Latest acquisition...

 

Deliverance: s/t (2008 reissue)

How ya likin' that one boss? The remastering job is excellent.

It's growing on me...kind of like that fungus on the bottom of my left testic...uh, never mind. I was familiar with "Weapons of our Warfare," but had never actually heard the debut (aside from "Victory" and "Jehovah Jireh"), so it was all "new" to me, and after my first spin I was kind of unsure how much I liked it (if that makes any sense). I still think "Weapons..." is much better, but the self-titled definitely has some cool speed/thrash tunes...and a couple of not-so-cool ones. Whether or not it stays in my collection remains to be seen, but regardless, major props to Retroactive Records for their bang-up job reissuing these Christian metal classics; the remastering on both discs is nothing short of phenomenal.

I was into "the D" as soon as the first album came out so it and the WEAPONS disc have always been neck-and-neck for me. It's hard to pick a favorite from the two, even after all these years. Although since I've gotten the reissues of both I've been playin' the hell out of the debut, so it may finally come out on top.

Is the The Used the screamo band?

Their debut had a lot of screaming on it, but killer songs. The second disc didn't have much screaming but had really melodic/commercial hard rock songs. 'Lies for the liars' again doesn't have much screaming on it. In fact, it's got a pretty killer hard rock groove going on this disc. Try to listen to 'Pretty handsome awkward' on Youtube and tell me that's anything other than pure hard rock. The riff will hook you right away.

 

One thing I noticed about Staryder's list when he posted it, was that he has at least as big a collection of modern rock as I do.
