This "band" (I used quote marks cuz it's obviously a corporate creation rather than an actual band) is absolutely f**kin' insane. Cute-girl tween pop and nu/thrash/death metal riffing go together about as well as cheesecake and tuna fish.

That said... this sh*t is hilarious. The first video is like the Chipettes hopped up on Red Bull & Vodka and jumped onstage with Slipknot.

The second song is actually kinda cool (tho it still sounds like female Chipmunks singing along with a Stratovarius record)...

Funnier than Steel Panther by a mile... and the kicker is these gals aren't TRYING to be funny. Unlike Steel Panther, who are trying too hard IMO.

For giggles I posted that "Gimme Chocolate" video on my Facebook yesterday just to see what my "metal" friends would comment. The winner was my friend Mark, who sez "It sounds like King Diamond fucked a Pokemon and had triplets" :rofl2:

Firstly its not even funny/humorous or whatever and they are not even on the same playing field as SP.

Secondly the musicianship is pretty fucking epic (maybe instrumental metal is in their future?) and the 1 chick sings fair, I don't get why the other 2 pipe in and ruin what could be a fair to midland epic power metal song (s).

Third they ain't even cute or naked or nothing so the appeal is zero.

The cartoon-like skeleton costumes are neat though, maybe they all should have worn them?

If I never hear anything more from Babymetal sleep will not be lost in the martinsane household.

AlphaMale knows great music. Already a fan. :headbanger:

Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Elvis, The Beatles, King Diamond, Limp Bizkit. Blah.

Babymetal 4 Life!!!

I was actually just being sarcastic.

I do like the metal riffs but that fucking teenie bopper singing by the chicks is annoying.

My kids think BabyMetal is hilarious. This morning my 6 year old came to me with YouTube open on his tablet and sez "Daddy, I wanna hear the song by those crazy Chinese ladies!" :rofl2:

hahah. Crazy kids!

Babymetal is some corporate band making millions. They announced a European tour. LOL I'll be sure to go. :git: No. The girls a pretty fucking annoying but the music is good.

I'll make up for the pain caused by this pseudo-band with the band Jupiter.

If they were naked, it would be child porn. The girls are 14 to 16 years old.

It worked for Britney Spears, Christina Aguilara, The Runaways and countless others...

Meh. Not even remotely humourous or good to listen to with those bloody vocals.

Not sure why Steel Panther is even mentioned here. Might as well post a Metallica video and say that its better than Journey, two bands that have vastly different styles.

  • My Little Pony

Pointless then.

Yeah, but if we were to cut out all the bullshit, that would be about 80% of our posts. And 100% of mine. ;}

  • 7 months later...

Dredging this up from the depths as I've actually been listening and watching to Babymetal quite a bit lately. What some would consider pointless or blasphemy, I'm enjoying the heck out of.

The Japanese have always been more accepting of crossing genre boundaries and fusing styles that we would consider "inappropriate".

Instrumentally, the shit is first rate, incredibly well produced and performed. Sold out concerts... and I don't just mean in Japan. Go read some of the reviews of the CD and concerts. For every one there is slamming Babymetal, there are plenty of "old school" metalheads eating this shit up... and based on the concert videos people are enjoying the hell out of the concerts.

My first reaction was, like many, "WTF???!!!" but the more you watch and listen, the more it grows on you. It upsets traditionalists, but corporate creation or not, it's actually quite catchy on all fronts.

I'm a fan... so sue me. :headbanger:

A couple of my favorite tracks (the instrumental break in the second one is just awesome):

I bought the album from Japan when it first came out in February I think, after seeing a couple of videos. It's quite bonkers in places and as you say will have the 'Traditionalists' running in horror, but no denying it is very well done, played, executed and most importantly enjoyable to listen too.

Uh, so... uh, anyone notice the lyrics are in Japanese? I don't care about how "out there" and scandalous they may be - listening to stuff in a foreign language is as purposeful as listening to a CD recorded by my cat. Sorry dudes, to each their own, but I don't see the point.

As for the rest, yeah, I'd probably try it if it was in English - sounds like it's probably catchy to someone who can understand it. But I'm not about to go start borrowing CDs from my cat anytime soon...

Not sure why Steel Panther is even mentioned here.

the answer to your question is quite simple.........to provoke.

Yep. The only reason. To provoke.

