I'm telling you guys now... this is going to be album of the year material. 11 full songs! HOLY SHITBALLS! I cannot wait!

I think the key with this, as it was with the Metal Shop/Skool songs, is that despite the humour, the music is still fucking awesome.

If you took the lyrics out and replaced them with "proper" lyrics, they would be classed as great 80s rock songs!

Backed. And I would be personally offended to find out that people here discard this band based on a few sexually cheeky lyrics. I thought I was dealing with dudes here... not a bunch of skirt wearers. ;)

You "discard" bands all the time due to lyrics about God, Jesus, etc., yet would be offended if I chose not to listen to a band because all they sing about is cum-slinging, ass-fucking, and ball-sucking? Kind of a double standard going on there, brother. If somebody doesn't like a certain type of lyrics, then that's their perogative, their personal preference, correct?

I too am guilty, if I hear the words, Nigga, Hoe, Pimp, Forty, Homie, Duece Duece, or any form of Abonics, so I guess that makes me racist

The funny thing is, if you do listen to all the songs they're not as "full-on" all the time as you might expect.

To each their own, but these guys are just having fun. If you like good music, I see no reason why you can't enjoy some humerous (if not a little explicit at times) lyrics when you know the tongue is firmly planted within cheek. Lighten up, have a laugh and listen to some great tunes. ;)

If those christian bands said what they did with their tongue in cheek I could have a good laugh with them, but the fact that they say even more stupid things than Steel Panther, but are deadly serious... well that's where I start seeing a separation. Because I laugh at them instead of with them, and then that laughter turns to sympathy and then to anger.

If you're going to write stupid lyrics, at least do it in good humour. :)

PS. I have never and would never ever dream of writing a christian band off if they sounded this good. The only ones I discard are the borderline ones. You should know well enough by now from my rants that I still listen to a lot of great (musically and song-wise) christian bands despite my sincere and deep hatred for their lyrics and message. Eg. The Brave, Holy Soldier, Disciple, Bloodgood's 'All stand together', Stryper, 90% of modern rock bands I listen to etc.

At the end of the day, good songs are still most important to me and I'd be disappointed to see people ignore these amazing songs because they can't handle a rude joke. ;)

Isnt that half the problem with Christian Music, it goes against and is Anti-Having Fun! there is absolutely no fun aloud in christian music, instead your encouraged not to have fun, unless it's the fun, they promote, which you could do, but it dont sound like very much fun, so therefore it's not fun! on the other hand, cum slinging, ass fucking, rusty trombones, Cincinnati Bow Tie's, Dirty Sanchez's, Pussyjuice Cocktails, these all sound like more of the style of "fun" that I would be looking for, my girlfriend described what she found so amusing about Steel Panther, and she doesn't listen to metal, she said, it's funny because it's so serious sounding, you know guys, regardless what the lyrical content is, these guys have a heavy argument for legit, well produced, catchy big fake sounding, synthetic choruses, and if any of you caught onto this, they arent to shabby of musicians either! a pretty talented bunch of musicians, that's what I think, they just make sure you know they are not just another fly by night, overproduced, wannabe metal band, so they makes sure you remember those words, to the song that your singing in your head the day after you hear it!

ok, so i was listening to the Dr Feelgood album and yknow, the tracklisting goes something like this:

T.N.T. (Terror 'N Tinseltown) - Drugs

Dr. Feelgood – Drugs

Slice of Your Pie – Sex

Rattlesnake Shake – Sex

Kickstart My Heart – Drugs

Without You – Love/Relationships

Same Ol' Situation (S.O.S.) – Lesbians :P

Sticky Sweet – Sex

She Goes Down – Sex (again)

Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) – Relationships, although a snide take on one..

Time for Change – the first real song on the album, unless you include Without You

so this is one of the best albums of our genre? yeah Steel Panther take it to the limits but theyre a parody of themselves!! point is, the fact that nearly all of their songs are about sex hasnt stopped us before!!

this band isnt meant to be taken seriously, the fact that the music is good is a bonus!! but the actual themes are the same things that our genre has been plagued by for years, its just that they dont use double entendres to cover up their meaning, they just flat out say it....but the theme is the same as its always been :s

Kickstart My Heart is NOT about drugs..... it's about racing.

heh heh, shea, if you believe the music video :P

the band also said "You're All I Need" was a true story :P

Vince was huge on racing around that time and I'm pretty sure that's where the song and video came from.

