auslander
Apologies if this topic was already covered somewhere. Was just listening to Vince Neil's "Exposed" and thought to myself, you know this is as good as nearly every Motley Crue album, and better than many. Any other solo album out there that you blokes think are as good as the artist's main band releases?
2023 Gold Donors Darkstone Posted December 31, 2021 2023 Gold Donors Report Share Posted December 31, 2021 "Exposed" is a great call.
2023 Gold Donors Darkstone Posted December 31, 2021 2023 Gold Donors Report Share Posted December 31, 2021 (edited) Don Dokken - Up From the Ashes. I'd also add Lou Gramm's first two solo albums. My Little Pony KarpetRydOFunk Posted December 31, 2021 My Little Pony Report Share Posted December 31, 2021 Well, Ronnie Atkins' solo seems an obvious answer.
Glen
Defo Ronnie - I like that as much as any Maids album. Judging this year I have to mention Tremonti. I probably now prefer his solo outings to Alter Bridge. 4 out of 5 of them have been brilliant 👏 Also obviously Steve Perry - Street Talk and Gregg Rolie - s/t from 1985 are right up there with Journey albums imo JSS - LITT is as good as anything he did previously in a band environment. Kane Roberts - Saints & Sinners album
martinsane
That Vince Neil record was a nice one for certain, if not for the Encino Man song at a minimum. This one came to mind almost immediately:

That Don Dokken album was great. And good call on Lou Gram though Foreigner had some massive albums, but I reckon his two albums were better than 50% of their albums.

CureTheSane
For me DLR solo stuff shits all over anything he did with VH At the time, Live To Win was far better than anything Kiss were doing. Sammy did some kilelr stuff post VH Jimmy Barnes solo is orbably considered as good as Cold Chisel by most

Eat em and Smile and Skyscraper are strong albums. Good call. I still find it funny that conversation he has with a guitar at the start of Yankee Rose. Only DLR could pull off something like that. lettard
The Don Dokken UFTA , Vince Neil Exposed & Kane Roberts S&S albums are excellent, would also agree about Seb Bach solo stuff being better than Skid Rows output since he left, although I'm not much of a fan of his solo stuff either if im honest. I'd also throw in James Christian Rude Awakening as being better than any HOL after Demons Down...albeit with exception of World Upside Down, also Toby Hitchcocks debut Mercurys Down...that is miles better than Pride Of Lions...his other stuff is meh at best.
Glen
should probably mention Ted Poley - all his solo albums are excellent and I think I revisit those far more often than D2 albums

2023 Gold Donors Metal T Posted January 2, 2022 2023 Gold Donors Report Share Posted January 2, 2022 UFTA is an excellent recording, but I wouldn't rank it over Dokken's best stuff: TOOTH & NAIL (1984) UNDER LOCK AND KEY (1985) BACK FOR THE ATTACK (1987)
