Sad news...I may not be making it down for Candy Harlots. I will know next week.

Jerk.

Are you coming, angel pants? Hope you make it, Justin. I'd hate to be stuck with Matty-Boo all night.

Yeah caught Suzie on Spicks and Specks. I remember seeing Chiorboys at Crown Casino a couple years ago, they played :Run to Paradise" as their opening song and next song "Teen Spirit" by Nirvana.

So how was the Candy Harlots show? Was I crazy not to make it?

Short answer - no.

I HATE THE F*CKING GAELIC CLUB!!! Second time I've been there and both times the experience was seriously tainted by the shithouse sound. I don't know if they realise the place is about 5 metres square and when it's up that loud and the sound has nowhere to go it just sounds like shit. I'm already dreading seeing Pretty Boy Floyd there at the end of the month. I really hate the place.

But, was it worth $30? Hell yeah. Here's my review:

First band was shit. Can't remember their name. First song was cool, had a cool riff so I bought a second beer... and then the next few songs were crap. Only saving grace was the female lead singer wearing a ridiculously (awesome) short dress. I went across the road to where my mate was at after the beer finished.

Then we all came back for Next. Very promising band. The vocalist has a voice of gold and the band were tight as hell. First song was great, current single was great, another song called 'Rock n'roll revolution' was good and they did a great cover of 'We all die young'. They'd just got back from recording in LA, so we might hear more of these guys. Only pity was the rest of the songs in the set were pretty bland.

And bring on Candy Harlots. By this time the sound was pretty much a wall of noise, but I stood literally on the back wall and it was almost tolerable. The vocals were low in the mix and Aiz Lynch looked nothing like in his prime - man he'd put on some kilos! But he still sounded alright when you could hear him properly. Phil Bowley looked like the current bald Satriani, but this dude can seriously shred. And he did. Leeno was recognizable and energetic, the drummer went well and the rhythm guitarist looked well beaten, also putting on about 50kgs.

Anyway, to the music. They were okay individually, but I'm not sure how much rehearsal time they got before the 17 year reunion. They weren't overly tight all the time and perhaps a little sloppy, for lack of a better word. Aiz was very, very casual and relaxed all night. They played all the songs off 'Five wicked ways' except 'Devils blues', one or two of the b-sides and a cover or two for the encore. Overall, it was a good gig and so well worth the $30, but I'd have paid $10 extra for it to be at a different venue like the Metro or Enmore. F*ck you, Gaylic Club!

FYI, apparently they were recording the gig for a DVD release. I'd be interested to see that.

any photos or videos any where?

Mate, not that I know of. Certainly not from me. As I said, I was just standing at the back of the room. I had my camera and all too, but didn't want to get any closer for fear of the sound being even more f*cked up than it already was.

So how was PBF guys? Has anyone seen them in Oz yet?

I've seen a few bands this past week. I saw the Screaming Jets who were good as always. And last night I saw 1927. Matt, I know you had a bad experience seeing them a while back, but I've gotta say seeing them last night at a big venue with a full band, they sounded awesome! I'd highly recommend geting along to one of their gigs this year. Eric Weideman played a few new songs of his own. He has an EP out so hopefully an album won't be too far away. Unfortunately I'll have to miss PBF tonight to go to a stupid work xmas party.

Seriously mate, ditch the Christmas Party, seriously.

I met up with Lindsay (who's probably still asleep) last night to see Pretty Boy Floyd in Sydney.

Things got off to an amazing start with White Widdow. It may not have show on my calm exterior, but I was in heaven when these guys were playing. Pure keyboard inclusive melodic rock heaven. Every song was absolutely excellent without exception. Great set too - the live songs sound a lot better than the EP. Loved it.

Devine Electric were okay. The lead singer was charismatic as hell and I know Lindsay found him very attractive. Seriously funny dude and they had a couple of decent songs. He was a good showman either way.

The Next - I f*cked up getting to the venue which meant I missed out on dinner so I took this opportunity to go grab some food. I saw them open for Candy Harlots and wasn't too impressed so it was no big miss. Caught the end of the set and it sounded like the same set as the other week anyway.

Pretty Boy Floyd were awesome. Being the follower I am I went in pretty close when Lindsay set himself up stageside and to be honest the whole night featured, by far, the best sound I've experienced in this place. They must have been reading my comments I dare say. Anyway, they played the whole 'LBWET' album, 'Saturday nite', 'Junkie girl', 'Dept of youth' and I'm sure there were a couple more. It was an awesome set (only missing 'Restless' which I was really hoping they'd play). The band actually sounded really great and Steve Summers sounded just like he does on disc. Great experience to see these guys live as their debut is one of my all-time faves. With 2 newer band members I was afraid it wouldn't see like the 'real' PBF and I'd be disappointed, but to be honest they exceeded expectations considerably. Really loved the show.

As I said in the other thread, sadly I had to drive (because the city and Sydney transport is f*cked) so I only got to have one real beer and then a bunch of lights but Lindsay was packing them away in my stead. Hope he pulled up okay today. He got a handful of terrifying photos and kept cutting my head off, so he'll probably post those when he's done with his world tour. As always, great to meet up with him too - top fella. Next time we'll make sure the gig's on a weekend so I can get on it too. :)

Yeah I am contemplating missing this xmas party, more so now. So its not just Brisbane that has f**ked up public transport, good to know. Anyway sounds like you had an awesome night.

Yeah, it was awesome. Mate, the public transport in Sydney is enough to make you kill someone midweek. Even on weekends you're lucky to make it onto that last bus/train at the end of the night after a concert. But during the week you have no hope at all unless it's a Wiggles show finishing at 8:30pm.

And driving in the city is about 100% worse than catching public transport - completely infuriating and the ultimate in frustration. I thought I'd miss White Widdow because of it, but gladly it all worked out. After 100L of petrol plus I'm 99% sure I got a photo taken in a bus-lane where I really shouldn't have been, right in the city's busiest interesction! It was the only way though. I expect a fine which I'll deny.

I just checked the website and unfortunately you guys don't get White Widdow up there because if you did you'd have to go. I'd still go for PBF if I were you. :)