Preach on brother!

You actually raise a really good point there. Do you know I have NEVER heard a christian song which is not all sad and sombre and whiney. It is all so deadly serious, and that's probably another thing that puts me off about it. I do like some more serious stuff (though it's usually reserved for proper human issues - not fantasy 'God troubles') but generally I like good, high spirited fun rock n' roll. Which is what Steel Panther is.

And yeah, I've been priasing the actual songs and musos too, but one thing I haven't mentioned yet is how much I dig the vocals. I'm not sure if I ever got round to hearing this dude in LA Guns, but man he's got some pipes on him. Awesome hard rock voice.

The song was about racing and as the line "When I get high on speed, top fuel funny cars the drug for me", but it was also about how they had kicked the drug (the title of the song was inspired by the infamous Nikki Sixx death/rebirth via an adrenaline shot).

Basically, the song was not about drugs, but did at least aknowledge their past history with them, and how they had replaced the drugs with thrills etc, to get their highs.

BTW, just heard the version of Fat Girl from this album.

It has been re-recorded as there are some slight differences in the vocals etc, but its essentially the same song, with no real changes to the song structure or lyrics like there are with Death to all but metal.

The biggest difference is the end of the song as its extended!

Still think the original is better though!

fair enough, but my point is that this is one of "hair metals" biggest selling albums and Sex/Drugs is all over the thing....never stopped anyone on here from liking the album though...and since this IS a parody band then why not roll with it?

Dude you've got some fucked up perception on shit! let me set you straight on a few things, got it?

T.N.T. (Terror 'N Tinseltown) - Fear of a terror attack hitting L.A.

Dr. Feelgood – A really good Physician, that makes you feel good about yourself

Slice of Your Pie – The Hometown Bakery

Rattlesnake Shake – what happens when the venom of a rattlesnake hits your bloodstream

Kickstart My Heart – Defibulator

Without You – singing about jonesing for heroin

Same Ol' Situation (S.O.S.) – the close bond shared between 2 lady freinds

Sticky Sweet – putting honey on the pie from the bakery

She Goes Down – song about the police arresting the neighbor lady

Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) – PMS

Time for Change – a song about deciding that it's time to try different drugs,

so their you go, the real meanings behind this classic!

I just pre-ordered mine from Amazon.uk as I believe Play.com only supply Europe (F*ckers) and it came to a grand total of au$17.95 with delivery included. Pretty awesome price for a new disc if you ask me. :)

Funny thing was, at checkout the price of the CD was actually 5.20 pounds... and shipping was 3.58 pounds for a total of 8.78 pounds. Luckily the UK/AU conversion is the best I've seen it at the moment.

Its possible that they dont charge VAT to anyone ordering outside the UK.

The postage is really good all the way to Australia I have to say.

The few times I have ordered from the US arm of Amazon, they charge the Earth for postage, although they seem to have dropped the overly high postage costs these days.

That said, looking at Amazon.com, they want $21 for the CD as apparently its an import, suggesting the intial release is only in Europe.

Yeah, to be honest I was content with that shipping rate. I too have had the same issue with the US Amazon, hence why I have never once ordered anything from there. The shipping is always ridiculous. As I said, this total price of au$17.95 is good for a new disc and I'm more than willing to pay it for what I consider to be a genuine contender for album of the year in 2009. :)

Just preordered my copy, I went with the far superior Edited Version of the disc, I think the lyrics are horrid and disgraceful and have no place in this masterpiece of metal!

I'm sure Sir Howdy posted this elsewhere, but if not, for the love of Jeebers, anyone who still has doubts about this band, listen to this song:

    • the debut is by far BJs finest album.  absolute bona fide classic. New Jersey is overrated imo. Prob about 4 really great songs.
    • Doubtful. Most fans will favour Slippery and New Jersey. Hell, for many years 7800 was considered a weak album by many. The first and second album would only be chosen by the absolute die hards.
    • Roll On Down the Highway-BTO
    • I feel like the fans voting would result in more songs from the first two albums.
    • Looks like a pretty nice compilation to me. That said, this sort of stuff doesn't interest me at all anymore.  There was probably a time it would've but now it's just too easy to make your own playlists in spotify to bother.
    • Thankfully newer songs are at a minimum, but I really can't see fans voting for stuff from the new album even if they were the two best songs on that album
    • Final track listing revealed.
