"In what promises to be Stryper front-man Michael Sweet’s most intense solo release to date, “One Sided War” showcases a full plate of hard rock & classic metal riffs from start to finish. One Sided War marks Michael’s 7th studio solo album and it clearly proves that he is still at the very top of his game! “I’ll tell you about it”, says Michael, “Musically it’s my heaviest solo album. It’s not thrash metal but there are definitely some songs on there that will pop out at you. There are some songs that have a bit of the Iron Maiden / Dio feel to them, as well as some songs that have a little bit of a Van Halen influence to them. It’s a very guitar-oriented, hard rock/metal album with lots of melodies and hooks!

Surrounding himself in the studio with Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra, Evanescence drummer Will Hunt, bassist John O’Boyleand East Coast shred-master Ethan Brosh, Michael began creating what would soon be known as “One Sided War”. Michael states “Originally I planned on showcasing my own guitar playing; I was going to do it all myself, but once I brought Joel & Ethan into the picture, things began to take a new direction and I am very happy with what we have accomplished”. Says Ethan Brosh about working with Michael, "He's one of those guys who have always been at the top of their game and has just never lost it and for me to be a part of this is very special". Joel Hoekstra comments "Michael and I actually go back to my time in Night Ranger when we opened for him when he was playing with Boston. Ever since then we've just been kind of collaborating and this is sort of a natural evolution getting to play on a few songs on his solo album".

The fast and furious opener “Bizarre” ignites the album’s pace with it's lightning fast riffage, soaring vocals and blazing guitar solos. Tracks like “Can’t Take This Life”, “One Sided War”, "Golden Age", “I Am” and “Comfort Zone” keep the metal fires ablaze, while tracks like “Radio”, “One Way” and “You Make Me Wanna” bring the hard rock vibe to the forefront . “One Sided War” features only one ballad, “Who Am I?”, a heartfelt, passionate song that reminds us of the softer side of Michael’s talents. Closing out the disc is a bonus track; it’s a different version of the song “Can’t Take This Life”, a duet with Michael and 16 year old up-and-coming female vocalist Moriah Formica. If you are a fan of Michael Sweet / Stryper or a fan of classic Hard Rock & Metal in general “One Sided War” is an absolute must have, you won’t be disappointed! Official release date is August 26, 2016" Press release from Rat Pak Records

Give me All This And Heaven Too over this.

Pretty much Stryper music, which is OK, but I seem to have moved from the screaming Michael Sweet vocals.

I haven't listened to the above clip, but there's no reason to believe this won't be good. Michael Sweet's been on a roll lately.

It actually sounds pretty decent.

Just not the type of music I'm interested in much at the moment.

Will keep Stryper fans who like the heavier stuff very happy...

Aside from due appreciation of the excellent level of musicianship on offer on those two songs, as well as liking the almost 'Against The Law'-esque backing vocals on 'Bizarre' I actually find both songs pretty throw-away. Reminds me of Dynazty. Well played, but I'm left bored and uninterested by both songs.

Hmmm, that's an odd one. Michael Sweet doesn't really strike me as a man of humour, but I'll pay him this one. Probably because it's so unexpected, I dig it. Nice one.

I follow Michael on FB and he does have a fairly subtle (most of the time), dry sense of humor... which unfortunately goes over a lot of people's heads, judging by some of the comments he gets.

Awhile ago a fan asked him "what's your favorite Christian rock band?" and he replied "Black Sabbath"... predictably, the Bible Camp contingent went CRAZY on him, haha! :rofl2:

Cool song and vid. Kicking myself for missing the preorder of the album on Amazon at $7.00.

No joke, I loves me some banjo especially incorporated in a killer rock song (see Uncle Tom's Cabin) but this is the first time I've seen anyone make a banjo look bad ass!

    • From FaceBook   Midnite City     · IT'S OFFICIAL! We have now started work on what will become our fourth album which will be coming your way in 2023. The songs are written and the work has begun. As with our previous albums, it's never a quick process. We have a long journey ahead of us, but the work starts now! Look out for lots of studio updates
    • This is a good one. The Deluxe Edition from MelodicRock Classics looks interesting. See below:
    • New songs. From Frontiers: Frontiers Music Srl is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of Perfect Plan's third studio album, "Brace For Impact". Over the course of their first two albums, "All Rise" and "Time For A Miracle", the Swedes have quickly established themselves as a new gold standard in not only the Scandinavian melodic rock genre, but the melodic rock genre as a whole. "Brace For Impact" does nothing to slow that momentum and fans should do exactly as the album's title says in preparation for their latest opus.  Produced by the band, songwriting started in August 2021 for "Brace For Impact" and was wrapped up by the end of the year. The band then spent January of this year working on arrangements and pre-production work before starting the process of recording in the first week of February. Asked about the musical direction of the album, vocalist Kent Hilli says, "Well, hard question...we didn’t think too much about that when we started writing as we want everything to come naturally to us. All we focused on and wanted to do was to write really great melodic rock songs with great riffs and melodies. But I think we have more ”rockers” on this album than before. I would say that it's melodic rock in general, but maybe slightly harder than our previous albums. But much like our second album, ”Time For A Miracle” we have a great mixture between hard rock, melodic rock, and AOR in there...and some songs even have some elements of progressive rock and some bluesier elements mixed in also. And we have just one ballad on this album. Our goal when writing an album is that it should feel like playing songs on a jukebox and I think we have succeeded with that on this album. Everything sounds like PERFECT PLAN 3.0, really! I think we have definitely pushed everything up a notch from songwriting and lyrics to arrangements and overall performance and sound. With the addition of the great Tobias Lindell who does the mixing…everything sounds really big and majestic I think!" Sometimes the stars align and create a perfect balance of talent within a group. A band like Perfect Plan is the “perfect" (pun intended) example of that: a superb singer, a well-oiled band of experienced players, and a great songwriting talent with a knack for unforgettable melodies and driving rhythms. Add to that the right single released at the right time and Perfect Plan’s emergence as immediate rising stars on the melodic rock scene is no surprise. The song that “built” their reputation is of course the awesome “In and Out of Love,” the first single/video that kicked off the promotion of the band’s 2018 debut album “All Rise,” released on Frontiers in April of that year. The band followed their debut album with the sophomore release "Time For A Miracle" in 2020. Hyperbole aside, it was a major step forward across the board. Opting for a slightly heavier and more “in your face” sound, Perfect Plan matured and created an outstanding balance of melodies and energy, with the obvious references to the sound of the classics (think Foreigner, Survivor, The Storm, Giant, etc.) and Scandinavian AOR with a recognizable and personal feel. So, after a stunning debut and sticking the landing with their second album, what does Perfect Plan have up their sleeve for an encore? Well, all we can say is..."Brace For Impact”! Tracklisting: 1. Surrender 2. If Love Walks In 3. Can’t Let You Win 4. Gotta Slow Me Down 5. Stop The Bleed 6. My Angel 7. Devil’s Got The Blues 8. Bring Me A Doctor 9. Still Undefeated 10. Emelie 11. Walk Through Fire Line-Up: Kent Hilli - Lead vocals Rolf Nordström - Guitar Leif Ehlin - Keyboards Fredrik Forsberg - Drums Mats Byström - Bass   https://perfectplan.se facebook
    • Baton Rogue Morgue - Massacre of St. Valentine's Day. Great track despite the clunky chorus. Solid album.
    • I've just posted this "Grim Reaper" retrospective in another thread, but it should be here as well.
    • "Grim Reaper" features this time. I don't know if he had this one in the works, but it's a nice tribute.
    • I would have put Animalize as the middle feature piece as the album cover looks the most "blanketty"
    • My favorite guitarist of all time Rock In Peace  Eddie 🎸
    • The full album's on YouTube.
