Saigon Kick - Reunion Tour?

Forgive me if this has been discussed but I saw the story of them reuniting with the original lineup in addition to bringing back the second bassist Chris McClernon as a second guitarist. I was a huge fan of the those first four studio albums especially the first two with Kramer singing so hope this does happen and maybe they can make a new album but knowing the friction between Jason and Matt I doubt the good vibes will last beyond a few shows if even that long. Then again maybe everyone has grown up and they can get along now. Also I wasn't sure where to put this and figured Hard Rock fit them better than Heavy Metal but then again they were somewhere between Metal and Alternative so maybe Other would work better.

This is all their Facebook sez about it at the moment: "Saigon Kick will be reuniting with all of the original members Matt Kramer, Phil Varone, Jason Bieler, Tom Defile and Chris McLernon. Dates to be announced shortly."

...not much to go on. A Blabbermouth report on it pretty much just repeats this info with a quote from Matt Kramer about how he's "ready to rock again" or whatever.

This isn't the first time they've talked about getting back together ... and it usually falls apart before anything concrete happens. So I for one ain't holding my breath.

I was fortunate to catch them supporting the Lizard cd and they were REALLY REALLY good live (itty bitty club was a plus)! Oh those harmonies! Still got my Jason guitar pick from the show and the advert poster from the venue.

One would wonder if they could still hit those notes...

If it happened I'd check em out.

Count me amongst those who care. Great band!!! Can Bieler and Kramer coexist for longer than a beer commercial? Who knows? But I believe this is the 20th anniversary of the release of The Lizard which contained their biggest commercial hit so maybe that is a motivating factor. Thought I googled the event and read about them hoping to record some new tunes together if it didn't blow up in their faces first.

Anyone heard Kramer's War and Peas? What's that like?

I really like Saigon Kick, specifically the post-Lizard era more so than the Kramer-fronted era. I would like to hear what they'd come up with in terms of new music, though...Belier is awesome.

Dont hear that every day. I love both eras but to me the Kramer era had more grit and their two voices together was something special.

For me, the debut is pretty much their best, 'The Lizard' is kinda okay but too much grungy thing going on, and after that, it went downhill fast. I found them to be hit and miss for me, although every album did possess several interesting songs, and I prefer Kramer too. BTW, are they going to use a new drummer because as far as I remember, Phil Varone is heavily involved in porn business right ? Rumor has it, he slept with over 3000 women :D

this is last year's news, in case anybody missed it

I had the same question about Phil but all reports have him involved.

Yeah, that usually kinda surprises people. I agree that their voices together are really good...and I do like the Kramer albums...but, to me, the Beiler albums are more layered and varied. I just like the vibe of them...

I remember buying the "Water" release and being surpirsed at how different is was compared to "The Lizard" but I still liked it a lot but it seemed outside of "I Love You" that disc got no love from radio or the media. That disc did have many different flavors with the funky "On and On" and all kinds of different sounds on the title track as well as the awesome cover of "Space Oditiy". "One Step Closer" was very much a classic SK song and was a great lead off track but there are other really good songs on there too like "When You Were Mine", "The Way", "Fields of Rape"(the original title of the album - check out the artwork) and "SGT Steve". After being kind of slighly confused with Water the next release 'Devil in the Details' blew me away and was a little darker and heavier and reminded me of the first two releases more. "Russian Girl", "Killing Ground", "Eden", "Edgar", "All Around", "Flesh and Bone", "Spanish Rain" and "Going On" are my favs but i like them all. When Kramer left the group I remember an article in Metal Edge saying that Jason and Chris Mclernon would do co-lead vocals but that didn't seem to happen except for maybe live but not on the recordings.

This.

Sounded a lot more grungy to me, which put me right off. (A bit like what Mindfunk did after their awesome debut album. Luckily, their third album was pretty good.)

However, going back to the SK debut, this is a fantastic song, one of my favourites of 1991:

Love their first two albums, hate (and sold) the rest. Re-union doesn't interest me at all to be honest because I know that recording something in the style of the first two would have 0% chance of eventuating.
