AI generated music… is this where we’re heading?

This is an example of what you can do.

You choose the style, main instruments, etc.

You then have a choice of using your own lyrics (out of my league) or typing in key words and a rough description of what you want the lyrics to incorporate.

A mate of mine named Tony drives a white Ford Raptor ute. That's basically a luxury car down here.

I incorporated that info into a Hard Rock song and it spat this out.

I DID FUCK ALL! and it creates this killer.

Even the artwork is spot on.

Bloody hell, that's close to the coolest music track I've heard it spit out yet. It can be hit and miss, even with identical prompts, but man I'd be stoked if it spit out some riffage like this for some of my cuts. I think I need to simplify my prompts, lol. I might be getting too detailed and complicating it too much. Very cool.

I've done a few now and they're all coming out Killer like that.

Like you said, keep it simple.

Keep the details for the lyrical content.

We've been working at the Melbourne Knights soccer ground for the last couple of weeks.

This is the first track I did on Friday. When it spat this out after 6 seconds, I was immediately hooked.

This site blows me away!

Another excellent video by Rick Beato; I’m posting this here because he mentions Suno, and the fact that they’re being sued by the big music publishers.  He also makes some excellent points as to why todays youth don’t seem to value music like we did/do.

Wow, I was looking for another goofy satirical AI song, and I somehow came across this masterpiece. It's not comedic, it's actually pretty good, and is probably the most realistic AI glam metal song I've ever heard. It took me a few to realize it was even AI!

This is my first "biographical" attempt.

It's not the most imaginative title, just for context my name is Dustin A.K.A. "Dusty" and as my profile states, I'm from Macedon.

As with the other tracks, I did fuck all.

Some key words for the lyrics and choice of style with an emphasis on certain instruments, that's it.

I'm pretty happy with it.

That's a very, very customised AI generated song, I'd dare say. No way someone's thrown in a couple of keyword prompts and had that spat out at them.

I'm guessing that they wrote the song (or at least the lyrics) themself, then had the AI sing it.

Haha, nice. Are they your own lyrics?

I legit had my/(our's - Suno and I, lol) creations in my head all weekend. Had a long weekend hiking in the mountains and filled my car playlist with the best songs we've generated so far, and they were in my head all weekend. Have a big handful of ones now that I play regularly. So addictive.

And I have literally about 100-200+ more sets of lyrics I've written in the past, all neatly filed for me to go through one by one.

I don't know if paid subscription addresses this, but 100% my biggest "gripe" with it is that when it spits out something near-perfect, but there's just a few things you want to adjust, you can't, without generating an entirely new/different song. I wish there was a way you could keep a version you love, but amend a lyric, or add a chorus or just minor little tweaks to an already completed project. That'd be my one request, otherwise I love it.

yes agreed. that irks me too. There's a great online document which has literally every prompt you can use. Also has some ready made ones for dance music if that's your thing.

Using the Ready made ones does dramatically improve the output so I might play with these for rock music and see what happens

impressive that you've written so many lyrics. I'm working on a dance track at mo but it's difficult. Makes you realise how talented these songwriters are 😉

Great video. Most of his points are things I've spent a lot of time thinking about over the past few years. It's why I started pulling my albums off the shelf and listening to the physical, instead of simply streaming it online. I miss the level of consumption that can only be had with liner notes in hand as you listen along.

It's not worthy of that title, just a bit of fun.

Welp, it's definitely the first song I've heard dedicated to this forum

I've made a few songs which I was pretty happy with. One I wrote all the lyrics to.

Mostly family based songs, now my kids are on to it.

It's fun.

My daughter just did a song about how she "works harder than anyone else" lol

Yeah, initially the lyrics made me cringe a bit, but they're a moment in time. I honestly never, ever thought I'd see them come to life, hence why I'm digging it so much. Good, bad or ugly, I'm going through them all one by one.

I still just wish I could change a line or two on a finished product when it comes out killer, though, lol.

Yeah, I've thought about how it'd be cool to make a few tunes to add to the kids playlist in the car. Maybe once I get through the piles I'll give it a crack. Try to pen some fun pop rock anthems about things they may get a kick out of.

Anyway, one of my favourite tracks from the week just past;

I found it relatively easy to make up lyrics.
Just got some random song in my head and then jotted down words that would have fit in to the song.
Then whack the lyrics in, select the style and it spits out a song that of course sounds nothing like the one I wrote them to, but they fit really well.

On the other hand, it's actually quite brilliant as making songs in the basic more.
I put in
"Write a song about how Monique hates sauce (... Except sweet and sour sauce) and how it annoys everyone, especially McDonald's..   Monique reads a lot of books and loves the Simpsons tv show"

It gave me this

I'm not a muso, but if I had accumulated notebooks full lyrics, knew how to play an instrument and was part of a band then I would look at this as a songwriting tool when it comes to structure and melody.

If Bernie Taupin had access to this shit back in the day, then we probably would never have heard of Elton John.

Context:

I work for a small commercial construction company called "Advance Management", run by a Father and Son.

I had a little bit more influence with the lyrics on this one, but the melody, cadence and backing vocals are all AI.

I'm very happy with it.

ADV been doing this for ages I'd guess

We are at a tipping point IMO, with respect to what AI can do for... or TO... our society.

As with many things, it can be a great timesaving tool... or it could literally destroy society as we know it (only slighly hyperbolic).

As the algorithms get better and better, and it becomes harder and harder to distinguish AI-generated from human-created, entire processes that were once manual could now be almost 100% automated.

We're already seeing the impact on music, art, pr0n, but the high-profile media-focused clickbaits are just the tip of the iceberg.

1. Entire industries could see mass layoffs as AI takes over major functions; cumulatively this could be disastrous.

2. We already have a hard time telling deep fakes from reality with respect to news fabrication and manipulation; it's poised to become even worse during election cycles... the term "fake news" was never more accurate.

3. Lawyers are chomping at the bit: the legal and ethical entanglements are ginormous. Copyright and intellectual property transgressions loom all over the place, not just in the arts. Schools, colleges, and universities are struggling with how to deal with AI "tools" when it comes to assignments, research papers, theses, and published articles. If you can prompt an AI tool to spit out a term paper for you and you just tweak it, have you actually done any research? Is being published actually proof of  accomplishment or intelligence anymore?

The biggest problem right now is the vetting of what any given AI tool spits out vs. trusting it blindly; we've seen this recently with some high-profile Google AI gaffs... this has the potential to be quite dangerous.

It may not actually be SkyNet 2.0, but there are aspects that are VERY concerning...

Was listening to To Be With You yesterday and for shits and giggles whacked the lyrics in and selected "hard rock" and then "reggae"

Here's what it spat out.

Made me realise that at the very least this is gonna act as inspiration for bands to create alternate versions of songs that vastly deviate from what they created.
