Steel Panther

I totally agree. I have had Just like Tiger Woods constantly floating around in my head for weeks now, and only stops when it switches for Supersonic sex machine.

Yeah but they are the least of my worries....what about 'That what girls are for, critter, tomorrow night, gold digging whore, let me cum in'....they're the fuckers which wont let go :beerbang:

The middle two have particularly strong grip I must admit ... sometimes I have to restrain them from escaping into the out loud world as they try to take control of my vocal chords.

I was at my local Best Buy today and was surprised/dissapointed that they didn't have the new Steel Panther. They had the first one but not the new one. I thought this was on a major lable and was sure they'd have it.

Have you seen the cover of the album? :tits: I'd be surprised if they sold it at Best Buy or Wal-Mart.

It's a great album, more original sounding tunes than the debut.

Backed on that for sure. The debut just sounded like a bunch of copycat versions but this is more original - obviously 17 girls sounds like motley crüe & w ride is all Beth but apart from that it all sound - well just like steel panther! There a bit of critter as well which rips off Europe but that's about it.

Well after quite a few listens, here's my summary -

01. In The Future - intro

02. Supersonic Sex Machine 8/10 (Just a bit throw away for my liking. The playing on this song is outstanding though so still kops a decent score)

03. Just Like Tiger Woods 9/10 (Now this is more like it - mid tempo gem with great lyrics)

04. 17 Girls In A Row 8.5/10 (Nice Motley influenced track..real attitude, although hook could be better. Such a wall of sound though and the production is killer)

05. If You Really Really Love Me 8.5/10 (Ive seen this song panned a bit, but I really really like this ;-) Cool lyrics and a real good hook in the chorus. Short and sweet. nice solo)

06. It Won't Suck Itself 9.5/10 (Absolute killer melodic hard rock...and an awesome solo to boot...the vibe I got from this was Warrant at their best)

07. Tomorrow Night 9.75/10 (one of my favourite tracks of the year - great riff/chorus/lyrics are superb - overall excellent)

08. Why Can't You Trust Me 8/10 (big Community Property styled ballad...not quite as good as that track but still very nice)

09. That's What Girls Are For 9/10 (probably the catchiest track on the whole album - love the lyrics, hilarious, but oh so wrong!! A song-a-long anthem!)

10. Gold Digging Whore 9.5/10 (more brilliance. God, i love this track...I will forever be singing 'She's a gold digger, she's a gold digger....killer stuff IMO. and the spelling out is inspired!)

11. I Like Drugs 8/10 (bit of a small dip in quality - like the song, but hook could be better....ending is funny but pretty pointless and you just want to skip to the next track after a few listens)

12. Critter 9/10 (more killer MHR with an awesome solo)

13. Let Me Cum In 9.5/10 (another killer song - simply put the best verses Ive heard this year. period. Awesome lyrics, yeah just another great song!))

14. Weenie Ride 9/10 (Genius....esp the end when they all join in! Obviously a take on the Kiss classic 'Beth', but this is so well done, and v funny!)

Overall I think this will end up around the 90% mark for me. Great follow up album!

Believe it or not I absolutely agree with you except the 'That's what girls are for' thing. Great review!

I agree too Glen. Finally an album most here on HH seem to agree on. I've rated this at 94% which is actually my strongest rating this year, now if it's really better than White Widdow, Airrace, Chickenfoot...good question, but definitely up there. Awesome CD and MILES AHEAD of the debut in my book.

Counting down the days... I'm actually hopeful that this will hit the mailbox this week, which would be perfect as I could repeat spin it all the way up the coast this weekend. But that review certainly excites my pants.

Finally got this mofo in my speakers. So many joyous things to say about it. First thing being that I had the worst day in the world at work (well, they all are these days) and I was so unhappy, yet I laughed aloud all the way home, for the first time in a while. Jeez these doods amuse me. And it's not just the hardcore porn stuff that amuses me (and it certainly does)... I also love the subtle "cute" (for lack of a better term) humour that they slot in just as often.

