Another favorite is one about this hero that fights Nazis back in WWII but the name of it escapes me. I haven't gone through my comics in years but I remember really liking that one. I think the guy was dressed in a blue air force uniform with a captains cap but I may be way off base. I just remember I could never find another issue in the stores so I pretty much gave up looking.

Would this be "Blackhawk" by any chance, BT? I had a TON of issues of that in my old collection. There were seven guys in the Blackhawk group, they all had souped up airplanes and they kicked lots of Nazi ass. That series dates back to the 1940s. They disappeared for a while and then they were published by DC on and off from the 60s to the early '80s. Howard ("American Flagg") Chaykin re-vamped them in the mid-'80s but that version was a little too adult/avant-garde for me. Overall, they were pretty cool stuff though. I still have a page of original Blackhawk artwork signed by Dave Cockrum (who also did "X-Men" back in the mid-70s) from when I met him at a comic book convention in the late '80s...

I couldn't tell you at the moment. I'm rummaging around the spare bedroom looking for my box of comics and Becketts and for the life of me I can't remember where they are. They'll turn up sometime, probably 5 years from now. <_<

Well it wasn't five years, but it was darn close. Today my wife comes up to me and asks me what I want to do with this big green bin. I asked her what was in it and she told me "a bunch of your junk". I opened it up and there are all of my comics, all of my Beckett's, a big satin AC/DC flag, a couple boxes of hockey cards and pretty much everything else I have been saving since high school!

So to answer your question Keith, Yes, it was Blackhawk. I have issue #267 from Feb 84. I also have a bunch of Fantastic Four and some Transformers and Star Wars comics in there as well. I am as happy as a clam right now! :D

You may not be as happy as a clam for long. You better hide those things again or you may be having a big yard sale. Hide them a little better this time, if she finds them again she may discard them without letting you know she discovered them again. :cartman:

 Well, now I know where they are and I made sure to bury the box waaaaay back in the closet so hopefully they will stay there for a long time. I also reiterated to her the importance of all of my treasures in there.

I can't answer for Rick but my lone 80s porn star autograph (Ginger Lynn) is safely housed inside the sleeve of one of my Black Sabbath LPs.

Bumpin' this oldie but goodie just to mention that I dug into my box of "keeper" comics last night and re-discovered Ben Edlund's "The Tick" (hence my new avatar and signature quote..."The Tick" was one of the most quotable comics ever)... I had forgotten how hilarious this series was. How can you not love a mental institution escapee turned super hero whose "battle cry" was "SPOON?"

When I was young I preferred horror and war comics, plus Harvey and Warren titles. I buy/sell comics and have 1000's but my personal collection is pretty small, mostly silver/bronze and some sentimental favs. I don't keep up with reading new issues, I usually wait til I have a run or trade paperback.

Some of my top picks are

SAVAGE DRAGON/FREAK FORCE

ASTRO CITY

SANDMAN

FANTASTIC FOUR

later DAREDEVIL, BATMAN and JLA

HELLBOY & BRDP

MARVELS

WATCHMEN

Really looking forward to the WATCHMEN movie, wish they would hurry up and let it be released

KINGDOM COME

i went to a collectors fair last month and was flicking through the graphic novels at one of the stalls and had to choose between the first Sandman story and Watchmen....the guy behind the stall was really pushing for me to get watchmen but i went for Sandman cause i really love that dark style lately.....im glad i did too!

im looking forward to a new comic series coming out in January, Star Trek: Countdown, its only 4 issues (January, February, March and April with the film coming out in May) and it basically introduces the bad guy of the new film (a badass looking Romulan played by Eric Bana)

im slowly going back into geek mode with this new film :anon:

Wondered if there would be a thread on this. I've been reading a lot of TPBs recently, e.g. 'Y: The Last Man', 'Powers', 'Top Ten', '100 Bullets' and 'Ex Machina'. I absolutely love the art form and I'm trying to persuade Gibbo to work on a title with me (he is an amazing artist).

Favourite comic characters are Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer, Venom, Carnage, Deadpool, Spawn, Sandman, Hellshock. Not really a DC fan and I like the more mysterious/dark stuff.

Does anyone read 'The Invisibles', 'The Darkness', 'House of Mystery' or 'Orc Stain'? All titles I'm thinking of checking out...

A couple of weeks back my now ten-year-old son asked if he could borrow some of my issues of "The Tick" to read before bed. I was so proud. :D

I'm currently digging the Image title Saga.

I was thinking of checking that one out...

Although I have got bored of BKV's 'Ex Machina' fairly quickly. It's not a patch on 'Y The Last Man' imo.

Y The Last Man was brilliant. Saga is Fantasic. BKV at his best and Fiona Staples art is excellent. Locke & Key is really good too. BKV and Marcos Martin do a web comic called The Private Eye that's super good too. You can check it out at panelsyndicate.com

I love 'Locke & Key'.

What did you think of the ending to 'Y The Last Man'? I loved the comic - great ideas, characters, etc and a real page-turner, but I thought the ending was a bit "meh".

I was glad Yorick escaped the institution, but wasn't digging the whole clone thing. Not sure how they could rebuild society without all the clones but it left me feeling a little cold. Of course it was sad to see Ampersand die but I guess that was inevitable.

I thought the 'how it all happened' explanation was a bit shit as well.

All in all it was a great run though
