Even IF you dont sign up for it, you will be paying for it. Either in some kind of tax, Insurance Premium increases or loss of DR or your plan.

There are many that are getting exemptions, and many more that want them. Congress who most make over 174K per year get 75% paid for, You & I nothing!

With supposedly 30 million or more signing up of course there are not enough DRs. Hell there arent enough Drs now. AND IF Amnesty for Illegals is approved you can probably add millions more, getting "Free" medical WE pay for!!.

Supply & Demand will happen and prices will go up and long waits and less care will take place.

And with Bureaucrats making the decisions instead of Drs and Families Americans are really screwed!!

This issue can and has been debated to death.Just 2 points from me.1) This issue should've been decided years ago.Medical costs have been going up for years yet nothing was done until now. 2) I hear about the complaint of there being not enough doctors. My niece is going to be a doctor. When she applied to one of the top colleges they had 10,000 applications but only accept 100 people ! So there are people that want to be doctors.

We all remember it, he said it hundreds of times. Obama said If you like your Dr, you can keep your Dr.. If you like your health insurance you will be able to keep your health insurance. I wanted to believe that, but I was doubtful even back then. I knew what kind of person he is.

NOW, he and others are saying He DID NOT say that. Listen to this.

Sorry, but there is NOTHING about obamacare that reduces the cost of healthcare. Absolutley nothing. Just speaking from my point of view, this is what has happened to myself, my family and the people I work with since the introduction of obamacare:

My insurance rates will be going up $50 per paycheck in the next month or two ($100 per month). Also our deductibles will be more that doubling.

One of my coworkers had their insurance carrier drop them, even though they had very few claims, just because their rates were too low and the coverage provided was too high compared to what obamacare provides. So they can re-apply with their insurance carrier, but they will not be eligible for the great coverage they had been getting.

The orthopedic doctor I work for is an independent medical doctor. obamacare favors the Big Health Systems so they are implementing various new rules, hoops, clauses and other catches for small healthcare providers do basically drive them out of business. The doctor I work for is refusing to abide by all these ridiculous rules the government is implementing so he will just shut down his practice next year, leaving myself and the other employees here without a job.

There are many ways to fix what I would say is a broken healthcare system...the way obama is going about it is not one of the ways.

Thank you very little obama. :2up:

most deductibles on the new-policy-because-we-discountinued-your-current-policy are going thru the roof so that most annual premiums + annual deductibles will be close to 10k before insurance pays out a penny.

I agree with you that we have a broken healthcare system.Maybe Obamacare isn't the answer but neither is keeping the status quo.I guess the premise of Obamacare is that the more people who have insurance the cheaper it would be.Which makes sense in a way.I remember trying to join a gym. They gave me a price. The next day I went with my friend. It was either both of us join or neither of us do.Well, they offered a better deal to get us to join.

Hopefully the doctor you work for changes his mind.Is he retiring or joining another practice? There are very, very few independent doctors. My PCP and any specialists I've had to see are always in a group.

My two cents on this issue: I'm self-employed and currently pay $400/mo through NASE for MegaLife which is one of those phony plans with little to none coverage. I could not get better coverage under the current regulations (and I have tried, believe me!) as I'm 40+ and take high blood pressure pills. It's either the phony coverage, or high-risk pool plan of $1500+ which I cannot afford.

Under O.C. for the same $400/mo I will be able to get a normal working Blue Cross gold plan which WILL cover ALOT more than what I got now. So for me personally, January 1st cannot come soon enough.

Do I like O.C. - not entirely. Obama should have stuck to his guns and not compromised with GOP for it. It should have been as intended initially: a universal health care for everyone just as elsewhere in the world.

Unfortunately we are getting the compromised version, which is still better than what we have right now, so roll it on!

The problem is that while it is better for you personally, it is actually WORSE for a very large percentage of Americans.

People are being dropped by their insurance companies left and right, or are seeing their monthly premiums, copays, and/or deductibles go through the roof.

The cure really is worse than the disease... literally.

This is no different that being forced to have car insurance, other than the fact you use your fucking car every day and may go the whole year without using your insurance.

We had great prices on family insurance through my wife's job and now we are going to have to do some fucking health savings plan.

