I had to agree with Freddy on this one. My family just got cable tv around this time and I was glued to MTV.

Loverboy was a close second, but so were a lot of 'em... '81 was the summer between 8th grade and highschool when I discovered partying and chicks... and listened to a LOT of music. Journey won my vote, many mights spent with that at full volume with a bunch of us sitting in the dark at whoever's parents weren't home, paired off in various rooms, corners, what have you... good fuckin' times...

Seconds on this list for me (all VERY close): Loverboy, Rush, Foreigner, The Tubes, BOC...

As you can see, back then I wasn't quite hard rocker I am today... :anon: That didn't come until 83-84 or so at the pivotal moment when I traded my Rush tickets for Dio :banger:

I can't believe I'm the only one Picking OZZY !!!

:anon: Sorry brother, a couple more years and I woulda been all over it, I was more AOR than metal back then... :(

Pete

I Always was and still am more AOR than metal (you never guessed that then ). Voting in all these polls, especially the years 1977 -1984, I find EXTREMELY difficult, as by far, these are my favourite years no contest. ALL my fave albums come from this period (hence why I did the OAP polls to see what everyone else likes). I purposefully didn't list some of the obvious releases, to try and gauge who had heard of what. I am surprised that quite a few have never heard of half of the bands I listed though.

Loads of great, great albums since, but none that top any of these IMO????

:agree: '81 was a fine, fine year for music. I still listen to this stuff (I think I'm on my 3rd or 4th copies of a number of them... :anon: ).

Great poll by the way! :drink:

OH MY GOD!!...I'm the only one who voted for BOC "Fire of Unknown Origin" ...a classic release and BOC's best IMO.... :yikes:

Agreed, it was on my list of honorable mentions but Journey was a big deal for me back then... :)

Voted for the great second MSG offering; but let's be serious: a lot of great stuff is missing from the list. I'm talking about Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Accept, Black Sabbath, Kiss, Thin Lizzy, Rainbow, Raven, Riot,Krokus,Triumph. And the list goes on...

Journey - Escape would be my choice....from what was an excellent year for rock.

Survivor, Toto, Whitesnake, MSG, Ozzy and Y&T all produced classic albums as well.

But for me my No2 album from that year would be the AWESOME Triumph - Allied Forces. A hard rock gem.

Cheers
