One song albums

Something I was thinking about on the coach home from work yesterday and I thought might get a bit of discussion going. Are there any albums you have with one real stand out song? One track that is heads and shoulders better than the rest and kicks several shades of sh*t out of the others? I don't mean albums that are so awful that the only song that is vaguely listenable stands out - the song in question has to be pretty awesome; a real favourite.

There are bound to be wildly differing views. I just thought it would be interesting to see what tracks people choose.

I appreciate there may be a similar thread, so apologies if this is a duplication, but I can find one.

Some that spring to mind for me:

  •
  • 101 South - Nobody Moves a Mountain (101 South)
  • Burning Tree - Mistreated Lover (Burning Tree)
  • Grand Illusion - Gotta Give It Up (View From The Top)
  • Urgent - Running Back (Cast The First Stone)
  • Ratt - As Good As It Gets (Infestation)
  • Strangeways - So Far Away (Native Sons)
  • Johnny Crash - Hey Kid (Neighbourhood Threat)
  • Mark Spiro - My Devotion (Devotion)
  • Westworld - When I Come Home(Cyberdreams)
  • Dare - Wings of Fire (Blood From Stone)
  • Kip Winger - Resurrection (Songs From The Ocean Floor)

Good call, I'd definitely have included that in my list if I'd thought of it.

Wow :o totally disagree, I consider Tyketto's debut to one of the best and most consistent albums in hard rock history.

Hansel - Murder 101 (Never Say Die)

I also think that WINGS is on the same level. Love both of them the same.

This is kind of hard. Because, you can just be picking your fav from that cd.

How about:

Dokken, In My Dreams-Under Lock And Key. Love the cd as a whole, but is the obviously "the best song on it".

Scorpions, No One Like You-Backout

I have two albums that actually are both good albums, and have some really good songs on them, but on both albums there is one song that stands out so much that I would probably classify as being on my top 100 songs of all time.

The Storm - I've got a lot to learn about love (from The Storm)

Skull - Head over heels (from No bones about it)

Honestly, as much as I like both those albums, I would be more than happy to give up every other song on both those albums, just to keep those two.

I agree, both cd's are good, but those are stand out tracks!

Wowser... I was going to do this thread the other day. But "properly." ;) I mean albums which are just shithouse in every way, except for that one magic track. I'll be able to list a bunch, but probably at home. A few starters:

Cheap Trick - 'The Flame' (from their 1988 album)

George Lynch - 'We don't own this world'... okay, and 'Necessary Evil' (off the 'Sacred Groove' disc)

Vicious Rumours - 'When love comes down' (from 'Welcome to the ball' ; not a bad album, just boring/average metal otherwise)

Banshee - 'Missing you' (from 'Race against time' ; again, not essentially a bad CD... just average metal otherwise)

John Norum - 'Resurrection time' (from 'Another Destination')

Evans Blue - 'Bulletproof' (from the s/t album)

FM - 'Crack Alley' (from 'Takin' it to the streets')

Hurtsmile - 'Slave'

There are really millions out there... hard to think of them off the top of my head.

Tyketto CD is one of the best of all time and Forever Young is a classic, the other tracks aren't far behind it.

How about:

- Thunderstruck from AC/DC - Razor's Edge

- The Dogs Are Talking from The Angels - Beyond Salvation

- Can You Feel It from Manic Eden - Manic Eden

- Love Is Pain from Virgin Steele - Life Among The Ruins

- The Traveller from Symbols - Call To The End

Lastly, most Stratovarius CDs have 1 or 2 ball tearers (except Visions IMO) and the rest filler.

An obvious one is The Vu - Keys To The City is about the only track I ever listen to & it's great!

The only one I really liked off that one was 'Who You Gonna Believe?'.

- Thunderstruck from AC/DC - Razor's Edge

Great tune, personally I much prefer the title track off that one.

