Nightrain
Nothing really great in this lot, but a nice varied day on the stereo (for the record, the Matrex one was my fave); Mastedon - It's A Jungle Out There Mastedon - Lodcaudio Masterplan - Masterplan Matrex - I'll Always Remember Mattador - Save Us From Ourselves Maximum - Just For Kicks Brian McDonald - Wind It Up Kenny McGee - The Lost Heartless Years… never heard of Matrex before, what's the closest comparison ? Maximum should be around 80%, aren't they ?

I like the album, but it got a 72% from me and I think that's very fair. Good solid riff driven glam hard rock, but severely lacking in creativity or song writing prowess when it comes to good hooks and choruses. Solid album, but nothing more. Great day, with 4 (!!) release above *80% in one day: *Kenny McGee (and Lefty) - Kenny McGee (and Lefty) KMD - Kenny McGee's Disease *McQueen Street - McQueen Street McQueen Street - 2 Stan Meissner - Dangerous Games Stan Meissner - Windows To Light *Stan Meissner - Undertow *Melidian - Lost In The Wild

Got an 89% - love that thing. Perfect mix of hard rock riffs and keys, and good catchy hard rock songs. Mmm, delicious CD.
Glen
Don't go scoring albums higher than they deserve for sentimental reasons ;-) I always thought they should have ditched the title song, and like Paul Laine the album needed a monster rocker at the end to obtain classic 90% status from me. Great album though.
Glen
Just to add as well that 'Livin Under The Gun' is probably in my top 20 songs of 1989. Classic rocker.

Great album though. Nah, it's not rated any higher for sentiment... but I may rate the songs higher than others because I just have actually loved these songs for so long. It's not sentiment... just a genuine long standing adoration for these songs. I agree, though, that the title track is easily the worst song on the album. Why on earth do bands name albums after the weakest song on there???

Geoff
Quite a strong day today too. The Melodica debut is kind of a guilty pleasure. I know it's terrible and I don't know how one of my favourite vocalists ever managed to sound so bad, but there are some good songs that save an album with the production qualities of a dead sperm whale; Melodica - Long Way From Home Melodica - Lovemetal Mennen - Mennen Message - Outside Looking In Messano - Messano Metropolis - The Power Of Night Metal Skool - Hole Patrol Miami Riot - Dirty Living In The City Bret Michaels - Songs Of Life Bret Michaels - Custom Built

The Metal Skool EP was by far the pick of the bunch, but yes, in terms of full albums the Metropolis one was pretty clearly the best of the bunch. Very nice album, and reminds me of the last few family holidays that we must have all gone on together with Mum & Dad before we all got old and had other things on too. But yeah, 1999 (when it was released) must have been one of, if not the last one we all did together. And I remember listening to this new release several times during that trip. Good memories.
