Just thought I'd start a topic to see if there are any other Brett Walker fans around here. Whilst his music all has a fairly similar acoustic guitar sound to it, he has written some awesome songs over the years and I feel his music is very under rated. Early on in his career, Brett was a guitarist for Nick Gilder and Tane Cane. As a songwriter he helped out Jimi Jamison and wrote the Alias hit 'Waiting For Love'.

I'd be very interested in hearing if anyone knows of any other Brett Walker songs/demos.

I've got Nevertheless in mp3 form, and those first two tracks are possibily the most played. Absolutely amazing!

'Nevertheless' and 'Lift Off' are two very fine discs indeed.

I actually don't mind them either, but both have been on my trade list (in vain) for about 5 years now. 'Quicksand' is an absolutely outstanding song.

The only one I never got around to getting was Spirit Junky as I heard a lot of less than enthusiastic reviews....I should have learnt by now not to listen too much to opinion as folks like different strokes, what do people think of that release? I tend to trust people here more....except that Wotty!

Someone over at MR.com posted these Brett Walker video links. Thought I'd steal them so folks over here could see them as well. (Thanks Stefan)

i really like nevertheless. couldn´t quite get into the railbirds disc or lift off.

Yeah most people I've spoken to feel the same way, but to be honest I think 'Lift Off' is the better album. Both are very good though.

"Nevertheless" is utterly killer. Sonically it's awesome with big dynamics and lush harmonies. "Lecia" and "No Fire Without You" are perfect examples of Melodic Rock IMO. I thought "Lift Off" was a bit patchier and more varied, and haven't bothered since then...

'Hard To Find An Easy Way' and 'Lecia' are both fantastic songs, but the rest of his stuff doesn't really do a lot for me. Two absolute killer tunes though.

Edit: not sure why the hell I just posted in this thread ... thought I was looking at the 'New Content' page, but I was looking at the results of the search I just did for "Michael Thompson".

I believe I heard a new album is on the way. Hope it goes back to the old Nevertheless / Lift Off style and is nothing like Spirit Junky.

For those interested you can find a well made unofficial compilation of the Person 2 Person demos at the Hard Rock / AOR Heaven Blog. There is 17 tracks with artwork.

