  1. This kind of music is authentic and quite obviously one of the most sought after genres on the planet. Even without corporate backing it continues to sell and have a following. Cheap scams and optical tricks aren't selling to actual consumers and have cost everyone in the industry, except for those performing the act. It's called fraud. On topic: running any website and activity without a corporate backbone throughout all these years is a rare achievement. I think you should be aware of that first of all.
  2. Their best to me. I understand the whole vs. thing, it may not be your thing, but can't deny this one from being good music. The words "overproduced" and "cheesy" are marketing slang for anything worked to perfection. MTV doesn't mean anything in comparing sound on record, and in the 70's they were pushing it as well. "I Was Made For Lovin' You" anyone, catching on the Disco hype? Either way I don't have a problem with anything, I like that song as I like most KISS releases.
  3. R.I.P. Another legend left our earth. One of the great Heavy Metal pioneers, and one of its purest performers throughout his entire career. It's back to the light for the holy diver - may you rock on in heaven.
  4. But I think the reason most round these parts like them is because they have a big dose of the 80's Hair Metal era about them. Same with TAKING DAWN, who kinda sound like a modern version of SKID ROW. The whole image/sound (i.e, no downtuned guitars) is that of the 80's, wrapped-up in an updated production. Plus this band, like a lot of the bands from that era, seem genuinely more interested in living the 80's rock-star cliched lifestyle (check out any interview with them for proof) than the quality of their music, which is a shame because they could make a good record if they put their minds to it... That may be so, but while there’s a lyrical lack of quality throughout and the desire to lead the Rock star life they still succeed to write a selection of good tunes to me. I’m on about a song like Loaded And Alone once more, I think that’s one of the best tunes to come out of the last decade. So no matter how you put it they must be doing something good. Can't say that from just any band.
  5. Typical example of a dysfunctional biased RIAA trying to scam audiences with throwaway trash. Because anyone with musical knowledge would hear these guys can actually fabricate a good tune, as opposed to the tuneless stale nonsense they've been trying to pass for Rock that doesn't sell. Lyrically it isn't too bad either. A song like Loaded And Alone deals with the price of fame for example. Instead here it's said to be the lyrical equivalent of Pop Rap music. Well: meet Pop Rock where things aren't only about killing yourself for being such a loser. The funny thing is that these critics never applied to Rap music, aka Hip Hop/Pop mixture. Instead they've received rave reviews for themes such as "shaking the booty" by the very same people. The difference between Rock and Rap is that Rock possesses a musical art where Rap is lyrical first of all. Rapping about your new car doesn't really require any skill. It's an empty product and the immediate cause for the lack of sales. A conclusion is easily made: it's these guys who aren't fans of music, but rather fans of the mighty green dollar. Sold their soul when they were hired for writing biased reviews in favor of a scamming defunct. You lost me when you started defending their lyrics. If you're a 15-year old high school girl then you probably find their lyrics relevant (see the video for "Without You" if you're in any doubt about their target audience), but if you're either a male or an adult then it's garbage. Not suggesting that other Modern Rock bands are setting the literary world on-fire y'understand, but these lyrics are shite. End of. Admitted that the overall lyrics are no good here I'm stating a song like Loaded And Alone begs to differ, to people who dismiss an entire genre for it while defending a 2000's music industry. It has its moments, while a song like Without You is obvious lyrical garbage right from the title indeed. Which takes me back to my original critic of answering too many cliches. Main point is that they have a better sound than most of their tuneless "Modern Rock" contemporaries around and should get recognition for it.
  6. I tell you something else. Somehow her management seems to have the brilliant idea of scrapping any promo for Believe altogether. The alternative? An all new non album song for second single, that sounds like an Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend ripoff, or like everything else of that past decade Teen Pop/Pop Punk/Emo junk for that matter. I don't like it one bit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oudO9ZhczN0
  7. Some Hinder reviews: Typical example of a dysfunctional biased RIAA trying to scam audiences with throwaway trash. 8. Yeah, it'll be interesting to hear what they do for the new one. I really wonder if they will keep that huge 80's vibe going. The simple fact of the matter is that, in my opinion, 'Take it to the limit' was not a commercial failure because of anything the band did. It's just that the homosexual, pillow biting, ass-licking, scrotum devouring, polar bear face-mask wearing public had decided it was no longer "in", or cool to like Hinder. I also wonder if choosing 'Without you' for the first single was a poor choice. If they wanted to go for a ballad, 'Last Kiss Goodbye' and 'Thing For You' were both vastly superior tracks, imo. I wonder how it'd go if rather than the safe ballad option, they'd tried something super melodic like 'Loaded and Alone' or 'Heaven sent' as the lead single? That's exactly what happened. But of course the Top 40 public, or what's left of it is directly influenced by the RIAA. They send out messages to inform about the ins and outs. It's the direct result of mass media manipulation, marketing against popular Rock music ever since the early 1990's. It sends out media boycotts, biased critics and ridicule. The record buying public disagrees and sales are cut in half, going on zero for this. Lack of quality given up as the main reason. It's the era of a scamming industry trying to get rid of their trash, but nobody wants it. They're going down for that one. So I'd say it's only a matter of time new people, new companies who understand the market will take over and close deals with the media. Let's see if Hinder understands this. I think Loaded And Alone should've been the first single, one of the best Modern Rock tunes to come out of the past decade to me. They should've never released something by the title Without You IMO. It's way too cliched and only confirms the bad image the RIAA sent out to the public.
