I like how Force Majeure is his number 7, currently. Is he from the future? Or are promo copies already circulating?

Yeah and he has Diamond Star Halos in there too  :) I'm hoping future...then we can get more info off him ;)

At the halfway point it is probably a good time to do a top 5 of the year so far.

For me it is:

Crashdiet - Automaton (gets better with each listen)

Kissin' Dynamite - Not the End of the Road (an early contender)

John Elefante - The Amazing Grace

Bloody Heels - Rotten Romance

The Cruel Intentions - Venomous Anonymous

* note I still have a big list of new releases to pick up that may change this.

2.  Crashdiet - Automaton

3.  Def Leppard - Diamond Star Halos

4.  Degreed - Are You Ready

5.  Black Swan - Generation Mind

H.E.A.T, Shiraz Lane and Skid Row are probably the releases I'm most looking forward to in the second half of the year.

Only just got the Iconic album... dah-um! For a project group that's a smoking slab of bluesey hard rock. Like a reviewer said, sounds like Whitesnake, in a good way.

does anyone know if these have a release date yet or are likely to be 2022 ?

Defiants

Harem Scarem

ModX

Threshold

🍺👍

Harem Scarem and Threshold are looking like 2023.

I know Harry and Pete were taking a bit of a break, as Harry was moving his studio, and Pete said that they weren't feeling inspired at the moment.

I have no idea what happened to the Threshold album; from what I could tell it was pretty much finished at the end of 2021, and slated to be released first half of 2022, but nary a peep about it.  Is it a vinyl shortage thing?

re threshold I think he is just going in to record vocals, might still be 2022 🤞

Other reviews are stating the bad production is only on 2-3 songs and has been overemphasised by criticism.

Well, the bad production is there throughout, but like I said in the Journey thread, hidden beneath it is a decent album, particularly if you drop your least favorite 3-4 songs from the running order. Regardless, I’ve seen a lot of positive reviews for the album out there, so it’s obviously not a big issue for some folks. 🤷‍♂️

Great production can’t save a bad song, but bad production can drag a great song down a bit unfortunately.

On a different note, I always like watching Brendon’s stuff, as there are usually a handful of releases that I didn’t even know about in his lists. 👍

He is right about the Def Leppard album. I find that it took me 4 listens to fully appreciate it. It's a good album. I could do without the two Alison Krauss tracks, but other than that there are some really good songs deeper in the tracklist. I know it is popular to hatd on the Leps in HH, but I feel people are missing a good album.

If I were to do my 2022 top 5 list right now, Def Leppard are definitely in it…  I find myself enjoying it more and more with each spin.

FYI, the deluxe version of DSH features a Joe only version of “Lifeless”. I don’t mind the version with Alison Krauss, but I absolutely can NOT get into “This Guitar”; it’s the lone song that I usually skip.

Same here.

The Krauss tracks are well done and "nice" songs I guess but they do zero for me and are easy skips.  And the two piano ballads (Goodbye for Good This Time and Angels) are basically the same....nice songs, but pretty boring and ultimately skips for me.

I'm good with the rest though and feel like the album flows way better when those 4 songs are lopped out.

Early hitters for me (only in alphabetical order because I have to remember what came out this year by sorting):

Crashdïet - Automaton

City of LIghts - Before the Sun Sets

Cleanbreak - Comning Home

Spirits of Fire - Embrace the Unknown

Fatal Vision - Once

Iconic - Second Skin

Lionville - So Close to Heaven

And of course, new efforts from H.E.A.T, Sunstorm (despite the fact that I think they should have just started a new project around Ronnie Romero all together), Generation Radio, Shiraz Lane, Skid Row with Erik Grönwall, and the Defiants are all ones I'm also looking forward to

Ahh haven't listened to Crashdiet yet. Will have to check that out.

The Defiants is the one I am really really looking forward to. A bit too early to say this but am pretty sure their new one will most likely finish as my fave album of 2022, as with their previous two albums the year they were released.

I'm a bit ashamed to say I never really gave their sophomore album a fair shake. Not sure why, but I still haven't really listened to it properly.

But since Danger Danger is one of my favorite bands and Rob Marcello is... well, Rob Marcello, it's hard not to be excited about the forthcoming record anyway.

    • I grew up listening to Cuntry, and have kinda wanted to get back into it. But not the typical New Cuntry shit. So I'll give this a try.
    • I always forget about this band, and then I listen to them and am like, "Oh, yeah, they're good!" And then forget about them for another year.
    • I was a pretty big fan. Nature Of The Beast is a killer song. Saw them with Dave Gleeson from the Screaming Jets singing and he did an amazing job, but pretty sure they have a new singer now  I recently went through the two most recent albums before this one and there were a couple of ok tracks, but mostly mid. Fun fact: I saw the Angels a couple of years before Doc died at the Middle hotel in Ferntree Gully and they seemed to hate each other. Pretty sure Doc said nothing to the crowd all night. Fun fact 2: when they were building the transit bar in Melbourne, a mate and I found a service elevator that went to the roof, which was under construction. After peeing off the roof, which is always fun, we realised that we could clearly hear the music 5 or 6 floors below from a DJ I think. He was playing Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again. We started yelling down the No Way Get Fucked, Fuck Off bit thinking we were hilarious. Then soon we noticed people looking up, and for some reason they seemed to be clearly hearing us. Another mate then called us to tell us security were on the way up the stairs so we took the service elevator down and managed to laugh it off. Stoopid drunk story I guess, but fun days.
    • Cheeky, getting your artwork in there. I wonder how you did that.  I like the vocal track on #1 and that'd be my pick. I personally don't dig the female versions of songs, because I'm not a female (yet?) and as these are songs written by ourselves I personally feel the best interpretation is an AI dude voice taking the place of your dude voice.
    • Yeah, that's great but this is obviously an accomplished musician probably completely in control of this output... not done with Suno, I'd bet. There's definitely dudes out there who are perfectly capable of doing their own music, like this dude, but for whatever reason might not be able to put a project together, again, for whatever reason... but this definitely feels a lot more like AI feeling in the missing gaps for someone otherwise in complete control of what he wants.  Either way, it is very cool indeed.  As Darkstone says, I'm not sure paying is the way to get the best results. I'm also not saying it isn't, especially with other platforms that are not Suno. I think already knowing what you're doing, musically, is the best way to get best results, personally. Suno, for example, is just perfect for someone who might enjoy writing lyrics but is not in any way shape or form an accomplished (or even adequate, lol) musician.  But yeah, it's pretty cool for some fun. I'm not sure if you checked out my links above. Keeping them pretty quiet due to lyrical content, lol, but you might dig some of the stuff in my links. 'As the moment passes by' and 'I'll wait for you' are two of my personal faves. Along with 'Faith to fall.'
    • Yeah, musically it's what you want, but vocally... Maybe Alex should take some vocal lessons from Ken Tamplin. ;}
    • Your Eyes - Darkstone (2024) Two versions of my song number 6     https://suno.com/song/e8c1e85b-21ee-4d35-a64b-e786f00944d2   https://suno.com/song/9144c77a-bd7c-49c1-9508-f724d0832fdb
    • Yep, although I was never a massive fan.
    • Yes, celebrating their fifty years. There only two original members left in the band. Dusty might agree with me the Angels died when the original singer passed away.
