Which bands that you like....

Which bands that you like, are you likely to cop ship for liking?

I'm pretty open, I like what I like, but if I posted some of them on Facebook groups etc, I think they would cop a lot of criticism.

Nelson - people generally think of them as fluff, and I think tehya re far better than that.
Stryper - perhaps not so much tehse days, but early on, they were 'some weird religious band'
Trixter - were always considered fluffy as well.
Black Veil Brides - For some reason I think they are labeled emo, or whatever, and not 'real hard rock'
Five Finger Death Punch - same as above, for some reason they are seen as corney or modern or whatever.

Agree with all of the above - I would have to say Nickelback also. For a band that seems fairly universally disliked, they have released some killer stadium rockers and big ballads. Awesome live and Dark Horse sounds a million dollars. Great band.

Completely depends on the situation: where I am, who I'm with, what's happening.

My social circles are almost as diverse as the music I listen to.

I don't frequent any other forums and all my mates back in the day were into the same stuff as me. It was more certain mainstream acts that I copped shit for liking. "The Beatles", "Hoodoo Gurus" and "The Cure" spring to mind.

The Beatles always gets me. Why do people find it so hard to recognise such brilliance?
Ridicule for appreciation of possibly the most famous band in history doesn't make any sense.
The otehr 2 you mentioned were never my cup of tea, but if I was to look down on everyone who liked them, there wouldn't be many people left lol

Here's pretty much their only good song as far as I'm concerned.
They had a lot of hits out here, but I never jelled with their sound.
many many did though.
they were a pop/rock/mainstream band.

Aussie Pop/Rock group. The above track is probably my least favorite TBH. They had many hits. I've posted a couple before. This is one of their early, most iconic tracks.

never really understood why so much hate towards Nickelback and why people pick on them?

what did they do different from other similar post-grunge bands around that time, like 3 Doors Down, Hoobastank, Creed, Lifehouse etc

Write far better songs for a start

to me it just seems Nickelback became scapegoats for backlash against that particular commercial rock sound of that time

Don’t disagree with that at all mate. I’m not into Grunge by all accounts but I think there is much more to them than that. I’m a fan of all their releases and Dark Horse is solid modern hard rock album - to these ears at least!

Never took to any of those bands, but didn't bag them.
just didn't listen to them.

I guess they are the older versions of Black Veil Brides and Five Finger Death Punch where there is some kind of movement against them for whatever reason.
Too screamo, too modern. I'm not sure.
Maybe others can comment of why they don't like them and what genre they are lumped in to.
But I like them both.

Another one might be Papa Roach.
I never really did them, until recentlyand was reallty surprised at the catalogue.

Always liked Nirvana even though most people on this forum blame them for the grunge wave.....also I don't mind occasionally listening to Johnny Cash and Gordon Lightfoot....

Agree about Nirvana (liking them, that is).

Well, in the circles I move in, I am frowned upon for every single "hair metal" band I listen too - everything we come to this site for.

The others bands mentioned so far in this thread, whilst also being frowned upon, would be considered far less shameful than 80's hair bands.

That said, I'm very embarrassed about every christian rock band I listen to and cop any criticism of that on the chin. It's warranted and that's cool. Call me a glutton for punishment, I guess.

I like Nickelback too, but yeah, you never find someone on the same page there. Surprised to see a couple of fans of Blind 182 and Sum 41 here, lol.

As for Black Veil Brides... CTS, mate, I'll lay it down for you. I don't think they attract criticism because they are labeled emo, or whatever, and not 'real hard rock.' I think it's got more to do with the fact that they are absolutely, undisputedly fucking terrible, lol. And this is coming from someone who loves this style of modern rock and has listened to all their albums, including the wretched new rework of their debut. I keep punishing myself in a car crash kind of way, but seriously, whether you like them or not, you surely must admit to yourself they're just absolutely fucking horrible? Worst vocalist in a modern rock band I can think of. In recent years Gary Hughes (Ten) started to grate on me a bit,  but this guy's his clone only 10 times worse. Painful, lol. But like I said above, I'm a glutton for punishment, so I'll check out their next album too. ;)

Yeah, I can see how you may not like the vocals.
I never liked Ozzy's, Lemmy's, Mark Slaughter with Vinnie Vincent or that dude who sung that "I Believe In A Think Called Love"
Also many ohehrs that people seem to froth.

