Best albums of 2022

Recommended Posts

With Q1 finished I currently have 2 strong contenders for my top 10.

1. Battle Beast - Circus Of Doom

2. Ghost - Impera

Slash - 4 is a solid album and could make the top 10 depending on how strong the rest of the year is.

Looks like Harem Scarem isn't gonna happen for 2022 so that's disappointing.

Pretty early yet but so far for me:

1.  Kissin' Dynamite - Not The End of The Road

2.  Degreed - Are You Ready

3.  Ronnie Atkins - Make It count

4.  Girish & The Chronicles - Hail to the Heroes

That's really all I've got on my list so far.

Some good stuff coming the rest of the year though and I'm sure my list will get shaken up.

Not just been listening to rock.

Albums been listening to a lot

Fascination - The Birthday Massacre

Chimes at midnight - Magraduga

Earthling - Eddie Vedder

Shifting Time - Giant (ye, yes, I know it's not classic Giant but I think it stands on it's own as a good album)

The end game - Treat

Need to spend a bit more time with Foxy Shazam and the Marillion. Both had potential.

Nice to see the love for the Birthday Massacre album...superb stuff. Treat is great and the new Marillion is excellent too

I have a larger backlog than I can remember.  An awful lot of listenable albums seem to have been released recently.

So I'm now well into the Marillion. Their best for a long time. Also loving the Placebo. I'd say their best in 20+ years.

Update as of early May for me:

1.  Kissin' Dynamite - Not The End of The Road

2.  Crashdiet - Automaton

3.  Degreed - Are You Ready

4.  Black Swan - Generation Mind

5.  Ronnie Atkins - Make It Count

We'll see if Def Leppard can crack the list later this month.  Have liked what I've heard so far.  Also really looking forward to Shiraz Lane, HEAT and Skid Row later this year.  I thought the Defiants had an album coming too but not sure I've heard exactly when yet.

There's nothing else on the radar for me for Q2. I got Shinedown in July and Nordic Union in August.  Still waiting on a firm release date for the new albums from Avantasia, Threshold, Kamelot, and Blind Guardian.

1. Battle Beast - Circus Of Doom

2. Ghost - Impera

3. Skillet - Dominion

4. Slash - 4

5. Ronnie Atkins - Make It Count

I'd be very suprised if Crashdiet isn't in my choice now...outstanding release...just sounds so good

I don't know if anyone else follows this list that is constantly updated by the author  but it's a great resource for new releases in our genre.

Mate, I have a link to this on my tablet homescreen.

Like you said, a great resource that I've been using for a few years now.

Whoever this guy is, he's a legend.

Very cool. Is it meant to be ranked? Just trying to figure out how it's sorted. And the new albums that have a ranking but no comment yet, I assume he's waiting to spin a few more times?

It's a cool list / site.

I think he updates the rankings through the year. You can click on his name and he has similar completed lists for past years. I think the ones without comments are often pre-release albums or ones he hasn't listened to yet.

I like how Force Majeure is his number 7, currently. Is he from the future? Or are promo copies already circulating?

    • So finally got around to listening to the album (still waiting for CD to arrive but at least a digital version came with the order). This is defo the best album he has released since leaving Skid Row, and is better than anything released by his former band (even the Erik fronted album). I liked his solo stuff, but he was always trying too hard to be modern and heavy, so there were very few actual stand out tracks. On here though it really is more of a throwback. While not quite classic Skid Row, it is probably as close as we will ever get, kinda sitting somewhere sonically between the first two albums. The only downside for me is the fact there is only one ballad and it doesn't even come close to the two that featured on Angel Down. Seb took a long break between this and his previous album, and I think in that time he has taken time to reevaluate what he wants to do musically. As stated earlier, even the album cover is a throwback with it being a painting his father started decades ago. Hopefully any future releases will stick to this style, and not return to the style used on his last few albums.
    • Not sure, but sounds like christian lyrics to me. And could'nt find it on HH yet. 25 years ago I would have loved this, today I'm atheist and do not listen anymore to such... explicit lyrics.
    • Spider of Destiny-Frank Zappa
    • I got it for free when I bought the Dirty Americans album. It's a cool little sampler.
    • Ha, I remember them. Good stuff.
    • Better than I expected, honestly, as GUN was never my thing.
    • Agree. Have been a fan of Halestorm and Lzzy....she's fantastic. That said though, this Skid Row thing just feels "off" to me.  She sounds fine but I think it's simply that hearing a female voice do the songs just doesn't seem right after listening to the originals for so long.   I much prefer hearing Lzzy in Halestorm.  I'd rather see her concentrate on that and also concentrate on doing new music that's more in line with their first 2 albums!
    • From memory it was recorded after the original pledge release of Beautiful things and was added as a bonus song when it became available to the general public.
