Ghost - Rats

Recommended Posts

I found out that they're from Sweden but haven't heard of these guys before. Anyway, the new song is pretty awesome.

I've heard a couple songs of theirs in the past, but never really got into them.  From what I've seen, their songs revolve around Satan as do their costumes and stage shows.  Kind of like a modern version of King Diamond, but more tongue in cheek, and more diverse musically

Great band...Quite varied style wise, with a heady mix of Pop/Rock/Doom Metal with big, hooky choruses and a definite Sabbath,  Blue Oyster Cult reference in their sound. Here's another brilliant track from their 4th album 'Prequelle' released on Friday

This new track is catchy and has far more of a pop feel than the songs I've heard.  I recall them being heavier and more theatrical with a much darker lyrical theme like Mercyful Fate/King Diamond.

These fellas are the clowns of the doom rock camp. Nobody talks about Blood Ceremony or Devil Electric but this band. As for me I fuckin' hate this pop garbage. :)

I've never listened to them until I heard this song, and I actually like it. Not what I imagined they should sound like at all. So I tried to check them out a bit, but they are confusing the hell out of me. How many personalities does the singer have? He's been four popes and now he is a cardinal?

Been spinning the new album pretty much continuously over the past couple of days..These guys get better and better with each subsequent release, with  'Prequelle' being absolutely top notch all the way through. It's more  varied, 'accessible' and dare I say it 'poppy' than previously, but that is no bad thing in my book. Definitely one of the best this year by far and a quite superb album

Really? I was just about to look into checking them out, but you suggest these two are the only decent songs on the album?

I like these two songs, but something about them keeps me at a distance. But I'm still curious.

it's a grower but those are the 2 most accessible tracks for me.

I do like the song about death as well even if it is morbid

Haven't listened to the new album in its entirety, but Meliora has some great songs.

It's rare that I listen to a whole album in one sitting nowadays but Prequelle holds my interest throughout. Will defo give some of their other albums a listen

And now... the most epic thing ever: a synthwave remix of Dance Macabre. As much as I love the new Ghost album, I would kill for this sort of remix on more Ghost tracks.

    • The vocals really do not suit this track.
    • Thanks mate. You're spot on about DeGarmo.
    • Stephen Pearcy - View to a Thrill   And then... Core Leoni - The Greatest Hits Part 1
    • Seems to mainly stem from finanacial issues and from what can be read into it, the other members probably felt like Tate had TOO MUCH control over what the band was doing both musically and financially (especially with several of his family members involved with band operations); everything just finally boiled over. Here's an interview with Geoff Tate from June 2012 giving his side of things: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/qa-geoff-tate-on-queensryches-ugly-split-backstage-brawl-in-brazil-102316/   And then here's the other side from the other members: https://ultimateclassicrock.com/remaining-queensryche-members-accuse-geoff-tate-of-financial-wrongdoing-violence/   DeGarmo leaving in 1998 was the beginning of the end musically (IMO anyway) as the releases after that became darker and way less melodic, with only the occasional  exception (song wise).   I know alot of people really like the band now, with LaTorre on vocals, and the recent releases, but it's all I can do to get through them. The muscianship is top notch, the vocals are great, but there's just something missing... the songs just aren't memorable to me. I've listened to The Verdict on and off for the last week, and can't remember a single chorus. The only reason I picked The Verdict in this poll is because The New Reality by Tate's Operation: Mindcrime is DREADFUL.   At least on the releases prior to that one, you could count on 2-3 decent songs on a Tate release, and his stuff is definitely more melodic than what Ryche has been doing... to my ears at least.
    • Since Q2K I haven't really given many spins to either party. From what I have heard though, I think the output from Queensryche has been better. Although, they were only able to achieve this by getting a Geoff Tate emulator (Todd La Torre was an inspired choice BTW). I'm sure it's very complicated, but does anyone know in a nutshell, what caused the falling out in the first place? Such a shame when you have these rifts among long term successful bands. It seems to be pretty common though. Money and Ego are the two main factors, I'm sure.
    • Undrask - Battle Through Time Rockett Love - Grab The Rocket
    • Nice, two albums that were in need of reissues, in my opinion.   One with Rob Rock and the other with Jerome Mazza on vocals
