Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvnhcdheAEs

Direct-to-video prequel to the cult giant-worm saga takes place in the 1870s, with Michael Gross portraying Hiram Gummer, the great-grandaddy of his gun-nut 'Burt' character from the other three films. In a neat role reversal, Hiram's a tenderfoot from the city who comes out to investigate strange goings-on at the silver mine he owns. When the so-called "Dirt Dragons" are discovered it's up to Hiram and his fellow townspeople to saddle up and take back their valley.

Low budget fun with the series' usual goofy sense of humor.

Watched Beetlejuice with the kids last night and I forgot that this one is a bit over the top for my kids at least. I also forgot Mike Keaton drops the F bomb in this.

I still love it, the kids, not so much...

I haven't watched this with the kids yet 8 and 6, what do you think?

Mine are 7 and 12, my 7 year old son got about 15 minutes in where Gina Davis is holding Alec Baldwins head in hear hand as if she chopped it off and he was out. My daughter (12), watched the rest with me but she said later that she didn't like it, a) "it was a little scary Dad" (and I'd agree some of the special effects are pretty graphic with face pulling off and such) and B) "that B'juice was really crude, she did not care for how he kept hitting on Gina Davis. :)

Ultimately your call, if I could do it again, I would have previewed it as I did not recall it being that bad, but I have a different standard/threshold than my kids.

I'm loving this exchange. It's encouraging to witness responsible parenting. I deal with students that don't have the greatest parents/guardians, so much so that I sometimes think there aren't any decent folk around anymore.

My kids haven't seen "Beetlejuice," but they're watching Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" right now and they're digging it...

"Cherry Bomb" (2010)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BMjgSdhhkU

Remember the early 80s rash of "female vigilante" films like "Ms. .45," "Lipstick" and "Avenging Angel?" The makers of this uber-cheap shot on video "homage" obviously do. A stripper named "Cherry Bomb" is gang-raped by five scum bags and she spends the whole movie hunting them down and picking them off. Yep, that's the whole plot.

The gal playing "Cherry" is cute but everything else about this flick - acting, dialogue, and direction - is pure crapola. You know you're in trouble when the biggest name in a movie is porn star Nick Manning (known to Howard Stern fans as the "droppin' f**kin' loads!" guy) in his first "mainstream" role.

Avoid!

"2012: Ice Age" (2011)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxbiNWSNPTk

Yet another zero budget disaster film from The Asylum that rips off both of Roland Emmerich's then-recent end of the world epics, "2012" and "The Day After Tomorrow" (neither of which are really deserving of a ripoff anyway).

Volcanic eruptions cause a giant rogue glacier to break loose and bear down on the continental U.S. (at 200 miles per hour!). As the East Coast slowly freezes solid, a family must race from Maine to New York in order to rescue their estranged daughter.

As usual for an Asylum film, "2012 Ice Age" features D-list stars (Patrick "Little House on the Prairie" Labyorteaux! Julie "Growing Pains" McCullough!), bad acting and hilariously cheap special effects.

That said, I still liked it better than either of Emmerich's bloated, pretentious epics!

Cloud Atlas. I enjoyed it, but you have to watch it all, or you will get confused because it jumps around a lot ;)

And probably more than once.
