Best long and short albums

The recent discussion about album length in the upcoming 2017 releases thread made me start this one. Album length has been discussed on here in the past quite a few times so I was wondering:

 

What are your favorite very short or very long albums?

 

Short meaning (no EPs) albums that barely crack the 30 min mark, maybe a running time of 30 - 35 minutes, and long albums meaning over 1 hour. If you can, try and avoid prog releases as those usually tend to be a little longer. If you can list long albums consisting of ''traditional'' hard rock that would be perfect

 

So, what are some of your favorite long or short albums??

 

Off the top of my head, short:

 

Michael Bolton - 1983 self titled (33:19 min)

Ratt - Dancing Undercover (34:55 min) - Out of The Cellar and Invasion aren't far off with 36 min each

 

Long:

 

Dokken - Back For The Attack (63 min)

Bonfire - Point Blank

 

The longest (in terms of number of songs) most consistent album i know.

 

The last Degreed was amazingly consistent over 14 songs as is Freedom Rock by HEAT.

I'd have to check album lengths on my compy, but I think Extreme cracked 60 minutes a couple times. Anberlin's "Devotion" also did with 18 tracks. I don't skip songs on any of those.

i love Bon Jovi's 'These Days', it's over 60 minutes and also GNR 'Use Your Illusion 2' at 75 minutes

 

for the short one, well I guess Harem Scarem debut, clocking only at 40 minutes might be the one,

but for album less than that, hm i think Ratt is a good call

My favourite short albums would include five of the first six Van Halen albums:

 

Van Halen (the longest of the lot - 35:34)

Van Halen II (31:36)

Women And Children First (33:13)

Fair Warning (31:11)

1984 (33:17)

 

As for longer albums:

 

Queensryche: Operation: Mindcrime (59:14)

Warrior Soul: Salutations From The Ghetto Nation (56:23)

Haha, jeez, I have no idea in the world which albums are short and long. I know Hit The Lights' 'Summer Bones' album was really short, and I liked that. And yeah, 'Point Blank' by Bonfire is long due to many songs, so I like that. Really wouldn't have a clue what 99.9% of albums clock in at, though.

The summer bones album is in my top 5 modern rock albums ever , love that one !

Van Halen II (31:36)

Women And Children First (33:13)

As for longer albums:

Van Halen debut is a killer too :)

Crikey! I've never actually paid much attention to the actual time length of an album - I guess if I'm really enjoying it might go on for ever without my realising it (but then I am into classical music too which is a bit renowned for long pieces). You've got me thinking though and I'm gonna flipping check my collection tonight and see whether my favourite albums have long play times or not!

If I had to describe them, I'd say this is what Gunshine would sound like if they went in a more southern rock direction.  Here are some of my favorite tracks... Crossroads   Whiskey & Weed   Holy Water   Mississippi Hippie   Heroes   Bonnie & Clyde   Rockin' Into the Night (38 Special cover)   "Crossroads" and "Heroes" are probably my two faves.  *I will give a word of warning:  if you decide to purchase any of their discs, they are barebones releases with just the CD in a cardboard slipcase. I enjoy the music enough that that's not an issue for me though.  @lettard @KarpetRydOFunk @tts42572 @AlphaMale @Dead Planet @Mr.AOR @tobi is an animal I think all of you gentlemen should give these guys a listen and see what you think.

      Saw these guys first time a couple of years ago, when they were 16-17 years old, they are absolutely awesome. They have been touring for a few years now, performing their own songs, yet haven't released anything, until now. I have tickets to see them this saturday, opening for Mercenary.       My Japan copy showed up today. I was critical of the Part I album as that one just did very little for me.  Basically, I just didn't think the songs were all that catchy and/or memorable.  I played that album a handful of times trying to get into it and gave up rather quickly which was disappointing as I loved Wired.  Maybe I just had too high of expectations or something.  I know many liked that album but for me at least, that Megalomanium I album would be ranked toward the bottom of their discography. Well, after hearing this new one, I'm feeling the opposite....Here I feel like they nailed it and I'm digging this one after the first listen.  I basically couldn't wait to start it over and listen again. The first 5 songs just come out guns a blazing with catchy, hook filled songs.  Yeah, we've heard 4 of those songs as singles but I almost purposely haven't listened to those songs much so they'd still sound fresh when the album dropped.  Then the one song we hadn't heard, All I Want, is just another upbeat, catchy tune. The 2nd half though is where things probably get more interesting.  Songs like Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye are the kinds of varied balladish/mid-tempo type songs I've been wanting Eclipse to mix things up with and there's 2 of those songs here, both very well done IMO.  Then there's a couple heavier tunes like Divide & Conquer and One In A Million that sound like stuff that could've been on Bleed & Scream.  And then a couple other melodic rockers with Until the War is Over and Pieces. I also feel like this has some of the better lyrics that Eclipse has had in awhile.  I think a lot of their material recently has been just been sort of lighter subject matter, 3 minute "simplistic" romps.  I felt Part I had a lot of that which kind of contributed to it being less interesting.  Here though, it seems like some of these songs get a bit deeper and can feel more emotion in songs like Still My Hero, Dive Into You and To Say Goodbye for example.   Anyways, where Part I is among my least favorite Eclipse albums, I'd say my early impression of Part II is that it'll be among my favorite Eclipse albums.
