Reissues (with bonus material)

Recommended Posts

I have never bought a reissue and never will.

Waste of money imo.

What about releases that were only available on tape back in the day etc? Or LP etc? I agree, I personally prefer the originals but there is some stuff that was never really available unless you went to a gig in the 80s eg. ESP, Apollo Ra.

What I like from labels such as Rock Candy are the essays included in the liner notes. I love all that behind the scenes information. I eat that shit up. You lot probably know most of as you've been with these bands from the beginning, but it's never discussed around here, so it's usually news to me.

Speaking of re-issues:

Amazingly it has been thirty years since former Helloween guitarist Kai Hansen formed GAMMA RAY... time flies and it was time for a "GAMMA RAY Best Of". The release comes as a standard 2CD package, this awesomely presented 2CD limited Deluxe Edition, and for the vinyl junkies, a 4 vinyl gatefold edition.
The band’s backlist are due for re-issue throughout this year too so this marks a nice start to the re-issue campaign.

Haven't followed this thread and only just had a glance over it, but have the Fate re-issues not been noted? 'A Matter of Attitude' and 'Scratch N' Sniff' were both re-issued with (I assume) 4 bonus tracks (two on each) from their unreleased album proposed for 1992. I think.

Still, by far, the unreleased recordings I'd most love to hear... well, pretty much even keel with Roxus' unreleased 2nd album.

I just can't do this. Amazing sound absolutely ruined by horrendous vocals. I know I'm the only one that thinks that, but I just can not handle his nasally whine.

GTR - s/t

Pressrelease:

Esoteric Recordings are proud to announce the official release of a 2 disc deluxe edition of GTR, the self-titled 1986 album by Steve Hackett and Steve Howe’s band GTR.

GTR was formed in 1985 following guitarist Steve Howe’s departure from ASIA. Teaming up with the equally legendary guitarist Steve Hackett, GTR was assembled with the addition of vocalist Max Bacon, bassist Phil Spalding and drummer Jonathan Mover.

The band’s sole album was produced by Geoff Downes and was issued in July 1986 and was a US Top 20 hit album and also was a UK Top 50 hit. Two singles drawn from the record (‘When the Heart Rules the Mind’ & ‘The Hunter’) were also hits in the USA. Although a short lived group, GTR also toured to promote the album (with the addition of Matt Clifford on keyboards) performing material from the album, as well as songs such as ‘Roundabout’ and ‘I Know What I Like (in Your Wardrobe)’, made famous by YES and GENESIS respectively. Although GTR ceased to exist as a band in 1987, the group’s sole album is an important moment in rock music of the 1980s.

This Esoteric Recordings edition has been newly re-mastered and is presented here with the addition of a bonus 14-track CD of GTR live in Los Angeles in July 1986. There are also three bonus tracks taken from promotional 12-inch singles of ‘When the Heart Rules the Mind’ & ‘The Hunter’, two of which appear on CD for the first time.

This expanded deluxe edition of "GTR” also includes a booklet that fully restores the original album artwork and features a new essay.

The Answer - Rise: 10th Anniversary Edition

12645001_10154454250121102_1960539579418

Almost 10 years to the day, 17th June 2016 sees the release of RISE – 10th Anniversary Edition on TAP Music. This release is available here on 2CD hardback digipak, 12” hardback book, 180g vinyl, marking this milestone in The Answer’s career. Fully re mastered, this celebratory issue of the band’s successful debut which broke the 100,000 sales barrier, comes bundled with all sorts of extras including the never before heard 2004 demos, rare acoustic versions and exclusive mixes of tracks that never made the original album.

Lead singer and front man Cormac Neeson said “This album will forever hold a special place in our hearts. As with most of the music we release, we approached the 10th Anniversary of Rise from a music fans perspective. We spent weeks sifting through our old demos and photos from that period in our lives and found some stuff I’d forgotten even existed! We also went back into the studio to freshen up a new version of Under The Sky and of course there’s a never before released vinyl format of this record which I’m personally looking forward to annoying the neighbours with when I get back home to Belfast!”

The release also includes an exclusive RISE poster, T-shirt and personally signed band autographed copies of all formats. The artwork has been revised by original designer Paul Chessell and developed to include lots of old photos, liner notes and period memories penned by each member of the band. The track listing includes the original album re-mastered, 10 demos from 2004, 3 exclusive mixes of tracks from 200, five rare acoustic versions plus a brand new mix of Under The Sky.

RISE gave the band, who hail from Northern Ireland, a hit not only in the UK but in other key international territories, notably Japan. The 2006 album set them on their way to not only performing shows with the likes of AC/DC, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Rolling Stones and Paul Rodgers but also headlining shows across the world. Classic Rock magazine named The Answer ‘Best New Band’ in 2005 and in the same year Jimmy Page, who has attended several concerts, also gave them his seal of approval.

Great album. But what the hell is this deal with reissuing recent albums only a year or two later with an added song?! Do we stop buying the new album now and wait two years for a slightly better version?