  9. If this is the new Modern Rock it's a change for the better. Because I'm hearing the Classic Rock on this one and would've probably placed it in AOR/Hard Rock myself. I'm listening to Drive Away now and to me this is just the AOR/Hard Rock profile we all discuss on a daily basis over here. There are some new aspects about this one, it's not exactly the same as others, but not any less awesome. Meaning it's a good mix of sound, unlike most we've heard throughout the past decade, aka music that just doesn't cut it. An update of past glory Rock music and her own sound. Like Geoff I'm only listening to this one now. We've had too much crap that you'd almost assume a new commercial artist couldn't possibly be that good. Coming from a time where radio has played almost nothing but utter crap that nobody wants to hear hardly anyone is going to sit through that. But I think this is a good example of other companies threatening to take over and major companies being forced back to do better. And of course when you play with Michael Jackson, Carlos Santana, BB King, Prince and Steve Vai you're playing among the best. Vai is also featured here on the guitar instrumental Highly Strung and we see Desmond Child lending a helping hand on Bad News. As opposed to the poster above me I don't think the single is the best track. I'm going with everything else as I tend to consider the single a bit generic and probably the most 00's sounding track on here. I like it nonetheless. But I'd say Suffocated, Bad News, Drive Away, Highly Strung, Think Like A Man and What's It Gonna Be are the best.
  10. seriously, winger - karma is one of the best album of the last decade imho I'll second this. As a matter of fact I'm not to keen on most new releases. I mostly always find something wrong with them one way or another, but this one is as flawless as it gets for an album released at the end of the last decade. Of course there's always room for improvement in them producing an even better outcome, but take a song like Always Within Me and I'd easily consider it a part 2 to Spell I'm Under. Different song, but not any less awesome to me. Not to mention my favorite song Witness here, a killer track reminding me of classic Winger as presented on the first 2 albums and so on, yet an unique song in its own right. One of their best of all time IMO. Pull Me Under, Stone Cold Killer and After All These Years are other favorites. Easily among the best Hard Rock releases I've heard in a long long time, and among my favorite Winger albums in general just the same. I guess I understand what the TC means. I get that vibe at some places, the first track is an example. But still this is at least 80% good production all the way through to me. And definitely in comparision to the many albums who do deserve a lot more of this kind of criticism IMO. The above mentioned songs I consider a continuation of the classic Winger catalogue. Great songs in their own right I don't consider any inferior to past outings. Let me finish with that if this was the debut, In The Heart Of The Young or Pull just released you bet some people would've found something wrong with it just the same. But no, a good album is a good album to me. And to me this most definitely fits the description of one.
  11. Shapes up to be an ace comeback. I have enjoyed this band since the first release, I last saw them with that Eurovision thing and since then they've been out of sight for a while. I enjoy all 3 songs, but I think the opposite of the above poster on this one. I think Tonight is the best song here, no competition. That's the impressive AOR sound I'm looking for. It has everything I got out of the past tunes, this is where they come full circle for me. There's only one critic I've ever had for this band. The band name and the names of their songs. I think it requires attention. If you want to be recognized you must come up with an inventive name. A name like Tonight is nice and all, but how many songs are there by that title? Change it to something that sets you apart from the masses, yet something equally catchy. Yes: it's most definitely important to get noticed.
  12. I like this as well; surprise, surprise. The sound seems to be there. Two Worlds FTW out of these samples for me, full glory AOR/Hard Rock. Then comes Prisoner Of Love, Believer and Promised Land.
  13. First of all I really dig the feel good sound of this all. I also pretty much appreciate the carefree message and all, but I'm afraid this formula is only gonna prove the prejudical set by today's industry against this stuff. The sound is great, but the lyrics are what they tag cheesy, and the image is 50/50. They look somewhat cool, but also like girls. People will have a problem with that. Especially the lead singer with the lip gloss riding his bike to the beach. IMO we need more bands like Winger etc. Real men with the hard rock image having a more serious looking Pop Metal outing. The long hair, the cool image, but not too much makup and all that. They're fun, rocking and cool, but they possess the essence of both a good lyric and tune. It's more marketable that way. On a side note I see the H.E.A.T. and Europe comparisons weren't understood somewhere. H.E.A.T. is more AOR, Europe has more Hard Rock guitar featured in their music at places, but the melodies and structures of the songs are there.
  14. Well, it ought to go back mainstream. People are not buying records anymore because what's sold sucks, plain and simple. The 00's standard of Hip Pop: soulless R&B with Pop music sensibilities and Rap music beats is obsolete and has been proven dysfunctional. Tuneless nonsense. AOR has the right package, I've been promoting around a bit and people love this stuff. It's scammers who have been selling junk for gold, in an attempt to fill their own wallets while failing to deliver. Reinvention to this, it's people's choice. Existing record companies will have to change their ways, new record companies will see the light of day. Let Frontiers Records grow bigger so they'll secure a position in the market, I heard they recently opened a US office. This sounds like the real deal BTW.
  15. Just fast forwarded through the album. A few decent songs against a bad music industry, nothing memorable. No purchase, I think these guys should know what to do to score by now. *Plays You Give Love A Bad Name*
