Well firstly it must be said that a lot of the best songs I heard this year were singles from 2020 releases.

Fact.

but pure based on releases this year this is my top 30 in no order -

Degreed - Summer of Love / Body of Work

Crazy Lixx - it's you / Weekend Lover / Wicked / Never Die

Work of Art - all 11 songs

Defiants - Fallin For You / Hollywood / Stay / Alive

Cats in Space - Thunder in the Night / Unicorn

91 Suite - Starting All Over / Perfect Rhyme / Nothing Left For us

King of Hearts - Don't Wait

Emarosa - Cautious

Krezip - How Would You Feel / Sweet High

What surprises me is the more I listen to Work of Art the more perfect is seems - miles the best release this year and all 11 tracks deserve to be there and would prob all be in my top 20 !

Also whilst I really liked Nitrate & First Signal no NEW tracks really stood out enough to crack a top 30. I say new cos the 3 or 4 we already knew on First Signal are of course killer tracks but we knew these so seems unfair to include what are essentially covers.

Agree with Glenn in that a couple standout singles in 2019 are from 2020 releases as H.e.a.t in particular released two great songs that would be in my top songs of 2019.

I always have a tough time listing my favorite songs and ranking them is even tougher.  I'd say my ten favorites in no particular order (from albums released in 2019) might be:

Pretty Maids - Will You Still Kiss Me/Firesoul Fly/Undress Your Madness

Degreed - Summer of Love

Crazy Lixx - Silent Thunder/It's You

Defiants - Hollywood In Headlights/Fallin' For You/Standing On The Edge

Roxy Blue - Collide

Degreed - Summer Of Love is for me miles ahead as the best track released last year.

Couple not yet mentioned the Lebrock singles "Bright Lights" "Takes All Night" and "Interstellar" are brilliant also.

I get your points on the singles, dudes, but for the sake of flawlessness, which is what we are striving for with this all-important thread, it's just easier if the tunes are songs from 2019 albums. Otherwise, when we do the vitally important best songs of 2020 thread, they'll all be the same songs as the 2019 one! ;)

Anyway, like I said, do as you wish. The worst you'll get is an uninvited lick on the bottom from Karpetface when I unleash him.

I know there's only a couple of replies in this thread, but I feel like there'd be as close to a consensus as there's ever been that 'Summer of love' is probably the coolest tune of 2019. Just a monster tune. And I'd bet 'Hollywood in Headlights' would be the fellow spotlight sharer for most too. Couple of true standout songs in 2019, far as I can tell.

Tried to keep it to one song from each album, otherwise there would probably be one more in there from each of Cats In Space and The New Roses

1.    The New Roses – Down By The River
2.    Cats In Space – Unicorn
3.    Tesla – Love Is A Fire
4.    Station – United
5.    Sammy Hagar & The Circle – Wide Open Space
6.    Mike Tramp – No Closure
7.    Donnie Vie – Back From The Blue
8.    Alchemy - Hero
9.    Kaato - Addicted
10.    Station – All You Need Is A Heartbeat

Think I heard they are working on more music , probably just a handful of singles though , seems to be the route a lot of bands are going these days

Their singer has left since this song was released though and I love his voice :(

pretty sure they released another song recently with their new vocalist but it didn’t really grab me

    • Releases July 26. $47.08 at ImportCDs: https://www.importcds.com/dynamite-china-years-complete-recordings-1988-1993/5013929929920 8CD complete collection of recordings released by China Records. Featuring what most consider to be the classic line-up of The Dogs D'Amour; Jo 'Dog' Almeida on guitar, Steve James on bass, the onomatopoeic Bam on drums, and of course fronted by songwriter and singer, the inimitable Tyla. Propelled by the albums' three singles 'The Kid from Kensington', 'I Don't Want You to Go' and 'How Come It Never Rains' edging their way up the charts, when The Dogs D'Amour's genre-defining 1988 "debut" 'In The Dynamite Jet Saloon' (CD2) was released in 1988, it must have looked like the band was an overnight sensation. But this couldn't have been further from the truth. The Dogs D'Amour originally formed in 1983, and had already recorded two previous "debut" albums. First was 1984's now highly collectable 'The State We're In', for Finnish label Kumibeat. Further recordings were made in 1985 and 1986 for Watanabe Records in Japan, and it's the latter where this collection kicks off. 'The (Un)Authorised Bootleg Album' (CD1) was the record originally intended for Japan. The second set in this collection is the aforementioned In 'The Dynamite Jet Saloon' (CD2), bursting with classics. A highly prolific band in their earliest days, 'Errol Flynn' (re-titled 'King Of The Thieves' in the States) (CD3) was released in 1989 as was the extended mini-album, 'A Graveyard Of Empty Bottles Vol. 1' (CD4), a collection of acoustic songs that reached the UK Top 20. 1990 saw the release of '... Straight?!!' (CD5) featuring the singles 'Victims of Success', 'Empty World' and 'Back On The Juice'. Unfortunately, and in true rock 'n' roll tradition, the band split up on stage in Los Angeles in 1991. Thankfully the band regrouped for the self-explanatory '... More Unchartered Heights Of Disgrace' (CD6) in 1993. This eight CD collection is completed with no less than two discs of rarities, live tracks and B-sides with 'Singles, B-Sides & Rarities' (CD7) and 'Even More Singles, B-Sides & Rarities' (CD8), making this the most complete and comprehensive collection of the band's recordings for China.   - Disc 1 - 1 Firework Girl 2 Chains 3 Gold 4 Pourin' Out My Heart 5 Wait Until I'm Dead 6 How Do You Fall in Love Again? 7 Kiss This Joint 8 Heroine 9 Tales of Destruction 10 Dynamite Jet Saloon 11 Swingin' the Bottle - Disc 2 - 1 Debauchery 2 I Don't Want You to Go 3 How Come It Never Rains 4 Last Bandit 5 Medicine Man 6 Gonna Get It Right 7 Everything I Want 8 Heartbreak 9 Billy Two Rivers 10 Wait Until I'm Dead 11 Sometimes 12 The Kid from Kensington 13 The State I'm in - Disc 3 - 1 Drunk Like Me 2 Goddess from the Gutter 3 Hurricane 4 Satellite Kid 5 Errol Flynn 6 Planetary Pied Piper 7 Princess Valium 8 Dogs Hair 9 Trail of Tears 10 Ballad of Jack 11 The Prettiest Girl in the World 12 The Girl Behind the Glass 13 Things Seem to Go Wrong 14 Oooh!
