What's a spinnin' in your CD player?

Nickleback - 'Here and now' ; exactly, 100% what you'd expect from these guys. Sounds like a continuation of 'Dark Horse' which I guess is a pretty good thing. Solid, reliable band. Can't help thinking, though, I was after something a little more adventurous.

HEADSHOT - Synchronicity (75%)

dropped fast since the first listening. The first half becomes a generic thrash, but still good, though it felt too flat, samey, and less-risky. Pick up a bit on second half, but still don't understand what the hell are they doin' with the 10-minutes title track, passable all the time. A nice gift from a label though!

Well, depends upon whether it's okay for me to offend people (not that I haven't done it before!)? Needless to say I don't like it much, although on the plus side I did get it free!

well it depends on how you appreciate their debut. It's basically the same style so if you despise the debut, no reason to like this one either, but thought you're a fan of the softer side of 80s AOR judging that you also like westcoast stuffs Tim ? Let me know what's the problem with this one.

np. GRAND ILLUSION - Prince of Paupers (80%)

slightly lower than my initial thought, some risky structure on several songs, but good things could be a grower that will stick for quite a long time.

Bang Tango - 'Pistol whipped in the bible belt' ; this doesn't really sound like I expected, or what I picture Bang Tango to sound like. But, like I did expect, I found this painfully average, though it did scrape in a score just over 50%.

The Magnificent - s/t

[this album is blowing my mind. About 5-10 spins in now and every song is bloody marvellous IMO. This is EXACTLY how melodic rock should sound for me. Mix Treat, Place Vendome and Brother Firetribe. Add killer hooks and solos and there you go. Magic. & it keeps getting better. Will WoA and TH be able to hold it off.....only time will tell....its gonna be close]

Chris Antblad - 'Century' ; very mellow, with a host of influences like modern day Stage Dolls, Night Ranger, Bryan Adams and even stuff like Savage Garden. It's not giving me an erection, but it's a nice peaceful collection of good songs.

Very very good disc in my book, very well written, produced and presented in general - Defo some Savage Garden in there on some tracks (which is no bad thing in my book). I don't think it will make too many top 20 end of year lists, but it is hovering around mine for sure.

    • My thoughts exactly
    • Some of these I have touched on in the past, but not found myself desperate to explore more. For instance 8 have hardline eclipse and also II. But that's it  Same with a few others on the list, I may have an album. So I guess I really want another Tyketto where the whole catalogue is great. If any on the list fit that bill. In the past I tried out Alfo November. The one with a brick wall in it?, Lillian Axe and a Loudness. Maybe I need to try them again. I purposefully left some off, like Vibbie Vincent Invasion because of the screechy vocals. I guess I always put Mark Free in that group as well.
    • Doesn't sound like Sweet at all but I kinda like it actually.
    • From your list and what hasn't been mentioned ,Sleeze Beez -Screwed,Blued & Tattooed and their Powertool album  ,Bezerk by Tigertailz , first two Lillian Axe , Baton Rouge - Shake Your Soul...all particular favs of mine,I have  a soft spot for Loudness - Thunder In The East also, dunno if you have Master Of Disguise from Lizzy Borden but it would be my fav by them....to be honest most of the artists on that  list I like though
    • New song 'Burning Like A Falling Star' from the forthcoming album 'Full Circle'.
    • Well, the first two "Giant" albums are quintessential, as is the "Hardline" debut. Akdo Nova's "Blood on the Bricks" is one of my all time favourites, Lizzy Borden is awesome as is the Mark/Marcie Free fronted "King Kobra".
    • So some may remember that Tyketto toured recently and aside from Forever Young, I never delved into this band. So I did, so I'd know the songs in concert and was blown away. A great band with an awesome catalog that I had missed out on. To be fair, in the 80's it was a lot harder to access and find out about a lot of the more fringe bands, that's my excuse anyway. So I now am faced with digging deeper into some other bands I've overlooked. Some of these I gave a go, and wasn't really impressed, but now I'm starting fresh with an open mind. So below is a list of bands I have eitehr never bothered with, or never really gave a proper go. Lizzy Borden is on the list and I have done a bit of their stuff and like it a lot, so I will definately dig deeper into them (I've got some older stuff and some newer stuff, but have skipped quite a few albums) But the others, fire away, tell me which bands have killer material that I'll froth and how stppid I've been to skip them. Aldo Nova Badlands Baby Tango Baton Rouge Black N Blue Britney Fox BulletBoys DAD Giant Hanoi Rocks Hardline Jetboy King Kobra Kingdom Come Lillian Axe Lizzy Borden Loudness Love Hate Quireboys Saigon Kick Santa Cruz Shotgun Messiah SleezeBeez SouthGang Tiger Tailz TNT Vain White Tiger