    • From Lions Pride Music: In the vibrant era of late ’80s and early ’90s, when Hard Rock ruled the charts and iconic bands were born in the lively streets of L.A., a lesser-known yet equally formidable force emerged from the heart of Germany – Wiesbaden to be precise. It was in this cultural backdrop that five talented musicians converged, forming a band that would redefine Melodic Hard Rock. Thus, SHEELA was born. Their creative hub was a basement rehearsal space in an old street house, which would later evolve into Markus Teske’s legendary BAZEMENT Studio. This studio would become the birthplace of several successful albums for bands like U.D.O., Vanden Plas, Dominci, The New Roses, and more. In 1995, SHEELA released their debut album, ”BURNED DOWN,” meticulously crafted and recorded at the BAZEMENT Studio. The album, showcasing a blend of powerful vocals, compelling guitar lines, and intricate arrangements, achieved instant success in Japan. Renowned magazines like BURRN and ROCK HARD recognized their potential, with the former awarding the album 87 points. ”BURNED DOWN” opens with the captivating ”LONG TIME,” a track featuring a memorable guitar line in the chorus. The album progresses through the anthemic ”READY” and the soulful ”HOLDIN’ ON,” leaving an indelible mark on the Hard Rock scene of the time. The success of the album paved the way for a tour and, later in 1995, personnel changes in the band. The success of the album paved the way for a tour and, later in 1995, personnel changes in the band. Their second album, ”CHANGES,” dropped in 1997, again making waves in Japan before conquering European audiences during a tour with Canadian superstars SAGA. In the subsequent years, SHEELA shared stages with legendary acts like FATES WARNING, won the KARLSBERG CHALLENGE, and made a mark in the USA by performing at the STURGIS RALLY alongside bands like STYX and REO SPEEDWAGON. The journey continued with their third album, ”STRAIGHT HEARTED ONES” (2001), featuring guest musician Michael Sadler of SAGA. SHEELA toured extensively, opening for heavyweights like NAZARETH, MANFRED MAN, POISON, and even sharing the stage with Germany’s most successful Rockband – THE SCORPIONS. However, like any great rock story, SHEELA encountered lineup changes, and in 2002, Markus Teske bid farewell, leaving Christian Moser as the sole remaining member of the original lineup. Despite the changes, SHEELA’s impact endured, with discussions and online buzz surrounding their music even in 2018. Described as ”One of Germany’s secrets,” the timeless classics ”LONG TIME” and ”BURNED DOWN” continue to resonate with fans, prompting a resurgence in interest. In 2023, SHEELA signed a landmark deal with Lions Pride Music, a renowned record label based in Denmark. This collaboration brought forth a reissue of their debut album ”Burned Down,” remixed, remastered, and adorned with a new artwork. This worldwide release on CD and Digital platforms reintroduced the timeless magic of SHEELA to a global audience, reaffirming their status as pioneers of Melodic Hard Rock. SHEELA’s journey, marked by musical evolution, international recognition, and an enduring legacy, is a testament to the band’s commitment to creating timeless Hard Rock that transcends eras. As we look back at the album that started it all, ”BURNED DOWN,” SHEELA’s legacy lives on, leaving an indelible mark on the history of German rock. Sheela is: Wolfgang Ilsy Terne – Lead Vocals & Guitars Christian Moser – Guitars & Backing Vocals Markus Teske – Keyboards & Backing Vocals Tony Spagone – Bass & Backing Vocals Jojo Nimtz – Drums & Backing Vocals Special Guests: Patricia Loesch – Backing Vocals Martin Hofmann – Backing Vocals Robert Henrich – Harp Stefan Djokic – Slide Guitar Recorded in 1995 @ Bazement Studios, Wiesbaden, Germany 1995. • Edvard Munch's favourite band.
    • Debut album 'Portraits' out May 31.   From Art Of Melody Music / Burning Minds Music Group:   The band was founded a decade ago under the name ”Alex Mari & The Lovers”, with the aim of writing original material. Meanwhile, in order to create good chemistry between the members, the group began playing together on several live shows, performing cover songs of legendary international artists just like Queen, Toto, Police and AC/DC.   After few line-up changes, the band was finalized with three members: Alex Mari  (Michele Luppi Band, Barock Project, Ophiura, plus guest appearances as studio backing vocalist with Rhapsody of Fire) on vocals, Gianluca Pisana on drums and backing vocals, and Sebastiano Barbirato on guitar and backing vocals. For their debut album, they established their new identity with the name, Night Pleasure Hotel.   The first studio chapter of this very promising trio offers a perfect slice of classic American AOR, reminiscent of Survivor (Bickler era), Foreigner, Prism and Toto. The album features contributions from talented special guest stars –  Michele Luppi (Whitesnake), Luca Zabbini (Barock Project, PFM), Paolo Caridi (Ellefson-Soto, Reb Beach, Geoff Tate, Krell), Gianluca Tagliavini (PFM), Roberto Galli (Michele Luppi’s Heaven, Danger Zone, Wheels Of Fire) and Iarin Munari (Red Canzian, Roberto Vecchioni, Paolo Vallesi).   Night Pleasure Hotel are sure to become one of the best newcomers of the current melodic rock scene, thanks to their infectious sound, mixed and mastered by Roberto Priori (Danger Zone, Wheels Of Fire, Raintimes, StreetLore).   The release of ”Portraits” is scheduled for May 31, 2024 via Art Of Melody Music / Burning Minds Music Group. The CD booklet features introductory liner notes written by Samuele Mannini (Melodicrock.it), while cover art and CD graphics have been developed by Aeglos Art (Wheels Of Fire, Platens, StreetLore, Raintimes, Room Experience, Nightblaze).    The first single of the album, ”Just This Once”, will be launched with an official video on March 28, 2024.   Tracklist:   01. Niko 02. Just This Once 03. We Say Goodbye 04. Walking Through The Horizon 05. You And I 06. Sweet Melodies Of Rain 07. Shivers 08. What I Feel 09. Julia  10. Suddenly 11. For You 12. Quella Sera (Bonus Track)   Night Pleasure Hotel is:   Alex Mari: Lead Vocals, Backing Vocals, Bass, Guitar, Keyboards Sebastiano Barbirato: Guitar, Bass, Backing vocals Gianluca Pisana: Drums, Piano, Backing Vocals
    • Queen Shrike = Queensryche 👍
    • and the new Gunship cd maybe not so much AOR but damn good stuff
    • I've enjoyed pretty much all of their output thus far..inc this
    • First I've heard of these guys.  A bit of a Danny Wilde vibe on vocals for me.  I like it.
    • New song 'Give The Night Away'.
    • I can't remember the ins and outs of it, but last year he put up a tweet about how anyone who does cover songs is unoriginal and have no talent, and he would rather listen to the original. I have no issue with the second part of his statement as that is all down to personal taste, but for him to call out bands as unoriginal and lacking talent when bands he listens to have done covers is quite laughable. Every time he posts shit like that I reply and he always ignores me as he knows he is chatting shit. He does it with wrestling as well. Called someone out for instulting a woman wrestler, and saying it's unacceptable to insult wrestlers like that. Pointed out he always calls Brock Lesnar a gorilla and he he should practice what he preaches .. ignored again As I say, always has to pretend he knows everything, but always gets caught out.