Everything is going to get jacked up by the insurance companies and small business people will have to close their doors because they can't offer it at a good rate, because they will all go up.

This may be the worst president in history...

you are only forced to have car LIABILITY insurance in case you cause damage or injury to someone else.

obama care is doubling or tripling costs 85% of the country to help the 15% and it does NOTHING to help control or even restrain medical costs.

and if obama manages to pull off his amnesty crap (adding 11 million more people who will qualify for nearly free insurance),, you really think 11 millions mexicans are going to run out and get free condoms because obamacare will cover contraception?

It is a general comparison I was making. My point is that it's something else that is forced on us, but it's a piece of shit.

I also received a letter notifying that my current plan is going to drop me as it is non-comliant to the new regulations and/or the company is not willing to make it such w/o further price hike. It is inconvenient to change plans/providers, but the bottom line is, if I can get a better coverage under ACA for the same money (or less, should I opt for less coverage and bigger deductable), then I dont see a reason why all other people being dropped shouldn't be able to. If ACA does one thing, it is to ensure people are not denied coverage anymore, or kicked to a ridiculous high-risk pool plans for being few pounds heavier or having blood pressure, etc. It is not a perfect act by far, but definitely an improvement to what we have right now. In my own opinion anyway.

The mandates of Obamacare has led to many unintended consequences. At least 3.5 million people have lost their coverage so far. So much for being able to keep your coverage if you like it. Who would have thought the law meant to increase access to healthcare would lead people to consider divorce? This is just the beginning.

  • 4 weeks later...

Health care exchange application complete. Got a Blue Shield Platinum plan which is actually $90/mo cheaper than my current phony MegaLife, while providing INFINITELY more coverage, and $0 (ZERO) deductible!

It would be so nice to be able to go to the doctor and pay $20 copay instead of those nasty $250+ bills... Last year I got thrown under the bus with $5,900.00 bill for an MRI scan - a simple diagnostic procedure which literally took 5 minutes... in 3 weeks I'll be able to finally return the "favor" and ditch that useless and dreadful MegaLife... revenge never tasted so sweet! Thank you ACA!

And how do the unemployed like myself go about paying for insurance with no income?

Depending on the state you live you may be eligible for MedicAid or a lower-cost coverage. Fill out a Marketplace application to find out if you will qualify

If we run someone as far to the right as Cruz, that all but guarantees Billery in 2016, and this country can't afford another 4 or 8 years of this mess.

Realistically though, I'm less concerned with what's going on at the national level than I am with the utter disaster the Illinois economy has become. Several years ago, the Democrats "temporarily" raised the personal and corporate state income tax 67% from 3% to 5%, under the guise of using that windfall to pay down the state's debt. Surprise surprise, instead they just used it to go on a spending spree and the state is now further in debt than it ever has been, ranking LAST out of the 50 states with respect to solvency and credit rating (yes, we passed California).

So what do the Democrats want to do, now that that "temporary" tax increase is about to expire? Replace it with a permanent "progressive" tax plan... that means that anyone making more than... wait for it... $18,000 a year will see a tax increase over the current 5% (let alone reverting to the 3% it was supposed to), gradually increasing to 8% income tax if you make the astronomical figure of $80,000 a year.

Add that to the 9.5% sales tax where I live and It's insane. The Big Blue Machine will just use it to spend on more free handouts for Cook County (Chicago), and we'll just go deeper into the bowl. You thought the news about the City of Detroit filing bankruptcy was big, just wait until the State of Illinois does it...

You mean Ted Cruz? The republicans can't be that dumb to run him for president in 2016,can they?

I think Ted Cruz has his own agenda. He sees himself destined to be a president, and he would be going for it full force. I dont see who can stop him, but that's my personal opinion of course and I'd love to be proven wrong.

The current government is a mess, but only because there are certain guys in the congress hell-bent on throwing wrenches at the black guy, regardless of the consequences. Which essentially renders the entire government dysfunctional. It most probably would be the case if we get a woman for a president too. Although I do think Hillary is a player of her own, would grow a bigger spine, and handle things better than Obama. Time will tell, I guess.
