Isn't it really really soft? I haven't been impressed with the samples I've heard, but having read a lot of comments about the CD, I need to give it another try. Any check out tips?

 

Yeah it's basic pure AOR. Not overly heavy on the keys but the song-structures are pure AOR, and definitely lighter than even the first Harem Scarem disc. If you don't like the opening videclip "This City" (written by famed AOR-writers the Martin Brothers) then you won't like any of it...

It's not exactly really soft, but If you like your AOR stuff, then no denying this is a real top quality disc. If you liked the last Khymera disc for example, then this one is for you.

Thanks both, I'll have another listen to 'This City' to see if it does anything for me. I am much more into hard rock than AOR, although there are exceptions. (I listened to the samples of Alliance's 1982 s/t album on the Retrospect site this week - sounds awesome!)

The Alliance album is excellent - A nice mixture of AOR styles from Westcoast stuff to Pomp and everything in between. Check out 'I Don't Want to Leave You This Way' and the excellent Le Roux'ish 'Make It Right' for good examples of both.
