L.A. Guns vs. L.A. Guns

It's all about the way Phil sings. He sounds like he should be fronting a band like Big Bang Babies or Queeny Blast Pop. He's certainly not a sleaze calibur singer.

Kinda odd since Phil basically helped INVENT the sleaze style... those first two L.A. Guns albums are still so dirty that you feel like you need to wash your hands after listening... :)

Backed...and don't forget the 2 Girl albums..both are great...

Backed, and still the best stuff he has done IMO. There are 3 though, 'Killing Time ' being the 3rd one. :beerbang:

Yeah Girl were excellent...monster big excellent and I agree with Jez..the best stuff he has done, he also shone in Torme on Back to Babylon which is a great album and he did a couple of others as well with the band one live one demo ish quality (but they might have been released after Phil left) ... I was lucky enough to meet him and Chris Hillman (Shark Island) outside on the steps of Rochdale Tiffanys after a Torme gig there (the Queerboys were support...they changed their names afterwards to The Quireboys) but they were both a bit "down" and were deep in discussion until we got the bottle to approach them at which point they cheered up ...they left Torme not long after.

Wow great story Nick. :beerbang:

I'll have to admit that besides the Lillian Axe cover of "My Number" I've never had the pleasure of hearing anything from Girl or Torme for that matter.

Girl were great...one of those bands that you thought were gonna make it but missed out...Jez will probably remember but they were on a couple of real "prime time" TV programmes over here The Old Grey Whistle Test when they did a couple of song in the studio and also on Top of the Pops doing Hollywood Tease.... I thought they were gonna be huge....one of the best bands I ever saw live...I even had their name embroidered on the back of my denim

Yeah mate, remember the TV appearances back in the day and Girl in general with very fond memories. Never reached the heady heights they should have done as you say, which was a real crime compared to some of the 'Shite' that was around at the time. One problem I remember, was due to the of the slight 'Glammy' image and band name, which the hard rockers/NWOBHM crowd didn't take to at all (more fool them), but musically they were a lot tougher than any of the Glam bands of the day and since, but some never gave them the chance. I saw them live a couple of times and they were an awesome band & f*cking rocked the place. Still play all their discs regularly to this day and definately go down as one of my all time fave bands. :beerbang:

This is the only Torme I'm familiar with:

As Bull Shannon once said on "Night Court," "NOBODY can sing the blues like that man!"

  • 2 weeks later...
As most of us know, there are currently two versions of L.A. Guns touring and recording.

I think this is really fucking stupid and IMO Traci lost his right to be in L.A. Guns when he quit his own band.

First off this guy walks out the door after they record one of their best albums(Waking the Dead) and then years later he can't get into any other band and pissed everyone else off so he starts a seperate band also called L.A. Guns.

A point not mentioned here is that Tracii Left L A Guns High N Dry before a HUGE tour...and why did he leave? He left cause he thought that he had gotten the gig for being the "New Guitar Player" in.. LIMP BISCUIT!! Yes LIMP FUCKING BISCUIT...to me that says it all...whata loser..

I think I did mention that huge tour in a different post somewhere on here.

I remember reading about the Limp Bizkit tryout but didn't know it was the same time period.

I always thought that he left cause he figured the Brides were a better gig.

Yeah You did mention it...I meant it as the Reason he left..after he failed to get the LB

gig he tried to go back to LA Guns...but before they made their choice he bolted

for Brides...He had also tried out for RHCP when John Fruscante first left...I see he didn't get that gig either...Tracii must really burn his bridges good....

He also had the Quiet Riot gig for about a week back in 2006.

The thing that pisses me off most about this is I remember reading quotes from him in Metal Edge saying that he fully endorses the band continuing on with a new guitar player and at the time that player looked like it was going to be Chris Holmes. But shortly after they did do some touring with Kerri Kelli and Brent Muscat playing guitar.

here's a good interview with Steven Riley..it sheds a little light on Tracii and his

bridge burning ways..

I had read part of that interview before and he sure does make Tracii sound like a dumbfuck.