Seriously, I'm telling you... someone in Steel Panther rejected Suicide's sexual advances or something that left a scar, because the dude has a vendetta like no other. Or what was my other conclusion? I forget. Maybe that he is a stupidly conservative christian and just hid it so well until Steel Panther came along. Either way, his constant bashing of SP is sadder than this band is. ;)

To you perhaps.

Some people are lyrical listeners of music (focus on the words), whereas others are tonal listeners (the melodies are of greater import than the words being sung).

You are the former, so understanding and liking the words being sung is important to you (which is why you only like Christian music where the "message" is not too over the top). The wrong or unintelligible words detract from the music for you.

For tonal listeners like myself, the actual words in question are far less important than the sound of the music itself, the melodies, harmonies, etc. That's why I can listen to praise-heavy CCM back-to-back with black metal and not bat an eye (or ear)... same thing with foreign language songs.

The lyrics could be "Arf, arf, bark, bark, MEOW!" but if it is musically attractive, I'll listen to it and enjoy it.

Picking up what you're putting down, but I would much sooner write off a CD with bad melodies and harmonies over a CD with bad lyrics. In fact, I would 100% of the time. I don't have a single CD in my collection that is there purely because the lyrics are so good. 99.9% of my collection is there because of the hooks / melodies / harmonies primarily.

I admit that lyrics play an important role in the music I love, but if they were paramount, I guarantee I would not be listening to melodic rock / AOR / glam. Like I said in another thread, there are SOOOO many new releases, basically on a daily basis, and for me there's no reason not to listen to stuff that has decent lyrics and decent melodies. For me to listen to stuff in a foreign language, personally, I just know there's stuff far more worth my while out there. This is the way I roll.

    • I was a pretty big fan. Nature Of The Beast is a killer song. Saw them with Dave Gleeson from the Screaming Jets singing and he did an amazing job, but pretty sure they have a new singer now  I recently went through the two most recent albums before this one and there were a couple of ok tracks, but mostly mid. Fun fact: I saw the Angels a couple of years before Doc died at the Middle hotel in Ferntree Gully and they seemed to hate each other. Pretty sure Doc said nothing to the crowd all night. Fun fact 2: when they were building the transit bar in Melbourne, a mate and I found a service elevator that went to the roof, which was under construction. After peeing off the roof, which is always fun, we realised that we could clearly hear the music 5 or 6 floors below from a DJ I think. He was playing Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again. We started yelling down the No Way Get Fucked, Fuck Off bit thinking we were hilarious. Then soon we noticed people looking up, and for some reason they seemed to be clearly hearing us. Another mate then called us to tell us security were on the way up the stairs so we took the service elevator down and managed to laugh it off. Stoopid drunk story I guess, but fun days.
    • Cheeky, getting your artwork in there. I wonder how you did that.  I like the vocal track on #1 and that'd be my pick. I personally don't dig the female versions of songs, because I'm not a female (yet?) and as these are songs written by ourselves I personally feel the best interpretation is an AI dude voice taking the place of your dude voice.
    • Yeah, that's great but this is obviously an accomplished musician probably completely in control of this output... not done with Suno, I'd bet. There's definitely dudes out there who are perfectly capable of doing their own music, like this dude, but for whatever reason might not be able to put a project together, again, for whatever reason... but this definitely feels a lot more like AI feeling in the missing gaps for someone otherwise in complete control of what he wants.  Either way, it is very cool indeed.  As Darkstone says, I'm not sure paying is the way to get the best results. I'm also not saying it isn't, especially with other platforms that are not Suno. I think already knowing what you're doing, musically, is the best way to get best results, personally. Suno, for example, is just perfect for someone who might enjoy writing lyrics but is not in any way shape or form an accomplished (or even adequate, lol) musician.  But yeah, it's pretty cool for some fun. I'm not sure if you checked out my links above. Keeping them pretty quiet due to lyrical content, lol, but you might dig some of the stuff in my links. 'As the moment passes by' and 'I'll wait for you' are two of my personal faves. Along with 'Faith to fall.'
    • Yeah, musically it's what you want, but vocally... Maybe Alex should take some vocal lessons from Ken Tamplin. ;}

    • Yep, although I was never a massive fan.
    • Yes, celebrating their fifty years. There only two original members left in the band. Dusty might agree with me the Angels died when the original singer passed away.
    • It's just not the same without the Doc though...
