Don't Stop Believing

Now incredibly Journey are no.6 in the UK pop/download charts with Don't Stop Believing.

It was never a hit first time round in UK and was always a fringe song in the public 'pop' conciousness.

So when some guy wins X-Factor (American Idol for UK) and sings it twice during the series, the pop public take note and suddenly teenage hip-hopsters are singing Perry lyrics....bizzare.

Now some crappy Disney type show called Glee cast have recorded it and it is no. 5 in the charts, so now we have 2 versions in the top ten. (Don't bother checking it out it is truly awful)

Then this link got emailed to me today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKeA3-n27t8

it's band called Rock Sugar who have merged Don't Stop Believing & Enter Sandman.

Enjoyable stuff

Spread the word.....

Some of the women I work with are raving about Don`t Stop Believing, they`re loving it, one of my favourite bands but a song I never listen to anymore as I`ve heard it too many times over the last 25 years or so.

Journey in the charts! Better late than never I suppose. One thing I will say is, that it still sounds as good today as it did when it was released.

Glad to see the original selling more records, it's a classic song and is pretty timeless IMO. However the lyrics are pretty naff and if you sing them without the passion that Perry has then it just sounds like a cliched/cheesy 80's tune - which is exactly the problem with the soulless renditions that are currently in the charts. I've never heard anyone sing this anywhere close to the way Perry does, so why do people bother? Some songs you shouldn't copy as they are only brought to life in the hands of a top class vocalist - and this is one of them.

This morning I listened to the new Number One Gun album which closes with a 'Don't Stop Believing' cover, and then I listened to Rock Sugar which opens with a version of 'Don't Stop Believing'. With Steel Panther's recent cover that's three covers of this song I've heard in just over a month. When will people get an original idea?

In the US I'm guessing this song is like Cold Chisel's 'K-San' is in Australia.

LOL....wasnt SP's finest moment if i recall correctly.

recording a straight version is a mistake for any band, as it will never sound as good as the original.

Also the style of song doesnt suit SP - their cover of Fantasy is far better.

Really? I actually thought it was an excellent version. It goes without saying that I prefer the SP version to the original, but I thought even the haters would enjoy that one. :(

I read in an article that Journey actually vetoed the use of Don't Stop Believing as the 1st single by that X-Factor winner (whiner hahah!) and so he went with that Mylie Cyrus song the Climb or whatever it was called.

Nice one Journey....but they were probably sick of people screwing up their songs (take a bow Mariah Carey for Open Arms)

Just found the article

Agreed. Sad that the first time a lot of people hear this incredible track is a feeble pop/dance version. Plus a lot of them will think it's a new song and never realise that this kind of true quality songwriting is found in rock music, not the derivative drivel they listen to.

    • Eclipse played that same game when Apocalypse Blues came out.  They dropped that song as just a single and made no mention of an album at that point as far as I remember.  All they were doing was selling the 7 inch vinyl.  We know now though that they clearly knew a full album was coming as Erik said they basically were working on both albums at the same time and deciding which tracks would go on each album.  Granted, maybe they didn't know the full timing of album #2 at that point but they certainly knew one was coming. Maybe the same here.  Maybe will trickle out a few songs and then announce an album later this year or early next year when it's closer to release.
    • So, Danny posted how the song is doing on Spotify and someone asked if this means a new album soon. Danny just made vague replies and said "well there will be more stuff coming soon"
    • Funnily enough, I read that this afternoon when I went to add the album to my collection on the main page. I got the European version which has two bonus tracks ... if you don't have them, you really aint missing anything

    • Created and Posted this video recently in order to promote Ryder SRIII a little more.  I love this song, one of my personal favs from the record.   Be careful viewing at work though (NSFW), just for a couple of images in the video.
    • Named my HH self after the song Auslander on the album Stain. Love that track. Really like the whole album. It's like Living Colour's "Slave to the Grind" or "Dog Eat Dog".
    • From Frontiers: TRACKLIST: 1 Awesome God 2 Stand Up 3 Warrior 4 There You Are 5 Speak His Name 6 Why God Brought Me Here 7 Praying 8 It's Up to You 9 Holy Moment 10 Leaning on the Cross 11 Jesus Christ --- When a musical family gets together to record, magic can happen and this is what the VAN ZANT’s are here for! Brothers Johnny and Donnie Van Zant (respectively current lead vocalist of Southern Rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd and founding member of .38 Special) were able to find room in their busy schedules for the first time in 1998, recording their collaboration album “Brother to Brother”: a tribute to their late brother and Lynyrd Skynyrd original singer and founding member Ronnie. Such release was highly acclaimed between the press and fans worldwide and brought the duo to record a follow up album, simply entitled “II” in 2001. Their collaboration during the years did not stop as they tapped their feet in a more Country-oriented style with the release of “Get Right With the Man” (certified Gold in the USA in 2005) and later on with “My Kind of Country” in 2007. Now the brothers once again reinvent themselves, offering a Christian-themed album encompassing their Rock and Blues musical roots (and with a touch of Country for good measure). The result “Always Look Up” is made up of songs that will touch the listener’s heart and soul, with an emotional depth that is truly second to none in today’s musical landscape. Experience the soul touching that only the music from the Van Zant family, can provide. You will see why they are icons of the American South, and musical heroes to millions around the globe!
