Gathering Of Kings To Release New Single "Vagabond Rise" In January

Gathering Of Kings will release a new song, "Vagabond Rise", on Sunday, January 2. The track is the first single from the band's upcoming yet untitled 3rd studio album, set for release in may 2022 via RN Records.

"Vagabond Rise" was produced by Thomas "Plec" Johansson at The Panic Room in Skövde with Ron Dahlgren, Nina Dahlgren & Victor Olsson as executive producers.

The track was written by Victor Olsson and the lyrics were written by Victor and Alexander Frisborg. Drums were recorded at Nordic Sound Lab by Mikko Viitala and Victor Olsson.

The cover artwork for the single was created by Markus Vesper Art.

Guitarist and songwriter Victor Olsson commented on the new single:

"The song itself is a story of empowerment, domestic abuse and taking matters into your own hands, despite leaving yourself vulnerable and homeless. A story that came to me after watching the NETFLIX show "Maid", I felt very strongly about the subject and wanted to put it in an empowering 80s rock costume! Hopefully you'll all sense the vibe and feel what we feel."

Gathering Of Kings was created and is supervised by Ron Dahlgren and Nina Dahlgren, bringing together top musicians from the current hard rock scene in Sweden.

The idea was to create an AOR/Melodic Hard Rock project/band like Tom Galley's Phenomena or even Tobias Sammet's Avantasia, with multiple vocalists and instrumentalists.

Victor Olsson is the main songwriter, with Alexander Frisborg co-writing the lyrics.

Line-Up on "Vagabond Rise":

Magnus Mild - Rhythm Guitar

Mikael Planefeldt - Bass

Gathering Of Kings are now booking shows for 2022 and 2023 to support the band's third studio album. Interested parties should contact Ron Dahlgren & Nina Dahlgren via gatheringofkingssweden@gmail.com

Press release from the band:

Swedish melodic hard rockers Gathering Of Kings third studio album "Enigmatic" will be released on July 29th via RN Records.

The album was mixed and mastered by award-winning producer Thomas "Plec" Johansson in Skövde, Sweden with Ron Dahlgren, Nina Dahlgren and Victor Olsson as executive producers. The songs was written and produced by Victor Olsson. Drums were recorded at Nordic Sound Lab in Skara by Mikko Viitala and Victor Olsson. The cover artwork was created by Markus Vesper, who also handled the art on the previous two albums.

The album features a guest appearance from the Swedish pop group One More Time. Its members are the singers Nanne Grönvall, one of the most beloved and popular artists in Sweden, Maria Rådsten and Peter Grönvall, the son of ABBA's Benny Andersson, on keyboards.

Their first single Highland, 1992, hit the charts all around in Europe. In 1995 they composed a song for the Swedish Melodifestivalen, "Det Vackraste" that won a grammy for best song of the year, and in 1996 they won the Swedish Melodifestivalen and represented Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest with their song "Den Vilda", which ended in 3rd place.

Gathering Of Kings are the successful project built by Ron & Nina Dahlgren, bringing together top musicians from the current hard rock scene in Sweden. The idea was to create an AOR/Melodic Hard Rock project/band like Tom Galley's Phenomena or even Tobias Sammet's Avantasia, with multiple vocalists and instrumentalists. Victor Olsson quickly became the main songwriter.

The superlatives have hailed over Gathering Of Kings, which takes you straight back to the golden age of 80's melodic hard rock and it is without a doubt one of the hottest acts in Sweden, now with two critically acclaimed records in the bag and the third album, "Enigmatic", will be released in July.

After the debut album "First Mission", Ron & Nina remodelled Gathering Of Kings from being a project to becoming a band with permanent members.

  • My Little Pony

This band was fast becoming a joke with the lead up to the first album with, what felt like, years of announcements pertaining to all the "Kings" they had gathered. I'm glad it not only became a proper outfit, but that their output has been so solid.

Verses are cool, chorus is a bit too basic and predictable. This is the kind of song that is elevated by the production. A demo of that would reveal a pretty bland songwriting. And I don't like the singer's voice. Sounds a bit shaky. Still looking forward to the album cause they use to have some diamonds on every album.

Camped  outside spotify's HQ the whole day, cannot stop spinning this monster! Finally, they managed to release a real  successor to the  magnum opus "First Mission" ( can't see it toping it though).

    • I first heard this a few years ago, and it has probably been discussed on here before but the search function throws up everything when you search for Jani or Serial Killer. I had liked the song The one that got away on Alice Coopers Along came a spider album, and one day a few years ago I found out it was originally an unreleased Jani Lane song. Being a huge Jani fan I have just been wishing that all the unreleased stuff I have heard over the years would get a remaster and a proper release as he was one hell of a song writer and singer. This though sounds fully produced. Also found an old interview from 2010 where Jani discussed working with Alice on his (then) upcoming Welcome 2 my nightmare album, but sadly looking at the writing credits, they went in a different direction as there are no Jani writing credits. I wonder if there are any unreleased Alice Cooper songs from those writing sessions?
    • Yeah true mine came with the card too - no. 304

    • Popping back in to plug a damn fine album by a damn fine group.  Came out this Friday and I can't stop listening to it. These Swedes have been on an upward trajectory since their debut in 2017. This is already their 4th album. The last one, Rambler, was very good so I thought it would be hard to top, but they have succeeded by a considerable margin.  Black Paisley take their influences from the classic 80s hard/heavy rock genre, with a tinge of modern vibes. Guitarist Franco Santunione joined for the Rambler album and he was a real shot in the arm.  This is riffy, melodic, head bop inducing stuff.  Everything is excellent on this album, but a few songs stick out even more IMO, and they are Set Me Free, In the Night, World's Turning, Silent Asylum and Crazy.  If you haven't checked these fellas out, you really should.  I don't know how to embed Spotify or YT links, so if someone nice could help out, it would be greatly appreciated.
    • Pretty decent... not mad about it.
    • Nice. I like it a lot. And yeah, very good quality for a demo.
    • Didn't know what to make of that one so I actually checked out another song from them-   So they are a rock band... just not really sure what to make of them. Sounds a bit thin, and dare I actually say it, but can something be over-produced? Not sure if that's just me listening on a laptop, though. But I'm moderately intrigued.
    • Wow, hook line and sinker with the first song alone. Magnificent. Will check out asap.
    • Some more tunes from the new album:
