Terrible albums from bands who normally are awesome

Recommended Posts

As a polar opposite of my other thread about great releases from bands you don't like. I have this topic, terrible or weak albums from bands you love.

Danger Danger - Dawn (grunge shit! Just a terrible release)

Harem Scarem - Voice Of Reason (way too dark and short on melodies and hooks)

Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (edit this damn release to fit on one disc, too much wasted noise)

Extreme - Waiting For The Punchline (although III Sides was a bit over the top, WFTP was atrocious)

Van Halen - Diver Down (I'm a huge VH fan, but other than Little Guitars this one is almost a lame cover album...they needed to refocus and 1984 was the awesome result. I could have added VH III, but I'll let someone else destroy that poor effort.)

Warrant - Belly To Belly (Ultraphobic still had some great tunes, Belly To Belly didn't)

Wig Wam - Wall Street (they better refind their touch, that was a stinker of a release)

Lillian Axe - Sad Day On Planet Earth (I could sorta handle some of the dark tones of Waters Rising, but SDOPE just killed me with boredom, they sorta recovered somewhat with The Days Before Tomorrow.)

The Wig Wam is a great example of the fall of a powerhouse of recent melodic rock - such a shame.

I'd agree on the Harem Scarem too, although The Paint Thins is awesome!!

I'd add -

Journey - Generations

I thought the D2 disc was one of the best of the sell-out discs. Definitely a disappointment, but I don't despise it.

The Harem Scarem disc is their worst by far, but I absolutely love 'Blue,' 'Breathing Sand' and 'Candle.'

And I do love 'Letter to a friend' on the otherwise terrible Warrant disc.

I agree on all the others. But I'd add all other Lillian Axe CDs post Ron Taylor to this list.

The Wig Wam one is a mighty fall. :(

Not terrible, but hugely disappointing albums from great bands:

Metal Church - Masterpeace

White Lion - Big Game

Carcass - Swansong

Crimson Glory - Strange and Beautiful

House Of Lords-The Power & The Myth (absolute sh*te)

GUN-0141 632 6326 (wtf!!! after the classic Gallus & brilliant Swagger albums)

Diving For Pearls-Texas (another waste of my hard earned cash)

Heartland-anything after wide open for me is not my cuppa tea

Wow, that was a horrible album, and especially horrific after hitting what I believe to be a high point with Bite Down Hard.

yeah Bite Down Hard would be my cd of preference by em also :)

Not their best work, but you'll find my favorite track from each of those bands on those CDs - "Nobody Cares" and "Necessary Evil".

I thought about starting a "Killer Songs on Sucky Albums" thread to mirror the other one with mentions of albums like those, but was kinda afraid of the replies I'd get.

Nah ... why not? Can't hurt (although I'm struggling to think of any examples that would go into your thread).

You're too kind ... but you're forgetting how much I love 'Space Age Playboys', so your Warrior Soul argument is invalid :) I take your point about Megadeth and the Lars Ulrich All-Stars, but I was trying to limit it to one album (the songs for Load and Re-Load were more or less recorded at the same time, so I count 'em as one utterly awful double album) ;)

I'll add a few to my list, though ...

Anything Iron Maiden recorded with Blaze Bayley (sorry, guys - but what WERE you thinking?)

Cradle Of Filth: Vempire

Anthrax: State Of Euphoria (after the brilliance of Among The Living, this was a REAL let-down)

Alice Cooper: Trash (yes, I know it's chock-full of hits, but it's not 'Alice')

I really really hated 'Space Age Playboys', although I wonder if I should give it another spin after all this time...

Good shout on 'State of Euphoria', other than 'Now It's Dark', it's a really boring album.

... but ...

'Trash' is by far the best thing I've ever heard from Alice Cooper! At least 5 killer songs on there ... 'Hey Stoopid' was a big step down afterwards.

'Trash' isn't a bad album ... it's just a VERY weak Alice Cooper album ... I saw him on that tour - the four or five people in front of me clearly didn't know what they were letting themselves in for, 'cause when he wheeled out the guillotine they got up and left :)

My favorite AC album followed by Hey Stoopid,(I like my "hair band" music). I do like older AC, but I would take those 2 albums any day!

Just thought of another one - Celtic Frost's 'Cold Lake', an album SO utterly shite when compared to the rest of their work that I'd very nearly erased all trace of its existence from my mind ... *shudder* ...
