House of Lords - Cartesian Dreams

It seems like these guys just released a cd not that long ago.

If it's as good as the last two then I will be buying it.

Frontiers Records will release of the brand new HOUSE OF LORDS album, entitled "Cartesian Dreams", on September 18 in Europe and October 13 in the USA.

Following the 2008 release of "Come to My Kingdom", a record hailed by critics and fans as one of the highlights of the season, HOUSE OF LORDS carved another masterpiece that sets in stone the legacy of one of the most productive and impressive bands of the scene.

"This new CD was truly a labor of love," says singer James Christian. "I was so fortunate to be able to work once again with my writing partner and friend Mark Baker. The last time Mark and I worked together was to write and record 'Demons Down'. We have a great chemistry when it comes to writing songs. Jimi Bell once again gave us smoking tracks and Tommy Denander also put his contribution on a few great tracks."

The songs written for the new CD offer many different flavors. "The band, as usual, always strives to stay true to its sound but this time around we expanded our horizons a bit without compromising the trademark sound that so many people expect from us," says James. "We don't want to keep making the same record over and over, so this time around you will hear a few things you did not hear on the previous CDs."

"Cartesian Dreams" is a natural progression for a band that has such a long history and is just what you would expect and even more: superb hooks, majestic atmospheres that bring back the memories of the debut album, monumental guitar riffs and a production to die for. "The one common thread with the band is that we are always on the same page in terms of what want our records to sound like," explains James.

"Cartesian Dreams" track listing:

01. Cartesian Dreams

02. Born To Be Your Baby

03. Desert Rain

04. Sweet September

05. Bangin'

06. A Simple Plan

07. Never Never Look Back

08. The Bigger They Come

09. Repo Man

10. Saved By Rock

11. Joanna

12. The Train (bonus track)

A band that just seem to keep getting better. I agree with the both of you. Very surprised this has come so quickly after the last few brilliant releases. I'm stoked!

The last album I bought was Demons Down....how does the newer stuff compare to the earlier albums?

The last 2 albums have been quite similar. If you ask me they're a little similar in style to the 'Demons Down' disc. Good solid melodic rock. I can't see anyone liking 'Demons Down' but not the last two. As long as you avoid 'The power and the myth' you can't go wrong with any HOL, imo.

Cool. Is a definite pick-up for me, even though both last albums were a little samey. Still one of the legends of MHR....

I disagree a little with your statement. While the last two albums are great IMO they don't really sound much like Demons Down. They have much more of an AOR style to them where Demons Down had some heavier things going on on songs like the title track and "O Father". Either way I think Nick would love the last two discs but I don't think they have all that much in common with Demons Down but I do hear much of the debut on them.

I love all of their albums except 'Myth', and although the last two discs were excellent, I really do hope that there is something a little more fresh in the mix this time around, as 3 discs that sound exactly the same is a little overkill imo. I don't mean completely change their sound and go the way 'Myth' did (fuck they got slated enough for doing that) but a little like the subtle differences they did between 'Sahara' and the fabulous 'Demons Down' album in songwriting and production. Look forward to hearing it.

Sorry to spoil the party but Im not. Ive completely lost interest in the forced HOL sound....most of the songs are medium paced with Christian straining to reach the notes. Same riffs on nearly every song.

Ive just listened to the 3 samples over at Mel rock and have to say I have zero interest in this album.

Yep those soundbytes are pretty average. The last album had little longevity for me, and as much as I still enjoyed the last couple of discs there is so much good music for me to buy I might have to hear more of this before deciding whether to pick up...

The reason "Bangin" was referenced was, in all likelihood, because it is a monster fucking tune. AM just giving the CD its first listen. So far I'm quite impressed.

Just listened to the clips which have been posted - I have to say that this sounds a lot more interesting than Come To My Kingdom.

Quite impressed with most tracks - I may well pick this up.

    • Another Robert Mason post, but this time I really do feel a connection with it. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but my name is Dustin.  Everybody calls me Dusty, so when I saw the new Warrant album (Rockaholic) featured not only one of my favourite vocalists, but also included a track called Dusty's Revenge, I couldn't believe it. I then find out that it's a concept album about a "Rockaholic" called Dusty. For obvious reasons, I love this album. Here's a couple of tracks.
    • Harpsichord.    I thought of it and it was random, so there you go.
    • From their FB page: Alcatrazz wish to make the following announcement: Back in late 2020 the brilliant Doogie White came in to help us out with our then already booked live dates after the departure of the previous vocalist (those dates were ultimately postponed to late 2021 due to the Covid lockdowns). We all had a GREAT time...and thus, one thing led to another and before we knew it we had made two fantastic albums and toured considerably in a nearly 4 year period. Now our schedule is getting busier and busier, as is Doogie's with his very fine solo work... and with that, the inevitable clashing of dates in our respective diaries, and needless to say, the impossibility of him being able to be in two places at one time. We remain on very very good terms with Doogie and cannot thank him enough for his contributions to the band, he is very welcome on our stage anytime, as are all past Alcatrazz alumni. Current Warlord vocalist and someone already known to many Alcatrazz fans (as co-producer and also contributing songwriter for Alcatrazz's past 3 albums) Giles Lavery will be stepping up for the 2024 live dates - and with that we will be reintroducing many songs from the Alcatrazz past, including some not played in many years. Giles's first show is 22nd of March in New Orleans, lets all make him feel welcome and please lets also give a massive thank you to our dear friend Doogie White for everything he gave to this band since 2020, he is a true pro and a great person! Doogie has a video message to the fans that we will share later today as well. Jimmy, Gary, Joe, Larry.
    • Maybe it's because I've heard GnR a couple thousand times by now, but I much prefer "Fall to Pieces" by Velvet Revolver over "Sweet Child o Mine" at this point in my life.
    • I'll have to investigate that Durbin. I'd count Striker and Mick Mars among the best metal releases as well now that I think about it.
    • Haven't picked up Saxon yet, but as far as metal goes, I love the new Durbin album as well.
    • I wasn’t thrilled with the singles as they came out, other than “The Serpent and the King”, but I’ll be damned if they haven’t grown on me while listening to them as part of the cohesive package that is “Invincible Shield”. I broke down and picked up the Target exclusive to get the three bonus tracks, and I enjoy them too. Overall, a damn fine addition to the JP discography. Is it better than “Firepower“? I’m not there yet, but time will tell. 🤔 This one and Saxon have set the bar pretty high for metal this year. 👍
    • Agree with this. Though I think you should check out Firepower. You can get it real cheap new everywhere. It is molten. I'm also enjoying Invincible very much and 2024 new music as a whole.
    • I remember my early days on the internet joining a group on Yahoo (yeah thats how long ago it was) and the woman who created the group was trying to persaude me how great Creed was, so much so that she sent me the first two albums on CD. I had no idea what they sounded like. When I played them all I could think is that they sounded like Pearl Jam, and I fucking hate Pearl Jam. I ended up trading them for something better. I can't remember the ins and outs of it, but I somehow shared my CD collection online and she noticed straight away that the Creed CDs were not listed. She asked me why and I said I sold them as really did not like them, and got something I did like. She never spoke to me again after that
