I expect to be disappointed. For some reason this band has never resonated with me.

Agree. Aside a song here or there. Same goes for WOA, and Degreed, just not my thing.

One of my favorite modern AOR bands. I've liked almost everything they've done which is quite the accomplishment these days.

But yes, I really hope it doesn't have the same production as the Kiss of Life re-recording...

New lyric video for 'Grit Your Teeth'.

From Frontiers:

Buckle up and hold tight, VEGA are back with the album of their career. “Grit Your Teeth” will take you to screaming highs and gritty lows. It’ll keep you coming back for more.

Says the band’s lead singer and frontman, Nick Workman, “Selfishly, we’ve taken a few risks by recording an album, that, first and foremost, we can be proud of. Don’t try and tag it with any sub-genre of rock or metal, just enjoy it.”

“Nick’s right, says VEGA’s keyboardist, James Martin. “We set out to do something different on this album. We wanted to stand out from the rest of the pack.”

“The band agreed on making a more modern sounding and edgy record," reflects VEGA’s drummer, Martin Hutchinson. "I think we definitely achieved that.”

“I think it’s our best album yet,” adds guitarist Mikey Kew.

If the last album, “Only Human”, was a commentary of what was going on our lives. The new album is very much a reflection of those times and the outcomes. It’s a very positive album in its overall message, but it also has a lot of dark moments. It was very therapeutic for the band to write and record the album.

VEGA’s love for love rock from the 80’s and early 90’s shines through without rehashing it. Their inspiration comes from the 80’s and 90’s (they even have a Miami Vice drum roll), however, the album also draws inspiration from other places, and dragged into 2020.

VEGA wrote the album from January 2019 until they started recording in August 2019. The album was recorded in an industrial unit in York with the Graves Brothers who have previously produced Asking Alexandria. That is more the “metal” side of the album and was a perfect fit for VEGA as they wanted to blend melody and hooks with power.

“Joe and Sam Graves did a great job producing the album. They knew exactly what the band were trying to achieve,” says Workman. Tracking finished by September 2019. Mixing and mastering was completed before Christmas.

Says VEGA’s bass player, Tom Martin - “This is stadium rock for 2020.”

LINE-UP
Nick Workman (Vocals)
Martin Hutchison (Drums)
Marcus Thurston (Guitar)
Michael Kew (Guitar)
Tom Martin (Bass)
James Martin (Keyboards)

I listened to the playstore samples and my first impression was, they wrote the same song 11 times😅 so the first single is pretty representative

Yeah it sounds great but I'm missing the keyboards. I hope this song isn't representative of the rest of the album, tbh.

Sadly, I don't think much of the song, but recruiting fellas that have produced albums for Asking Alexandria - regardless of what you might think of that band - is huge.

I wonder if it's just a coincidence that it sounds great now that Harry Hess' name isn't mentioned anywhere?

Jeez I wish the song was better, though.

song is perfectly fine and sounds like Vega

They do manage to throw up a couple of fillers on every album that sound similar to this, and this is certainly one, but I'm assuming the usual majority of melodic rockers will still be available.

    • Originally recorded for, but not included on "Reckless"... ...the song has since been included on the 30th anniversary reissue of the album.
    • "Monster"     "Killer Katharina"   "Party Rock Anthem"   "Hard Times"
    • I'd put them in the same bracket as Ghost. Complete rip off, although the album is good.
    • Tokyo Blade to release a new album in January 2025. It’s titled Time is the Fire with the release date slotted for 17th January via Dissonance Productions. Tokyo Blade go all the way back to 1982 and were in the thick of the then emerging New Wave of British Heavy Metal with their self-titled debut album appearing in 1983 quickly followed in 1984 by the classic Night of the Blade. That album gained much momentum for the band however after that it seemed as though the law of diminishing returns applied with the success of Night of the Blade not being capitalised on. Despite many line-up changes over the years allied with periods of inactivity and reformations, the band has continued and over recent years released four albums since 2018, the last of which was Fury in 2022. And now we have Time is the Fire to look forward to in January 2025 which will comprise of fourteen new songs. Time is the Fire is available for pre-order from Cherry Red with all sorts of different formats available including CD and coloured double vinyl. If you fancy pre-ordering: https://www.cherryred.co.uk First single "Don't Bleed Over Me" out now...

    • Haha, thanks mate. I'm pretty fond of that one too.  I think I've said it a few times in this thread, but I don't think AI is a threat to "real" music whatsoever. Sorry, I know I'm repeating myself, but I could see a world where it has a significant impact on dance music and music that is already, for lack of a better term, created artificially anyway.  And I am amazed by, and love what it can do with rock/metal music, but it's still got nothing on what a group of four or five like-minded individuals can come up with, or most notably, a song-writer with a great voice. Or even a good voice.  I have some deeper cuts in my newer material and I am happy enough with the results but it still sounds like AI emotive, absolutely no comparison at all to a real dude pouring his heart out with his own delivery and melodic structure, straight from a songwriter's brain. And as cool as the music is, you listen to a heap of AI and then you put on just one or two top-end favourite bands and you're all like, oh, yeah, AI definitely can't do that. All the intricacies like guitar and drum fills, vocal hooks and melodies... if anything AI music has given me more appreciation for great artists. On the flip-side, it makes me view poorer artists in a dimmer light, lol, but it makes me really appreciate the real craftsmen and women a lot more.  lol, speaking of rants.  Ah, I've had this pickle a few times before. I like the chorus better in V1, but the verses better in V2. Usually in this case the chorus (V1) would win out for me.  And hey, thanks for posting these, lol. I was playing them and looked to the side of my screen and noticed I had 50 credits!! Bonus. I wouldn't have checked otherwise. So I guess even if you run out, you still get the standard daily 50 credits that even free users get. Gotta admit, that's a bit of a relief as 14 more days of nothing was going to be tough. And at last 50 keeps me well limited too. I might not even get one keeper song with 50 credits the way I've been going recently.
