Stop press; I've been caught. Well and truly caught. Penance will be long and painful.

Yeah, my wife's definitely noticed a sudden surge in numbers in the ol' collection in the last few months.

So you've decided to get all of Amy Reid's stuff on Blue Ray, that would add to the collection. :tits:

That would be pretty awesome, to be honest... porn on blu-ray. I'm yet to experience that. It would be like your face is there, caught on the side of the shaft of the penis as it is rammed into the vagina. Awkward, but highly invigorating, I'm sure.

OK!

I went back to the FYE at the Mall today. I spent a large amout of money. More than I did last night. This time, I got home before the CD NAZI did..Last night I gave her an excuse that I bought presents (I think she bought it). I could never explain this haul.

Merry Christmas to me, Merry Christmas to me :git:

Bought a CD and got it into the house today right under the wife's nose!!

My 3 year old is starting pre-school next week so we had to go to Walmart and buy up a shitload of supplies for him (a backpack, snacks, a pencil box, etc., etc.). While there, I looked thru the rack of $5 CDs on a whim and found a best-of by Winger. So I snuck it into the shopping cart by burying it under the mountain of other items, got it thru the checkout unnoticed by placing it between some other stuff in one of the shopping bags while she paid the tab, then when I was putting the bags in the back of the car I quickly palmed it out and stuck it in my jacket pocket to get it into the house.

Unless she looks real closely at the receipt I think I should get away clean

Hard to believe I went to this much f*cking trouble for a Winger CD.

Got myself into a world of hurt lately with CD and DVD purchases, had to agree to sell around 120 CDs in May to appease HRH James' wife. Still smuggling in the odd one though.

Glad to see this thread back, it's like an old, very welcome friend!

Your not really going to sell 120 c.d.'s just to please the enemy? :omg:

Please tell me this is a fable, to get her off your back..

I'm sooo proud of you Keef!!

Mrs Junky has eyes like a Hawk. I could never pull something like that off. She even inspects the receipt to make sure she wasn't over charged.

It's not so bad, I won't sell anything that I really love and I'll still have enough CDs to keep me entertained for the rest of my life! And hey, if the evil harpie knew the full story, I'd be in a lot more trouble than this! :nyanya:;)

I love reading this thread and empathizing with you guys about our wives dislike for our like of cd collecting.

My question is: Why? Why do our wives dislike our cd buying/collecting. I mean withstanding, that we aren't taking food off the table or missing the mortgage payment to buy them, but just a happy health hobby... I just don't get the hatred towards it.

I remember reading a great article in Classic Rock (maybe) about a guy and his horror when he found his girlfriend's CD collection and how she wanted to display her 20-30 CDs with his!

I read this in the early days of my relationship with my then girlfriend (now my wife) and it was spot on the money!

As for reasons, if they're not music lovers then most people are content with owning 30 CDs, most of which are greatest hits or various artists comps. Some may also think it's something you should grow out of.

The older I get, the less time I have to listen to CDs. So I'm really careful about what I buy because I need to justify that purchase to myself.

Good question Terry.

This is my take on Mrs Junky and myself. I had this passion of music since I was a kid. I started collecting C.D.'s long before I met my wife. When you get married, they're more concirned about your shopping.

They want you to fix the house, go on vacation, or just plain save your income for a rainy day.

Women usually don't have any hobbies, so they don't grasp the concept of c.d. collecting at all. Would they understand Comic book collecting, baseball card collecting, or stamp collecting? Probably not.

It's just the way the woman's mind works.

Easy one in my case. Buying CDs has got me into debt more than once, so she's completely justified. The word "addiction" in the title of this thread is so apt; that's exactly what it is.

It is also worth noting that collecting in general is a male trait. Not exclusively, but for the most part. Therefore, the feeling of having to own absolutely every CD that you think you might like to add to your collection is far more likely to be found in men, with women unable to empathise.

Yeah, for me a few reasons I tend to find are:

1. I didn't have money to pay for them as I was already in so much debt.

2. I should be saving money for a house / kids.

3. I have too many CDs to listen to already and even if I just sat there and listened to them all one after another I'd never get through them in a few years. She's told me that if she took a handful of CDs out of my collection I'd never even notice. And hey, I guess - depending on the titles - she'd be right for a while, but eventually I'd notice.

4. They take up too much room.

I guess each point has an element of validity, but at the end of the day it's just what I do and an interest of mine... keeps me happy, so she tolerates it and is thankfully (sorry guys) not as harsh as what some of you guys report above. :)

BUSTED!!!!

Got a package in the mail today. When I tried to bring it in the house, she was standing right there. (She should have been sleeping on the couch, like she normally does). I told her it was only a $7.00 purchase (Which was actually the truth  ).

Then she tells me "F.Y.E. called, they said your order is in" FUCK!! I forgot about ordering the dvd for THE WAKING DEAD searies 1. When I did order it, I thought they had my cell phone number..

Since I haven't been buying much and it's close to my birthday, she let it slide.

I do need to cover my tracks better..

i really like this thread and the saga of Mr and Mrs cdjunky41, keep it going on bro :christmas::guitbannana:

It is a great thread. I suspect that Mrs cdjunky41 is a tad more lenient than Mrs JamesEagle. My missus has threatened something similar to what Geoff was talking about, i.e. dumping a load of my CDs. She would do it, too, so I've got to be careful for a while. What I'm really worried about is that there are about 10 releases I'm looking forward to this year, but if she sees a CD with '2011' on it, I can say goodbye to my CDs (and quite possibly my balls).

Reading through this and certainly enjoying the saga of cd's and our less than understanding spousal units, got me wondering if, now this is a HUGE what if?

One day you got the ultimatum: "Its the cd's or me!?"

What do you suppose you'd do? Personally I've tiptoed around this very question on a number of occations and thankfully I'm still married and still in possession of ALL of my cd's.

The question does weigh heavy on my mind at times and today I don't know what my answer would be. As I stated above I love my wife, but my music is truly a passion too...

I don't know what road I'd choose and I hope I never have too.

Lastly: Every time I read Mr. Junkies and JE's posts I can't help playing in my head that Stuttering John tune "Talk My Way Out Of It".

    • Looks like I've got a bit of catching up to do. I've been absent from the forums, and mostly listening to the classics.
    • It's not a lack of response, it's an actively negative response. They appear to be blocking people and other organisations from sending aid. Really strange.
    • Glad you're okay, @whiplash1972. I can't imagine what that must be like.
    • If you go to the "edit song details" menu, you can edit the displayed lyrics ( handy to get rid of ugly brackets and prompts ), change the song title and change the thumbnail image.  You'd be able to do that to your tracks as well I think. Create a playlist for each of your albums and use your album covers as the images for your playlists.  They present pretty well on suno. The below link is for my playlist.    As for the vocals, I don't mind having female vocals on some of my tracks. As you mentioned earlier, I have absolutely no musical expertise whatsoever when it comes to instruments and I cannot sing for shit. I sort of think that it's like someone writing a song and then giving it to an Artist, Male or female, to interpret it musically. Think Desmond Child writing for Bon Jovi and also Joan Jett, or great songs by Jeff Paris being recorded by Vixen. Am I comparing myself to Desmond Child and Jeff Paris when it comes to songwriting talent? Hmmm... yes,  I think so.       https://suno.com/playlist/1581a017-9d55-4b0f-8ea8-555aa5b11d00
    • Good safe and well with the footage I've seen on news here in Australia it must be scary.
    • I can tell you that at the very least, there are people from FEMA working with some of the local businesses (my employer included) as far as looking at what aid is available to them. On the flip side, I've heard that one of the FEMA directors "got an attitude" with a few folks in the Asheville area and got popped in the mouth. I can't confirm that, just a story that's making the rounds.
    • Glad you and yours are ok Mike. There's been a lot of buzz on social media about the LACK of response from FEMA and the current admin. Have you seen or heard anything on the ground one way or the other?
    • Not sure if anyone has noticed my absence over the last 10 days, but I've only been able to sign in a few times from work over the course of that period. As some of you may know, on Friday, September 27th, Hurricane Helene slammed into western North Carolina and absolutely devastated this area, leveling entire towns in its path. In my 52 years on this planet, I've never seen destruction like this with my own eyes.  While my home and property were spared any major problems, our road looked like a damn warzone with all the trees and powerlines down. We were literally trapped like rats in a maze for several days, as even though some good samaritans were able to cut their way through the downed trees so we could leave the neighborhood, all roads leading out of this area were closed off, either due to trees and lines down, or due to flooding.   I was out of work for six days, as my employer had no power. We had no power here at the house for 9 days, with it being restored late yesterday evening. We lost several hundred dollars worth of food that thawed out from our fridge and freezers. No hot water after day one, no cell signal for several days, no stores or restaurants open for several days... If it sounds like I'm complaining, I assure you, I am not. I am grateful. My family and friends are blessed, as we're all pretty much back up and running now. While there was some severe flooding here in Morganton just around two miles from my house, overall, it was MILD around here. Once you drive a mere 20 miles up the road to a little town called Old Fort in McDowell County, and everything west from there, it is exponentially worse. Huge chunks of Asheville under water, Chimney Rock literally wiped off the map, Spruce Pine damn near wiped away, small towns with no communication to the outside world with people struggling. It is BAD here in Western NC, and it's going to take a LONG time for things to get back to some semblance of normal for ALOT of people.  I just felt the need to post and let anyone who might have noticed I was MIA that I am fine, but that alot of good people are not. Please keep western North Carolina in your thoughts and prayers, and if that's not your thing, drink one for all of us tonight. Here are a few links that I've shared over the last week on FB that show the devastation around here... https://fb.watch/v331QebVRJ/ https://www.facebook.com/100067755911039/videos/1069274148086583/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/ER9b6tv8oj84QuWb/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/9MpnKZUAx4m5oy3y/ All these aerial shots are from around 1-2 miles from my house: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/vux5WpAqeMDcNMhS/ https://fb.watch/v33x13dnTf/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/V6RPz7HiiMhrBsfn/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/vvEuMCm7We6fitZ9/ https://www.facebook.com/share/v/jE1utxkfNLeKEM9S/ Park Rangers in Chimney Rock managed to get the flag raised up again...
    • I've got a solid top 3 at this point.  At least for me, these 3 are heads and shoulders above everything else: 1.  Kissin' Dynamite 2.  Eclipse 3.  Maverick After that, it's really a hodgepodge of stuff.  New Roses, Daughtry (Only an EP but digging it), Collateral, Sebastian Bach, Judas Priest, Nestor, End Machine.  I'd probably put them in about that order at the moment.
