Vain - Rolling with the Punches 2016

Oh, holy shit. Refresh my memory, dudes - a lot of these songs are actually old songs that have been re-recorded, aren't they? This song sounds like it was from the 'No Tears For You' / 'Cindy' sessions, before their debut. I absolutely freakin' love that. I must own this album now!! If the rest of the album is like this, this one will proudly sit alongside their first three albums. Not to mention it'll rate extremely high this year.

My distaste for Vain is certainly known as Beat the Bullet a massively over rated steamer.

This song is a hundred times superior to anything from BTB but I am skeptic that this is "new" material. Sounds very dated in a good way someone wonders if this is a cleaned up demo?

Either way good song, I won't be beating any. Jokers to the record store to buy but it was a fine listen.

My distaste for Vain is certainly known as I constantly, mistakenly call the debut album Beat the Bullet.

Fixed.

If you like No Respect, All Those Strangers and Enough Rope you're gonna love this album. The sound of the download from the band is a little off sounding so I hope the cd sounds better but the songs are there and guitars are great and of course Davy sounds great too.

Yes i too received the digital download and have played this album completely through at least seven times now and i love the entire thing! Classic sounding Vain and just solid catchy songs. And i believe these are all new songs, i think it was the last album Enough Rope that had some old demos that were re-recorded

Not all new songs. There are two older ones I think.

And they're on the road again. Playing three hours from me in a week. Got the kids and girlfriend coming out of hospital that day after a foot operation so looks like I'll miss them again. Autograph on the bill as well.

I wasn't aware of that. Which 2 songs?

Chris Damien Doll talked about on mafia Facebook page I think. Passion was definitely one of them.

I'd be absolutely amazed if 'Long Gone' isn't an old song too. Like I said, sounds like it was written in the same week 'Cindy' and 'No Tears For You' were penned, even before 'No Respect.'

That could be the one but as far as Cindy goes that was part of the Roadcrew songs and I don't believe it was a pre-No Respect demo like No Tears for You.

Yeah I dunno, man, 1987 I think it was first recorded. And still one of my favourite tunes.

That one's definitely modern Vain, but a really nice version of modern Vain... taking enough from the past to make it better than what I've heard from them in recent times. I really like it.

Davy is great, such an original vocalist and lyricist. Been holding off listening to anything and hoping it's heavier than the last one.

I watched an interview with Davy from back in the day on YouTube and he's a lot different from what I imagined him to be like, and sound like, to what I'd imagined after all these years to listening to his albums.

    • This is kind of a twofer. I just got my Pioneer VX-90 Betamax back yesterday. Cost me a fortune to get it fixed. Well worth it to have such a beast of a machine. Before that I only had low to mid tier Beta machines. I am very excited. The first tape I played was Quiet Riot: Bang Thy Head. Watching that video I found myself in awe of how awesome Quiet Riot were during those first few years. How is it possible for a band to be that awesome and have it all go so wrong so quickly? By the time I heard about Quiet Riot in the early 2000s they were basically considered a joke. Sadly, I kind of just accepted that as fact. I was a casual fan at best and never really looked much deeper than the radio hits. That was a mistake. I am lucky that I at least got to see them live a couple times. I didn't appreciate it at the time. That was really cool of Kevin and the other guys to sign my ticket stub.
    • From Bravewords... Legendary rock guitarist Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne, Badlands, Red Dragon Cartel) has issued an update after he was shot multiple times earlier this week in a Las Vegas, NV street shooting. Jake shared the following via social media: "Checking. Is this on? Been awhile since I posted here. Let’s see: "I deeply appreciate all the concern and well wishes. Makes everything going on a little better. To clarify, I was shot three times. I was on my way back home from walking my dog Coco (I didn’t name him so don’t!) Don’t want to go into details now, I’m tired, but I feel relatively very lucky. The police found 15 shell casings at the scene which means he emptied his clip on me. I could only dodge so many so one bullet went through my forearm, one through my foot, and one in the back which broke a rib and damaged a lung. Priority now is to keep draining my lung till it’s done crying. Then we can pull that tube out and concentrate on the more minor injuries. "And by the way, Coco’s fine and appreciates your inquiries!"   Police released a statement regarding the shooting, which occurred early morning on October 15. The statement reads: "Officers responded to a shooting incident in the 11000 block of Alora Street. Officers arrived and located a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The male was transported to the hospital. No arrests have been made at this time. This is an ongoing investigation." In a statement to TMZ, Ozzy Osbourne said, “It’s been 37 years since I’ve seen Jake E. Lee, but that still doesn’t take away from the shock of hearing what happened to him today. It’s just another senseless act of gun violence. I send my thoughts to him and his beautiful daughter, Jade. I just hope he’ll be ok.” Lee played with Ozzy from 1983-1987 and was featured on the albums Bark At The Moon and The Ultimate Sin.

    • This is one of the songs Erik and Jona wrote for the next Skid Row album before he handed his notice in
    • So I have this info from a reliable inside source. There will be a new CL album at the start of 2025, and Danny is also working with Chez Kane on her third album which should come out late 2025.
