Halestorm - s/t

I can't say too much yet as I'm only three tracks into this monster, but so far it is a perfect 3/3. I'm not usually that into female fronted hard rock, but this is really delivering so far. Check them out on Myspace.

Hearing the song 'Get off' ("I get off on you getting off on me") is really pretty sexy.

Check these guys out... I think most here should be impressed.

gonna see these guys live 4/4 with shinedown and 10 years

I noticed these guys linked with a lot of modern rock bands. Do you think they sound like other modern rock bands? Based on the first 3 songs it just sounded like "normal" melodic hard rock to me. Solos in all the songs so far. Yeah... I just thought they were a new melodic hard rock act?

Not bad at all. Though the singer screams, rather than sings at times, particularly on 'Take My Life'. Some nice guitar work too from what I've heard.

Haha... I haven't heard 'Take my life' yet... was not expecting screams. The three songs I heard which were great are:

1. It's Not You (killer melodic hard rock)

2. I Get Off (cool hard rock)

3. Bet U Wish U Had Me Back (stunning melodic rock)

Here's a full tracklist for those interested:

1. It's Not You

2.I Get Off

3. Bet U Wish U Had Me Back

4. Innocence

5. Familiar Taste Of Poison

6. I'm Not An Angel

7. What Were You Expecting?

8. Love/ Hate Heartbreak

9. Better Sorry Than Safe

10. Dirty Work

11. Nothing To Do With Love

12 bonus track Tell Me Where It Hurts

Hey Geoff... Halestorm is not really a "new" band. They have been around 10 or 12 years. They started playing in malls and local parks in PA. Started with mostly covers and started adding originals in. They released a CD called "Breaking The Silence" maybe 7 or 8 years ago that I really like. I remember mentioning this band in a thread as a recomendation to someone asking about lesser know female vocalists. It sounds as though they are moving in a more modern direction with the new stuff that will be out in April. I saw them open for a few bands up in PA and they were pretty good... of course I saw them 7 or 8 years ago.

I may pick this one up once it's released.

Haha! I never write "new" in titles just in case there's a situation like this, but thought I'd be safe this time. Not so. :(

Thanks for the info. So they did not used to be more modern then, hey? The guitarist at least sounds like a normal 80's hard rock guitarist.

I only just noticed 'Take my life' is not on the CD I'm listening to. Maybe they were a heavier band before and that's from the other disc Dave is speaking of, 'cause even though I'm only halfway through I strongly doubt there will be any screaming on this one. Just hard rock.

Yeah I think your right, that was the only track I heard the screaming on...

Yeah, I did end up liking this one. Started out stronger than it ended, but still very good. The first few songs were fantastic. 'Bet U Wish U Had Me Back' and 'Better Sorry Than Safe' (the two balladic numbers) are two of the best songs I've heard this year. Good stuff.

Their new cd was just released on tuesday 4/28/09. I gotta say that I'm really not into female-fronted bands, but this some catchy hard rock here. It's got big, thick production courtesy of producer Howard Benson. There's plenty of sing-along choruses obviously hoping for radio singles. The only other half-female-fronted band I have in my collection is the Christian band Fighter, so talk about going a few years in between female fronted albums. Some of my favorite tracks off Halestorm would have to be "I Get Off", "Bet U Wish U Had Me Back", "Better Sorry Than Safe", and I even dug the slower "Familiar Taste of Poison".

P.S., I picked up my copy at Best Buy and the sticker on the front of the cd said "The debut album by"......but I thought I read in another post someone saying they had an older cd out. Maybe they put "debut" on it since it's their first cd on a major label (Atlantic). All in all, this is some excellent modern commercial hard rock. Give her and the boys a shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Yeah, I agree mate. This is going to be the highest ranked female-fronted band in many years for me too. :)

I really like this. The second half kind of loses a bit of steam but the first half of the disc sounds great. I love the song "I Get Off".

Here's a link to check out samples of all the tracks at NEH:

Good disc indeed, but you are right that it shuts off a little towards the end. I wish there were a few more songs on here aswell, as 37 minutes is a little on the short side.

I typically have about as much use for female-fronted bands as Geoff has for songs about Jesus' love helping you never surrender your dreams, but when my brother gave the thumbs-up to Halestorm, I dug up some samples and gave the lass a listen.

The verdict? Not too shabby. Great production--big, thick, and meaty (sounds like a line from a porn movie). Not something I feel the need to rush out and buy a copy, but I can certainly imagine it making its way into my collection at some point. Definitely one of the best female-fronted hard rock bands I've ever heard, with some serious potential (this kicks Paramore and Flyleaf's asses seven ways from Sunday). Bottom line, these guys--and gal--rock.

Theyve been playing the hell out of them on the Tourbus, Im starting to wonder if one of the fucking jocks on the tourbus has a relative, lover, or other in the fucking band, it was pretty cool, but they need to start playing a different song, jesus fucking christ, they played song 3, I think thats the one about meeting some dude, in the middle of summer, and fucking every second they had together!(paraphrasing) anyways they played it twice last saturday! it's only a weekly 3 hour show! anyways, my opinon, mediocre band, absolutely BRILLIANT band!! as far as anything coming out in the usa, but I actually think that last Damone cd rocked harder then this, Ive become quit partial to it anyways! hope Damone does something new soon!