Wow, for real? I never heard that Tracii tried out for the L.B. gig. If that's true, then he *is* a loser...

Joining Limp Bizkit probably wouldn't have been the best career move anyway... I mean, does that band even still exist? I think their fifteen minutes have been up for a while. The guy Tracii was trying to replace probably saw the end coming and jumped ship!!

I have a ticket to see L.A.Guns in Tucson next month,it is Tracii's version.I like his playing, but without Phil on vocals, not sure what to expect.Has anyone seen Tracii's version of the band?

Found this clip on of the "Tracii Guns" on YouTube... sound quality isn't great though. I can't say I'm impressed with the vocalist.

It's strange that they'd do "Wheels of Fire" since it was from an album that Paul Black was never involved in in any way. Iwonder if they've gotten sick of doing only songs from the debut and pre s/t club days.

I've listened to songs over at Pauls website and it's just not the same without Phil.

Paul Black = :baneed:

The more I hear about L.A. Guns the more I hate them. I'm starting to wish both bands would disappear so people would shut up about it. They were a second rate band at best and would be no real loss if gone.

Sorry to disagree with you but they were a first rate band IMO.

Their first 3 or 4 albums are essential IMO.

You need to chill out, son. There's more than enough hate in the world already; why waste your energy "hating" a band (or in this case should I say "bands")? Just say "They're not my thing" or "I don't dig'em" and move on. Sheeeeeesh!

    • Not really something that fully appeals to me, but I certainly don't see it as dogshit. If it came on the radio (not that I listen to radio) I certainly would not turn it off or skip it on a playlist.
    • Yeah, this whole thread offends me.
    • I'm liking that first track as well
    • Interesting song choice as far as covering Journey, but they likely wanted to go with a lesser known track.   I'm not a fan of the vocal effects nor the guitar tone.  It's a skip for me, but not as bad as I was expecting after reading the prior comments.

    • Ehh? Is this the same content retitled, or a completely different set of live material?... there's so much wrong with this announcement: This album was previously released as a very-limited CD/DVD.  It sold out instantly.  So we went back in and did a Dolby Atmos remaster/remix of the album, and all new artwork. But CD and DVD don't support Dolby Atmos. That's not a thing. Blu-Ray yes, but not CD or DVD. ALSO - Not only will this be available on streaming platforms but we will soon be announcing the release of Vinyl, CD/DVD, and Cassette.  Yes, you read that right.  Cassette.  Oh - let's talk about the video - the BluRay video has been upgraded to 4K for this release "Upgraded to 4k"... whut? Unless it was reshot using 4K cameras (or was originally shot in 4K but simply authored to blu-ray in SDR) and is completely reauthored to support HDR, a 4K UHD release may not actually be an improvement. Boomers saying boomer things...
    • From the Michael Sweet FB page: You asked for it!  And we listened!  To Hell with the Amps, our acoustic album, is being released worldwide on May 10 to streaming services everywhere.   This album was previously released as a very-limited CD/DVD.  It sold out instantly.  So we went back in and did a Dolby Atmos remaster/remix of the album, and all new artwork.   ALSO - Not only will this be available on streaming platforms but we will soon be announcing the release of Vinyl, CD/DVD, and Cassette.  Yes, you read that right.  Cassette.  Oh - let's talk about the video - the BluRay video has been upgraded to 4K for this release.   There are so many exciting things to come with this release.  Stay tuned here and at Stryper.com We are looking forward to taking this acoustic album on the road starting May 30.
    • May I introduce a Swiss singer who is obviously not yet represented here (perhaps for reasons): Seraina Telli. I don't understand how you can make an official music video in portrait format, but I like the sound. 2015 - 2019: Leader of the metal band Burning Witches with successful European tours. She was a founding member and also co-songwriter on the first two studio albums. Since 2019, she has been touring solo and with her own band Dead Venus. 2022: Debut solo album 'Simple Talk' reaches number 2 in the Swiss charts. She toured Europe with CoreLeoni (fall 2022) and The New Roses (spring 2023). If you're interested, you can check out her YouTube-Channel.
