Top 5 CDs in your stereo!

BONFIRE - Fireworks

BONFIRE - Point Blank

BONFIRE - Knock Out

BONFIRE - Free

BONFIRE - Strike X

After the thread on Bonfire v Frontline I thought I'd dig out some of Bonfire's catalogue, which is truly the most hit & miss of any band ever.  2 classics, 1 that's ok ("Strike X") & 2 that are complete & total garbage.

Wow Tim (2), you think 'Knock out' is garbage? is my presumption correct? I'm quite fond of that disc... worth it alone for 'Take my heart and run'. :)

Top 5 that have recently gone through my stereo would be:

Friction - 'Baby Talk'

White Eagle - 'Bustin Ass'

Vice - 'Hot... just lookin' at ya'

Frontline - 'Circles' (advance)

Bashful - 'Down for the count'

Hey Geoff,

Yeah I hate "Knock Out". Mostly because it came off the back of 2 such immense albums that it is just so incredibly far short of them. If it was their debut CD I probably wouldnt have minded it so much. The first tune is ok, so are 1 or 2 towards the end, & "Rivers of Glory" is utterly haunting, but otherwise... :bigboom:

Hmmm, just a quick check I was doing for myself which I thought I may as well post here... just because our tastes are usually pretty similar... but here are my thoughts on the disc:

1. Streets of Freedom - terrible opener and a shame to get started on such a filler.

2. The Stroke - just disgusting. Awful stuff.

3. Dirty Love - mundane, but a decent hard rocker. Not a good song by any means, but enjoyable enough.

4. Rivers of Glory - very nice ballad, as we agree upon.

5. Home Babe - Again, pretty mundane but a good commercial rocker. I really actually like this one. Musically great and a cool vibe.

6. Shake Down - average hard rock.

7. Hold You - great anthem-type hard rocker. Like this one a lot... huge hook in the pre-chorus bridge. Love it.

8. Down and Out - awesome hard rocker and one of my faves off the album. Gotta like this one surely? :)

9. Take My Heart and Run - One of my favourite Bonfire songs ever and easily on par with almost anything off 'Fireworks' or 'Point Blank'. One of my favourite songs of all time... was on every compilation I ever made for YEARS!

10. All We Got - again, very mundane but has a moment or 2. Not great.

11. Fight For Love - Another album highlight. Really dig this song a lot. Beautiful commercial mid-tempo tune.

12. Tonmeister - awful stuff. Should've never been recorded or put on this disc.

So there you go, my overall thoughts on the disc. Sorry to go off-topic, but I'm surprised you think it's THAT bad. A letdown, yes, but as an album alone not TOO bad, I don't think. :D

I've just played it through again & I do pretty much favour the tunes you've mentioned. I like tracks: 1,4,5,7,9,11 - the same as you do - but just not as much as you. "Take My Heart.." & "Home Babe" being my highlights, but even then they are not as good as the weakest track from "Fireworks" IMO. If you play either alongside tunes like: "Sweet Obsession", "American Nights", "Say Goodbye", "Know Right Now" etc etc from the 2 albums previous they just can't compete. If I was producing a BONFIRE "Best Of" (another thread maybe?) then only "Rivers of Glory" would be on it - IMHO of course.

To get back on-thread:-

CHICAGO - XXX

ANDERSON/LAINE/READMAN - III (Some great tunes on this)

PLATITUDE - Silence Speaks

JORN - The Duke

SABU - Heartbreak

I have about 40 new CDs to listen to, plus about 200 recent purchases I've only spun once but I guess if I had to pick the current regular spins they'd be:

Story of the Year - 'The black swan'

Seven Wiser - 'Stronger'

Simple Plan - s/t

Brother Firetribe - 'Wildest dreams'

... I don't really have a fourth I've spun enough times. :(

    • Just Got Back From Baby's - ZZ Top
    • Never understood why Binary Music wasn't that popular (at least that was what I perceived). It's by far my favourite Palace album. Every songs have killer melodies and a good production.
    • I have bought a few that are decent, but the two that have impressed me most are Mick Mars and Judas Priest.
    • King Zebra , Gotus  , Saxon for me so far and the new Alicate disc is pretty decent. As you've said there are a few still to come(Black Diamonds,Nestor,Remedy,Seb Bach,Kissin Dynamite to name a few I'm waiting for) and another 3/4 of the year to go
    • Have enjoyed all his output apart from Binary Music...so i'll give this a goo too  hoping for something in the vein of the debut mixed with a little R'n'R radio.
    • Solid song there. 3 for 3 so far. I hope there will be an album out soon. C.H.
    • I am looking forward to this, I was wondering just a few days ago if Palace was working on anything recently. The album art looks like it was done by the same guy that did the art for the Platinum Overdose albums. C.H.
    • So supposedly out but can't find it. Anybody listened to it?
    • New album to be released July 12th. Press release: PRESENTING ’Reckless Heart,’ the brainchild of Lithuanian-born Swedish artist Michael Palace and the fifth spellbinding chapter in the PALACE saga. This explosive musical journey resurrects the essence of the 1980s, each track pulsating with the potential to score a classic action blockbuster or drive the adrenaline of a training montage. Inspired by genre-defining icons such as AVIATOR, FM and DARE alongside contemporaries CHEZ KANE and CRAZY LIXX, Michael Palace meticulously rebuilt the PALACE sound from the ground up, returning to the true origins and inspiration of the project. ’Reckless Heart’ is an essential cornerstone in any AOR and melodic rock aficionado’s collection. “It was time to go back to the roots, as they say, and finally make that true ’80s AOR album that I’ve dreamt of creating since I started PALACE. It’s the missing link between 1985 and 2024,” said Michael. Michael Palace embarked on his journey with Frontiers as a songwriter and guitarist for various projects such as FIRST SIGNAL, CRY OF DAWN, TOBY HITCHCOCK and KRYPTONITE. These successful collaborations paved the way for a deal with Frontiers, enabling Michael to deliver songs aligned with his vision under the name PALACE. ’Reckless Heart’ marks the fifth release, maintaining a bi-annual album release schedule since 2016. Recently, Michael has produced albums for KENT HILLI and NEVENA and done work across diverse genres while taking on various roles such as a songwriter, musician, producer, and engineer. Tracks: 1. Reckless Heart 2. The Widow’s Web 3. Back In Your Arms 4. Girl Is An Angel 5. You Give Me A Reason To Live 6. Back To ’85 7. For The Love 8. Turn This Car Around 9. Weightless 10. Move Me 11. Stronger By The Day