As for the CD, as most would probably guess I'd probably made up my mind about this CD a year before it came out - without doubt the most anticipated CD for me since Cauterize's last CD (okay, and maybe Danger Danger and Treat's last CDs). I was always going to love it, but that's not because I like these guys' haircuts. It's because for me they are easily the most exciting band of the moment. I don't want to jinx them like I did Wig Wam when their 2nd CD came out and I said they were invincible, in such a perfect song-writing groove that they could do no wrong. And then, unfortunately, they released their third and weakest disc yet. But with regard to Steel Panther, they are as accomplished as any musicians in the scene at the moment, have the backing of incomparable production facilities, by far the most exciting, fresh and enjoyable lyrics in current music and their ear for a riff/hook/melody is just sensational. Effortless, seemingly. The groove they are in at the moment is so exciting to hear.

Anyway, I'm already dragging on, but I was so disappointed when this CD ended. I wish they had 7th Heaven's disease and released a 40 song double CD. They appeal to me that much I just never want it to end. There is not even a sniff of a filler or anything even resembling a filler here. On first spin I'd probably list 'Supersonic Sex Machine' and 'It won't suck itself' as the two "weakest" on the disc, but I totally agree with Glen's scoring average, and still think the songs are easily 8/10 at very least.

And then you have the rest of it. Wowser. 'Just like Tiger Woods' is easily, by far, one of the best songs of 2011 in every single regard. Musically off the charts, lyrically utterly brilliant - killer hook. Just a perfect song to me. '17 Girls in a row' is hilarious, the 3 ballads are all excellent, 'Tomorrow night' is maybe a little simple in the chorus, but otherwise flawless, 'What girls are for,' 'I like drugs,' 'Critter' and 'let me cum in' are all as amusing as they are killer hard rockers, and one of my other favourites after my first spin in the monster 'Gold digging whore' - man what a tune.

Anyway, to conclude my novel I absolutely cannot fault the album and even though this is all based on my first spin, the album is completely instant and any comments about it lacking hooks are amazing to me, because I've been singing a medley of tunes from this in my head all afternoon and evening, after just the one spin. Absolutely love it and will spin it till the CD melts. :)

May I be the first to respond lol !!

1. I completely and whole heartedly agree with you

2. The level of musicianship / riffs on this album puts 99% of other bands to shame

3. The hooks are insane....if you think its bad after one listen, wait til its 10 or closer to 20 like me....I had to take a break as it was driving me nuts.

4. I really disliked 'It Wont Suck Itself' when I first heard it, but believe me that once you read the lyrics and play it few times this is KILLER MHR.

Totally flawless, excellent hook and IMMENSE solo.

5. Totally backed on 'Gold Digging Whore' - that is a monster tune.

6. Something we always overlook with SP is what a GREAT vocalist Star is! Man can that dude sing and lay down an awesome scream....some of my fav bits are where he goes insane before a killer solo hits!

Thats all.........

Not overlooked by me, my friend. LOVE this dude's voice and his hilarious but awesome screams. I think we built on it quite a bit when the first CD was released... but yeah, he is essential.

I don't think anyone can accuse you of underrating any part of this band or album mate! In all seriousness, is good to see a lot of people loving it. Wish it had the same impact on me...

Two pics from tonights gig (sorry for the poor quality, but the lighting and dry ice smoke made pictures tough as hell to be clear):

There were something like 70 or 80 more pics but these two stood out for some reason.

I tried to resist, I really did, but I was out for a walk at lunch time, saw the CD and just couldn't help myself...

First time I've bought a new CD from an actual shop for ... I don't know how long. Years, probably.

Interestingly the top three albums in the UK rock album chart also feature in the UK album chart, all in their first week of release.

Megadeth is #1 in the rock chart and #34 in the album chart.

Loutallica is at #2 in the rock chart and #36 in the album chart. (no accounting for taste I guess)

Steel Panther is at #3 in the rock chart and #37 in the album chart.

Also, Feel the steel has popped back into the rock chart at #38.

Its quite impressive that they are pretty much matching those two bands for sales over here.

That's great news indeed and well deserved!

Too bad mainstream-people are going to buy everything as long as some famous name is on the cover, as that Loutallica's gotta be one of the worst discs on a major-label ever.

Any other chart entrys available for Steel Panther? Germany could be interesting...
