Kanye West - 808's and Heartbreak

Boys and girls, let me start by saying I know I'm gonna get shit for posting this, but it must be posted. This album is absolute thizz (that's a good thing - thizz)! This is much different from his previous albums, mainly apparent from the absence of any rapping on his behalf. As I recall there was only one guest artist who rapped a verse. I've listened to this a couple times through now, and I'm amazed. It's a dark, heavy compilation of songs dealing with his breakup with his fiance and the death of his mother. The beats are incredible but simple. Kanye said he was going for a "minimal but functional" approach. There's lots of contrast here, too. Many songs have a nice light sound, but, as implied by the title, this album deals with heartbreak. If you're open to something either than what we usually discuss here, then please check this out.

Not being rude or anything, and I know this is the Non HH related music thread, but you really should have resisted, really you should. ;)

Rumor has it that this is going to sell around 450,000 copies this week and beat the new GNR easily.

I think a Cliff Richard thread would get more positive posts than this

Steady!! ;)

Anyways, has anyone gone out and bought Kanye's masterpiece yet? I went out and got three copies this morning just on the recommendation from riding a shag pile carpet boy.

Is that all? I thought for sure I'd be crucified for this.

Now, what I wanna know is, out of all those that harassed and criticized me for this, how many of you were curious enough to sample it? It's obviously a rhetorical question. You guys are hilarious!

Mate, you can't turn on a radio without hearing his shit all over it. You can't turn on a TV without seeing an ad for his upcoming tour of Australia (sampling a lot of his "finest work"). As much as we pray for a world where you don't hear this kind of shit, sometimes you can't avoid it. You really think everyone here doesn't have very, very good reason to hate this crap? What is anything it has in common with any of the music people on this site enjoy???

And what next? We listen to the new Usher and Nelly albums too?

    • As best I can tell, it’s Acousticyzed re-issued with new artwork, and in all the various formats mentioned. This is exactly why I didn’t worry about picking it up earlier this year, as I figured MS would whip out the holy schlong and try to get the hardcore fans to shell out for a second version.
    • Mirror to the Sky - Yes
    • Not really something that fully appeals to me, but I certainly don't see it as dogshit. If it came on the radio (not that I listen to radio) I certainly would not turn it off or skip it on a playlist.
    • Yeah, this whole thread offends me.
    • I'm liking that first track as well
    • Interesting song choice as far as covering Journey, but they likely wanted to go with a lesser known track.   I'm not a fan of the vocal effects nor the guitar tone.  It's a skip for me, but not as bad as I was expecting after reading the prior comments.
    • The nice voice will change for future records, according to Graywolf's Facebook page:

    • Ehh? Is this the same content retitled, or a completely different set of live material?... there's so much wrong with this announcement: This album was previously released as a very-limited CD/DVD.  It sold out instantly.  So we went back in and did a Dolby Atmos remaster/remix of the album, and all new artwork. But CD and DVD don't support Dolby Atmos. That's not a thing. Blu-Ray yes, but not CD or DVD. ALSO - Not only will this be available on streaming platforms but we will soon be announcing the release of Vinyl, CD/DVD, and Cassette.  Yes, you read that right.  Cassette.  Oh - let's talk about the video - the BluRay video has been upgraded to 4K for this release "Upgraded to 4k"... whut? Unless it was reshot using 4K cameras (or was originally shot in 4K but simply authored to blu-ray in SDR) and is completely reauthored to support HDR, a 4K UHD release may not actually be an improvement. Boomers saying boomer things...
    • From the Michael Sweet FB page: You asked for it!  And we listened!  To Hell with the Amps, our acoustic album, is being released worldwide on May 10 to streaming services everywhere.   This album was previously released as a very-limited CD/DVD.  It sold out instantly.  So we went back in and did a Dolby Atmos remaster/remix of the album, and all new artwork.   ALSO - Not only will this be available on streaming platforms but we will soon be announcing the release of Vinyl, CD/DVD, and Cassette.  Yes, you read that right.  Cassette.  Oh - let's talk about the video - the BluRay video has been upgraded to 4K for this release.   There are so many exciting things to come with this release.  Stay tuned here and at Stryper.com We are looking forward to taking this acoustic album on the road starting May 30.