    • Good safe and well with the footage I've seen on news here in Australia it must be scary.
    • I can tell you that at the very least, there are people from FEMA working with some of the local businesses (my employer included) as far as looking at what aid is available to them. On the flip side, I've heard that one of the FEMA directors "got an attitude" with a few folks in the Asheville area and got popped in the mouth. I can't confirm that, just a story that's making the rounds.
    • Glad you and yours are ok Mike. There's been a lot of buzz on social media about the LACK of response from FEMA and the current admin. Have you seen or heard anything on the ground one way or the other?
    • Not sure if anyone has noticed my absence over the last 10 days, but I've only been able to sign in a few times from work over the course of that period. As some of you may know, on Friday, September 27th, Hurricane Helene slammed into western North Carolina and absolutely devastated this area, leveling entire towns in its path. In my 52 years on this planet, I've never seen destruction like this with my own eyes.  While my home and property were spared any major problems, our road looked like a damn warzone with all the trees and powerlines down. We were literally trapped like rats in a maze for several days, as even though some good samaritans were able to cut their way through the downed trees so we could leave the neighborhood, all roads leading out of this area were closed off, either due to trees and lines down, or due to flooding.   I was out of work for six days, as my employer had no power. We had no power here at the house for 9 days, with it being restored late yesterday evening. We lost several hundred dollars worth of food that thawed out from our fridge and freezers. No hot water after day one, no cell signal for several days, no stores or restaurants open for several days... If it sounds like I'm complaining, I assure you, I am not. I am grateful. My family and friends are blessed, as we're all pretty much back up and running now. While there was some severe flooding here in Morganton just around two miles from my house, overall, it was MILD around here. Once you drive a mere 20 miles up the road to a little town called Old Fort in McDowell County, and everything west from there, it is exponentially worse. Huge chunks of Asheville under water, Chimney Rock literally wiped off the map, Spruce Pine damn near wiped away, small towns with no communication to the outside world with people struggling. It is BAD here in Western NC, and it's going to take a LONG time for things to get back to some semblance of normal for ALOT of people.  I just felt the need to post and let anyone who might have noticed I was MIA that I am fine, but that alot of good people are not. Please keep western North Carolina in your thoughts and prayers, and if that's not your thing, drink one for all of us tonight. Here are a few links that I've shared over the last week on FB that show the devastation around here... https://fb.watch/v331QebVRJ/ https://www.facebook.com/100067755911039/videos/1069274148086583/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/ER9b6tv8oj84QuWb/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/9MpnKZUAx4m5oy3y/ All these aerial shots are from around 1-2 miles from my house: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/vux5WpAqeMDcNMhS/ https://fb.watch/v33x13dnTf/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/V6RPz7HiiMhrBsfn/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/vvEuMCm7We6fitZ9/ https://www.facebook.com/share/v/jE1utxkfNLeKEM9S/ Park Rangers in Chimney Rock managed to get the flag raised up again...
    • I've got a solid top 3 at this point.  At least for me, these 3 are heads and shoulders above everything else: 1.  Kissin' Dynamite 2.  Eclipse 3.  Maverick After that, it's really a hodgepodge of stuff.  New Roses, Daughtry (Only an EP but digging it), Collateral, Sebastian Bach, Judas Priest, Nestor, End Machine.  I'd probably put them in about that order at the moment.
    • So I was just looking at the new releases I bought from this year, and while there are some new additions to expand from the top 5 I posted earlier this year, to a top 10, all the stuff in my original list are still in the top 10 (although obvs with three months to go, the ones near the bottom could be usurped). Anyway as of now, this is where I am at: 1.       Judas Priest 2.       The Warning 3.       Nek! 4.       Rolling Quartz 5.       Band Maid 6.       April Art 7.       Lipz 8.       Sebastian Bach 9.       Mick Mars 10.   Durbin
    • I to used see them a few times at the Middle as well. With local chapter of the Hells Angels at front bar. Not much a Screaming Jets fan, so I didn't watch them with Gleeson' The guy in front now, was their recent drummer before they put out in front Those first five albums are classics
    • My brother was playing some of this guy's stuff a few months ago. I only now got around to checking it out for myself. Pretty fuckin' good!
    • Seems these guys are no more   https://sleazeroxx.com/r-i-p-cobrakill-lead-guitarist-randy-white-announces-band-no-longer-exists/