Few more from me:

The Storm - You Keep Me Waiting (The Storm)

Asphalt Ballet - Tuesday's Rain (Asphalt Ballet)

Diving for Pearls - You're All I Know (Diving for Pearls)

Renegade - Hold Back The Night (Time To Choose)

Frontline - Over and Out (The State of Rock)

Diving for Pearls - You're All I Know (Diving for Pearls)

Wow mate, you've already come up with a few ball-tearers but that takes the cake. Killer song, as are all 6 of the first 6 songs. My fave is 'Never on Monday' but the other 5 are only a testicle whisker behind. IMO, of course.

'Wish you still were mine' - 9.0 (Title track also good but this one really stood out)

'The only one' - Blackfish ('If I' was nice too, but this one's worth the price of 10 CDs alone)

'Broken Road' - 12 Stones (from 'Anthem of the Underdog')

'If this is the end of the world' - AM Radio (from 'Radioactive')

'Angel' - Any Day Now (from 'Millenium')

'(You've got a grip) On my heart' - Atello (from 'The big payoff')

'In another life' - Attraction 65

'One small choice' - Audiovent (from 'Dirty sexy nights')

'Love doesn't know any distance' - Axxis (from 'The big thrill')

I don't disagree - it isn't a bad album, but I think that song is light years ahead of the others. An absolute classic.

    • New album 'Stereo Crush' coming early next year through their new label Reigning Phoenix Music. More details to come....
    • From Escape Music: In 2019 the debut album “Attitude” by Lonerider was released, a band that not only features Steve Overland (FM, Solo, Shadowman), Steve Morris (Heartland, Shadowman) and Chris Childs (Thunder) but legendary drummer Simon Kirke of Free and Bad Company fame. The band come across like Bad Company mixed with Shadowman and their debut “Attitude” was loved by many. Lonerider have the feel of that classic Bad Company that we know and love, yet the songs are modern, fresh and vibrant.  In 2022, the follow up album titled “Sundown” was released boasting 12 new tracks of classic rock in the same vein as “Attitude”, well why change a winning formula? The band have continued to attract new fans and they have all been eagerly awaiting a third outing and it’s due for release in November, 2024. The album “Down in the Dust is released on 15th November in both CD and limited edition (500 all numbered) double vinyl. The Vinyl will have 3 bonus tracks. This is an extension of what this exciting band have already given us, and it just keeps getting better. The addition of Steve Mann (Lionheart / MSG) adds so much with that Hammond organ vibe, giving it an “old school” feel and yet the band continues to expand on fresh ideas and melodies. There are no fillers here. Once again, the Lonerider lineup excel themselves in giving us another fine release.  Track List: 01 Shiver (4:22)  02 Three Steps Back (4:34)  03 Getting Closer (4:35)  04 Help Me Brother (3:59) 05 Gypsy of the Highway (5:17)  06 Brokendown Town (5:19)  07 Mystery Man (4:39)  08 Cool Hand (4:24)  09 Back Behind The Wheel (4:23)  10 Long Game (3:42) 11 Actions Speak Louder Than Words (4:03)  12 All Fired Up (3:57)  Vinyl Bonus tracks 13 Chasing Rainbows (3:47)  14 Blue Collar Man (4:33) 15 Lost and Found (4:03)
    • I'll look forward to album...nearest to Krokus we'll get at the minute by the looks of it.
    • Thanks...probably without the guitar player from interview then?
    • I don't even see the point of the videos as they are not even long enough to make money off of as as far as I know, to do that you need to make videos at least 10 mins long, and these are not posted in the shorts section. No effort made either, with a computer generated voice reading the script.
    • There's a new band called Hellbiter. 3 or 4 members of them are from Cobrakill. So it's more of a name change than a break up.
    • Don Broco - Bruce Willis (2021). A couple of years old now, but it just popped up on my Youtube recommendations.  It's pretty awesome... ..."Yippy ki-yay Motherfucker".
    • Roll Over Lay Down - Status Quo
