What's a spinnin' in your CD player?

Rainbow’s final studio album in the 80’s, ”Bent Out Of Shape” (1983), was also their last one with Joe Lynn Turner (ex. Fandango) as the lead vocalist. He did an impeccable job with his high tenor voice on this more keyboard oriented, commercial or AOR sounding release that also featured its fair share of straight ahead, uptempo, melodic hard rockers. As a very selective (and sometimes hard to work with) guitarist, songwriter and band leader, it was obvious that Blackmore had found an almost perfect co-writing partner and top class singer in Turner. However, at the very brink of breaking through on a big scale with Rainbow, he just couldn’t resist or refuse the temptation to join Gillan, Glover, Paice and Lord in the reformed Deep Purple Mk II, where he would spend the following ten (somewhat turbulent) years. Finally, when it comes to ”Bent Out Of Shape”, Foreigner seems to have been an inspiration as for how some songs were constructed and performed, however, clearly with Blackmore’s special guitar playing touch and style throughout. Review by Thomas T. Hansson 2023.

Vintage 1980 Pomp Rock with violin, on the Kirshner label. At times reminiscent of Kansas, Styx, Airborne and Trillion.
