cheap $100 hotel, 8 days will cost you $800, and the tour also includes the whole breakfast/lunch/dinner, so it's a great bargain I guess. The reason they have this price is probably if they can get up to 25 people for the low season, they have like 50-60% corporate discounts for airfares and hotels, so I think they're still having a nice profit even with that low price.

BTW, if one day you guys have a chance to visit Indonesia, you should do so. We got plenty of awesome sceneries here, many great beaches for Geoff to surf and snorkle, and even dive, and if you guys love mountains, we got plenty of great stuffs here, and also many cultural heritages too. Just avoid Jakarta, it's more like a crowded-polluted-city like Bangkok or Manila, nothing much to see here except getting wild for some crazy night life :D

This isn't my pic, just got it off from the internet, but you can visit Mount Bromo at eastern Java to capture the sunrise

or capturing Pagoda at sunset in Bali

or go scuba-diving at Raja Ampat

or go see Borobudur, the ancient Buddhist temple in Jogjakarta

Oh don't worry about that, Indonesia is very, very high on my list of priorities of places to visit. And it's affordable. It's been on the verge of being visited by us several times already. Something has just come up each time, though. Plus it's hard to select exactly where to go. I want to avoid Kuta Beach like the plague, but my wife would like to see the markets so we'd probably stay somewhere close by for a few days, then go out to some of the beautiful remote islands there. I rarely stay on mainlands. ;)

Something I always wanted to before time got away from us was go to one of those islands - the Mentawais perhaps? - on a pure, 100% surfing trip with my brothers. I still hope it's a possibility one day... I really do.

Kuta Beach is overly crowded but you need to go there at least once to capture the vibe and everything I guess.

Lombok is more quiet but I haven't got the chance myself to visit there, maybe next year. Sometimes it's weird, we local people still haven't gone to many places in our own country and instead we're interested to go abroad, while many people out there are very eager to visit our country :D

I believe Mentawai is a very ideal place for surfing, but I'm afraid it's quite far from your place, its almost on the most western part of Indonesia, so cost might be steep to fly there, but maybe not much considering your strong currency :).

Bali and Lombok should be your first pick I guess, coz instead of surfing, you can also chill out and get everything else there.

I have looked at Lombok and like the looks of it. I know that there are specialised surf trips to the Mentawais and they always seemed pretty well priced. Looks wonderful. I get what you mean about not getting to explore your own country, mate. People come from all over the world to see Australia and I've not seen the tip of the iceberg. If only there was more time. :( What a waste of a life, to spend all the time working instead of enjoying. :(

While you're debating such exotic locations as Lombok...

... I might be able to manage a trip to the Isle of Sheppey:

Hey don't knock the UK mate - plenty of beautiful scenery in our part of the world! My favs are the Lakes, Cornwall, Scotland, Pembrokeshire - all stunning.

Agreed, but Sheppey or the Seychelles? Very similar, but surely you'd go for the latter? :D

  • 2 weeks later...

My brother just bought 2 tickets to see Rocket From The Crypt in Berlin in April.

I thought that was pretty interesting.

Especially as he hates travelling and rarely goes more than 10 miles from home...

Dammit! I would love to, but I'm already booked for the MOR Cruise, and I might check out M3. You guys across the pond hear about the possibility of a MOR Cruise happening in Europe? That would be awesome!
